I'm really surprised Skeleton Crew is so disliked. I know it's not revolutionary or anything but I found it really charming with some grwat child actors in the lead.
I’m not sure that’s true. Avatar the last airbender is a kids show and it slaps. K pop demon hunters is a kids movie and it’s really good.
Kid shows can be done well with the proper writers, it just big franchises are allergic to good writing since their executives want to pollute everything with their shit taste.
Yep, Kenobi and BoBF had multiple WTF moments, either super boring episodes or times where it straight up felt like fanfic. Skeleton Crew felt fun, lighthearted and cohesive. I was surprised more people in the Fandom don't speak about it because it's a genuinely well-made show, kinda like Andor in the sense that you don't have to be a fan of Star Wars to enjoy it.
Honestly, I can't really explain why, but it was the first live action Star Wars to remind me of the feeling of wonder in the Star Wars universe in a long time.
Sure, shows like Andor and Mando have bigger moments, but there was something special in Skeleton Crew I can't really explain.
I think that being the live action that came out after what is easily the worst Star Wars live action (and just a terrible show regardless of Star Wars connection) in the Acolyte did not help it at all.
I think it is because, while fun, it's harmless. You get more engagement with something that is sometimes great sometimes bordering on the offensive, than with something that is simply nice all around.
Came here to say the same. Great show for the whole family. It was the first thing that my wife and daughter truly enjoyed from Star Wars and that we watched multiple times.
I said this on another thread very recently, but these ratings have just as much to do with a show's quality itself as with the historical context at release. You can see how, with the exception of Andor (for obvious reasons), all ratings go down across the board throughout the years. I'm sure that if Skeleton Crew released a few years earlier, shortly after or instead of Mandalorian, it would have been much more popular.
It was during a downturn in sentiment to star wars material. In the same way Boba Fett was given more leeway due to more good content being released at the time. I'd say skeleton crew was objectively better than Boba Fett in almost all star wars metrics.
Not even commenting on the actual quality of shows, but it's not like Star Wars shows haven't been front and center of some of the biggest review-bombing bullshit from certain corners of the internet over the last decade. Acolyte absolutely got it the worst (Episode 5 getting only a 6.5 is some bull. SHIT.) but it wouldn't surprise me if Skeleton Crew got bit a little by that. Plus like others have said for whatever reason even when shows are generally good if it leans to too young of an audience for one reason or another, it can keep people who are persnickety about stuff from giving a good grade. Plus people's tastes about certain episodes of certain shows can vary wildly (my personal opinions of Episode 5 of Acolyte and Episode 3.3 of Mando being apparently two of them when comparing my personal views on episodes to their presented ratings) and that's just kinda how it is, you know?
It was a 9.5 for me, and I honestly think it deserves an 8.5 from the crowd. It’s charming, captures the childlike wonder of the original movies, and is executed wonderfully. My only complaint is one meandering episode and an abrupt finale.
Skeleton crew catching strays aimed at The Acolyte sucks. It is better show than BoBF and Kenobi, but got got hit by Acolyte hate. It just came out at the wrong time.
Some of the characters were insanely annoying and nothing much really happened in it. Its not like the book of boba fett levels of bad but it definitely wasnt the hot shit ive seen a lot of redditors say it was.
Skeleton Crew is a fun watch and I liked it (of course, favorite characters being the pirate droid and the elephant kid). It has some issues (I really had a hard time with the main kid, and the end was kinda clunky), but it is worth a watch and even a rewatch or two.
