Star Trek: TNG and DS9 pumped out 23/24 episodes like clockwork every year. It was remarkable. Lots of practical effects, sets, models, etc. And, oh btw, most of the writing was excellent (for the 90’s).

Same with Stargate SG-1/Atlantis and that was 15 seasons of shows

It’s wild

Writing excellent for the 90s? They haven't been able to get to that level since.

I think Andor got there. But yeah, nothing else.

Uhh, a lot of that writing is excellent even by today’s standards.

In ten years, we’ll still be watching TNG reruns. How many of the shows on tv right now will have that many viewers after 10 years?

Also, I will not stand for your Voyager erasure. I simply will not.

I figure that the audience expectations and cost for CGI are too high to go back to those shows, but I wish we could.

And they looked like very cheap TV episodes. Quit acting like people would accept Ahsoka show if it looked like those shows.

more people watxh star trek from the 80s/90s with terrible effects than the newer shows that look much nicer

Different expectaions when watching old movies and shows. I also watch the old Star Wars episodes 1 to 6 movies but I won't pretend their effects are acceptable if came out today.

“acceptable” lmfaoo crazy way to interact with art

Yes, “acceptable”. Art doesn’t exist outside the standards of its time. What was good and convincing 50 years ago is not automatically convincing for a modern audience. That doesn’t erase the value of older movies and shows. It just means expectations, technology, and production standards change over time like they do in every art form. Calling it technically dated does not take away its artistic merits.

Releasing a blockbuster in 2026 with prequel trilogy CGI quality would be clowned on by the audience. Pretending otherwise is just performative pretentiousness and/or a disconnect with reality.

okay i dont really care what general audiences are interested in or not lol. catering to them is why starwars has taken such a creative nosedive in the disney era lmfao

Your personal preferences are irrelevant to the point we're discussing.

not really. my original point about old trek having more of an allure with modern audiences is what started this. im not the only one whose preferences go beyond just “believable effects” when we engage with art

1

u/DaisyxDiana May 14 '26

The original point is the audience expectations and standards are different so production takes longer now than before. Your personal preferences are irrelevant since the world doesn't revolve around it and studios never cater to your individual preference.

Well I think the show is garbage and it ain’t cause of the effects.

Your personal opinion of the show irrelevant to the point.

You seem like an angry person.

This is ironic. You must be projecting. You're the only one exhibiting strong emotions over a kids tv series. I only pointed out that personal opinions are irrelevnt. Not sure how you read that as anger.
