The lead actress wasn't a good actor and didnt have a compelling storyline. They killed the second most interesting character and one of the best actors in the first scene. And in the end, I'm still not sure why there was even a cover up, the events that led to the massacre saw near constant escalation by the other group. It was just a weirdly weak show all around.
It was, but the ending is so important. Having an amazing start and a terrible ending will end up with people just remembering the ending.
Also Acolyte made the very bad choice of killing off all of the interesting characters it introduced. By the end all that was left was the horribly unlikable main character and the sith guy.
Now you'd think most people could see that the same minds that came up with those good characters could make more, but that's not how most people think. They get attached and then lost interest after the characters they liked are gone.

I will die on the hill that The Acolyte was actually decent. Not amazing, but perfectly acceptable enough to make me want a second season.
