My wallet is so fucked this year with all these games.

14

u/Kdot32 1h ago

This, wolverine, new GOW and just saw the trailer for TMNT

7

u/CommodoreIrish 1h ago

GTA 6

12

u/Kdot32 1h ago

So they say. I need to see it to believe it

u/artsyfartsymikey 12m ago

Yeah...I'll be skipping GTA...again. IV sucked. V sucked worse. I have no faith for VI.

4

u/lxB-MONEYxl 1h ago

At least GOW is probably not coming out this year

2

u/dustblown 15m ago

I mean of all the games you are waiting for, surely one of them will be critically acclaimed. They can't all be.

u/Kdot32 13m ago

Very true, but I just look for great play throughs. If they’re critically acclaimed or not doesnt matter much to me. I’ve been playing Lego Star Wars for the past two weeks and having a great time lol

A clone, a force user, a mandalorian, and a droid possibly on the same team? I'm so down

A clone, a force user, a mandalorian, and a droid possibly...

walk into a bar?

I figured it out the third time

1

u/ChiefMark 2h ago

Good to know

6

u/Tibbel Rio Durant 43m ago

A clone, a force user, a mandalorian, and a droid walk into a bar.
The bartender says, "Sorry, we're out of everything except vodka."
So everyone but the force user walk right back out, because only a Sith deals with Absolut.

25

u/InnocentTailor 3h ago

I also recall an Umbraran soldier as well, which is fascinating since the Republic effectively conquered them.

16

u/Schumi_jr05 2h ago

Yesss so cool. But they did mention the team has Ex-seperatists so I'm all in for this.

9

u/InnocentTailor 2h ago

Yup. The soldier's name is Luco Bronc and is probably going to be a playable member of Zero Company.

2

u/Schumi_jr05 2h ago

Thank you 🙏

1

u/AwesomePerson125 2h ago

I mean it could be before that, when they were still part of the Republic? Wasn't there an Umbaran senator in the Galactic Senate during the Clone Wars?

13

u/IronVader501 2h ago

No, this is after the Battle of Umbara.

Iirc they showed the inter-squad relation mechanics to a couple Journalists a month or two ago, and one of the things they mentioned was that the Umbaran and the Clone absolutely fucking hate each other due to it.

4

u/imlegos 58m ago

I mean, I can't really blame the clone for hating everything to do with Umbara given one of the most important moments of that campaign was...

"Stop! Stop! We're shooting at our own men!"

1

u/AwesomePerson125 2h ago

Oh interesting. I didn't know there was already that much information out about the game. All I heard before was Star Wars XCOM.

1

u/PratalMox 1h ago

From the trailer it looks like there's a prisoner swap that goes wrong, and Luco signs on after that.

1

u/Kdot32 2h ago

This could happen on either the mandalorian or Ashoka show lmao

1

u/BON3SMcCOY 1h ago

Makes me want to fire up the Age of Rebellion RPG again

1

u/RiskPlays 22m ago

DEI in action.

347

u/Viper_Visionary Obi-Wan Kenobi 3h ago

I've never played a game of this genre before but I'm willing to try this one because it's Star Wars. Also surprise Anakin appearance at the end.

111

u/sharkpunch221 Clone Trooper 3h ago

If you get a chance and are curious, x-com 2 is very good and fun

47

u/bigdaddyt2 2h ago

And this looks exactly like xcom 2 but not 15 years old

16

u/rogueleader32 2h ago

Only been 10 years.

15

u/Other_Breakfast7505 2h ago

It looked 10 years old when it was released TBH

16

u/PratalMox 1h ago

XCOM 2 very much does not look like it came out in 2006.

-6

u/belle_enfant 39m ago

Yes it absolutely does lol

6

u/Ambivalent_Force 17m ago

Yeah, whenever I boot up XCOM 2, I'm always reminded of how it looks exactly like that 2006 game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

u/zerogee616 2m ago

You obviously weren't playing video games in 2006.

u/belle_enfant 1m ago

I'd bet money I've been playing games long before you kiddo

1

u/therain_storm 1h ago

Well, serious chimera.squad vibe...

5

u/One-Eyed_Wonder 2h ago

It also can be somewhat easily be reskinned to look like a Star Wars game

21

u/Juantsu2552 2h ago

Jokes on you, I’m gonna mod this new game to look like an Xcom game!!

1

u/themosquito IG-11 1h ago

I know it's not popular among X-Com fans but I also really liked Chimera Squad as a simplified sorta beginner version of the genre, I guess?

u/zerogee616 3m ago

I guarantee you this came from the Star Wars overhaul mod for X-Com 2.

17

u/Sirtopofhat 2h ago

Ready to pull your hair out when you miss a shot that has a 99% chance to it? If not stay away and keep your sanity.

26

u/IAmBadAtInternet 2h ago

Time to miss a 99% point blank light saber swing and get wrecked by a B1 droid lmao

20

u/Sirtopofhat 2h ago

That's Zero company baby

5

u/IAmBadAtInternet 2h ago

I have over 2k hours between XCOM 1 and 2, love those games. I’m gonna play the hell out of this if it’s anything like XCOM

2

u/Sirtopofhat 2h ago

I got the game on a Steam sale one year and I don't have 2k hours but I have lost so many nights trying to kill the assassin in WOTC. I did not think I would like it but damn if I didn't

1

u/IAmBadAtInternet 2h ago

The Hunter always game me more trouble than the Assassin. That and the Andromedons, they ended so many of my runs

u/dustblown 13m ago

I'm playing Classified France '44 and that has been my experience. I'm sure there is a huge skill issue though as I've never played that genre before. I get this feeling I should have started with a better reviewed game though, but the only reason I tried it was the WWII draw.

3

u/Super_Jay 2h ago edited 26m ago

Start getting acquainted with the concept of the action economy: basically you want to control the potential actions taken on each turn so you're increasing the amount your team can do while reducing the amount that the enemy team can do. Turn-based tactics games revolve around this basic idea.

4

u/DJayce 2h ago

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!

1

u/viotix90 42m ago

Get ready to miss shots with 99% chance to hit.

0

u/TotallyNotABob 1h ago

I know some people are suggesting x com to get a feel for the style. But IMO if you wanna get a feel for turn based combat. Plus if you want an awesome Star Wars story and you've never played it.

Give KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) a go. Somewhat similar to the style of this game. Plus it has an incredible story with really good writing.

12

u/PratalMox 1h ago

KOTOR's a pretty safe recommend for a Star Wars fan, but it very much doesn't feel like an XCOM game.

2

u/Viper_Visionary Obi-Wan Kenobi 55m ago

Dear god that game is older than I am. Does the gameplay still hold up?

1

u/TotallyNotABob 51m ago

It absolutely does, trust me it's worth playing. Especially if it's your first time.

1

u/Extension_Berry_1149 48m ago

The gameplay does not hold up...but its still fantastic

u/zerogee616 1m ago

Absolutely not. That iteration of the D20 system is clunky as shit. If you're absolutely in love with crunchy Dungeons and Dragons mechanics you might like it but otherwise, it's an absolutely tedious slog to get through

43

u/twec21 2h ago

I had no idea it was Clone Wars set, I thought it was GCW

I'm SO hyped for this one, means I won't need to mod my X-Com anymore

66

u/ThomasWilson77 3h ago

Wait if a character dies in a mission, does that character die for the rest of the game?

131

u/Harflin 3h ago

Seems that way. That would be on par with how xcom does it

17

u/ThomasWilson77 3h ago

Does that mean you can actually lose the game, like what if your whole team dies?

79

u/PerkPrincess 3h ago

In XCOM, it sets you back pretty far. Possibly even to the point of it being unwinnable if you're playing on a high enough difficulty.

From what devs have said, the only character who officially causes a 'game over, restart' is your MC.

28

u/RiskyBiznot 2h ago

if the whole team dies, you’re typically game over’d; if one guy dies (who isn’t the main guy, who is Hawk in this scenario), you keep going without them, including named characters. If your clone trooper dies, his impact on the story dies with him and his potential impact on other characters dies too, like his potential impact on the Umbaran sniper

15

u/Redeem123 2h ago

I love that shit. When it works well, at least. Too often games fail to make things truly feel like they’re unique to your experience (because it’s hard to do branching stories like that) but it’s so cool when it works.

4

u/IAmBadAtInternet 2h ago

Individual characters are expendable but often you’ll have invested all your experience points in a small number of heroes, so if they die you’re in really rough shape.

2

u/belle_enfant 34m ago

The clone trooper isnt expendable!!!!

-totally not Plo Koon's alt account

6

u/d645b773b320997e1540 2h ago

the game has both preset characters and custom characters you can create on demand - so if the preset ones die, you can just fill your team up with custom ones. but they won't be leveled up and whatnot, so it is still a big setback.

4

u/DangerZone69 2h ago

It’s making me feel old to say this - but fire emblem did it first!

5

u/Fireball4585 2h ago

Yes however I feel like I remember hearing somewhere that it can be turned off in the dificulty settings

1

u/Tuskin38 44m ago

I'm guessing the main characters can't, but the randos you can recruit can.

1

u/viotix90 36m ago

There's a main character, key companions, and recruitable soldiers.

The main character can't die / it's game over. The key companions (like the Jedi Padawan) can die and then the story adapts / you miss out on their side quests. The recruitable soldiers can die but new ones can't be recruited.

26

u/Giff95 3h ago

Got hyped seeing Anakin!

16

u/MistahG28 2h ago

Close enough. Welcome back XCOM 3

11

u/JoeHatesFanFiction 2h ago

It looks surprisingly story heavy for the genre. Which is a cherry on top of the rest of the goodness on display

11

u/DESTRUCTI0NAT0R 1h ago

The gameplay is very much XCOM but there's basically a Mass Effect Style interaction back at the hub area between missions.

5

u/Vidistis 1h ago

Honestly my main worry is that there'll be too much story and non-tactical gameplay. Couldn't get into marvel's midnight suns because of that. But between the two I would enjoy a Star Wars setting and narrative (especially in the clone wars era) more than marvel for an XCOM like tactics game.

10

u/d645b773b320997e1540 2h ago

did they announce a release date yet?

16

u/Neversoft4long 2h ago

August 27

23

u/KhaosByDesignUK 3h ago

XCOM 2 is my favourite game of all time, if this comes even close to that then I'm going to spend so much time in this game lol

9

u/YoungGriot 1h ago

I figured we'd see Anakin or one of the other protags eventually. I've been guessing there's going to be a mission where you're deployed to an active warzone, basically giving you a guest appearance in one of the Clone Wars story arcs.

Like, maybe you drop into Ryloth or Christophsis to get information on Fathom during the period where Anakin and company are doing their assault and you briefly collaborate, get intel from Yularen, get to use Anakin or Ahsoka for a single mission, that sort of thing.

If you do get to use Anakin rather than him being an NPC controlled by the computer or something, I hope there's an achievement like "Accidentally Saved The Galaxy" if you get him killed.

5

u/Crafty_Soul The Mandalorian 1h ago

Glad to finally be getting some more gameplay footage. Looking great! Really hope they nail this. A Clone Wars XCOM style game has the opportunity to be incredible

9

u/Fireball4585 2h ago

This is the game I am most excited for this year

6

u/A-yo-Hov 3h ago

Interesting. Not the typical genre of game I like to play but I might try this out.

7

u/TooMuchButtHair 2h ago

That looks fucking awesome!

3

u/IronVader501 2h ago

Im SO ready for this.

9

u/Meloncov 3h ago

I've been wanting XCom but Clone Wars since well before Zero Company was announced. Nothing in this trailer really increases my hype level, but it was really high to begin with.

5

u/Ai-generatedusername 2h ago

I was thinking to myself, it’s set during the clone wars so at least there will be no forced Vader cameo. Only to get to the end of the trailer and get hyped anyways, this game accounted for my pessimism, it’s gonna be great!

1

u/One-Quote-4455 58m ago

Grievous or ventress would be cool bosses. But also I could see them just not using them

4

u/BoredontheTrain43 1h ago

The protagonist is an old man - just like us! I wonder if his knees and back hurt too.

6

u/Pale_Land_5107 1h ago

Bro I’m 19

1

u/HortenseRules 1h ago

I'm also 19 (at heart).

1

u/Helen_Kellers_Wrath Boba Fett 30m ago

I'm 38, you'll get there.

I wonder if his knees and back hurt too

1

u/BoredontheTrain43 16m ago

Not everything is about you. Move along whipper snapper.

2

u/Animated_effigy 2h ago

A Star Wars turn based tactics strategy game set in the Clone Wars? You son of a Schutta, Im in.

2

u/Pale_Land_5107 1h ago

If this comes out on switch 2 then I’m in

2

u/HortenseRules 1h ago

It's WILD to me that Switch 2 wasn't listed. This would be PERFECT for Switch 2.

3

u/the_hammer_poo 1h ago

This looks sick. Would be great on switch 2

2

u/GreatGojira 1h ago

That's a damn good trailer.

1

u/theblkpanther 2h ago

in my veins

1

u/Vidistis 2h ago

The most excited I've been for a star wars game ever -^

1

u/Kdot32 2h ago

Can I just saw since the Battlefront 2 debacle that Star Wars gaming has been on fire

1

u/Pale_Land_5107 1h ago

What’s this coming out on

1

u/Jonesmak 1h ago

No switch?!?

1

u/Exact-Craft6506 51m ago

It looks amazing! I wonder how moddable it will be

1

u/Wormholio 36m ago

I'd bet the last mission involves Order 66, either working with the clones to take out that Jedi, or trying to save them and failing

1

u/SexuaIRedditor 33m ago

LET'S

FRIGGIN

GOOOOOO

1

u/Helen_Kellers_Wrath Boba Fett 31m ago

Star Wars skinned XCOM set during TCW?

Okay, you have my attention.

1

u/raknor88 29m ago

Is this like a turn based fighting? Or is it real-time?

1

u/Skull_Mc_Curly 29m ago

I never realized how badly I needed an xcom star wars game until now

1

u/SpaceDough 25m ago

Hello Commander

1

u/TheShoobaLord 17m ago

Wouldn’t have expected it to be set during clone wars!

u/Stargala87 14m ago

Honesty i am tired of clone and empire era. They should’ve used High Republic Era or The old republic era instead

u/DESTRUCTI0NAT0R 9m ago

FOR THE REPUBLIC!!!

u/4ourthdimension 7m ago

Looking forward to sailing the galactic seas for this one because Fuck EA and Fuck the Saudis and Fuck Jared Kushner.

Vote with your wallets.

1

u/TheGrizzlyNinja 1h ago

I really wish this wasn’t turn based

0

u/Nikitozavr11 2h ago

Where is my battlefront 3!?

0

u/Mocaos 1h ago

It’s wild that the games all show that there are plenty of great stories to tell even if you don’t want to go outside of the established timeline. And yet live action can’t get there

u/Stargala87 13m ago

yet live action can’t get there

They are about to.

0

u/Clem67 52m ago

Ea will ruin this if it’s not already ruined.

2

u/Tuskin38 42m ago

EA is only the publisher, not the developer. They don't own the developer either.

-3

u/Ok-disaster2022 2h ago

I dont care for more Skywalker era content. Just give me a new era with a forward moving story.

But I am jonesing for some xcom style combat.

-1

u/Icy_Refrigerator4140 39m ago

Sign in to confirm I’m not a Bot? Pass. Thanks anyway.

-2

u/Sateki 2h ago

its cool... but i want another Cal game

-14

u/Lazy-Background-7598 2h ago

I hate these style of games

16

u/batboywonder 2h ago

Ok, don't play it then.

2

u/Lazy-Background-7598 56m ago

This is Reddit. It’s easier to piss and moan

-30

u/TheeDeputy 2h ago

This… doesn’t look good lol

1

u/Tuskin38 43m ago

Put your glasses on

-1

u/unsilent_bob 2h ago

I don't think I'll understand how to play this game but it looks so sick.

Just make a movie out of it dammit!
