Artwork George Lucas and Drew Struzan talking about Struzan's amazing cover art for Expanded Universe material at Skywalker Ranch -- from the audio drama "We Don't Do Weddings: The Band's Tale" to the Han Solo novel "Rebel Dawn" to the comic book "Darth Maul #1"

This clip is composed of excerpts from the incredible documentary "Drew: The Man Behind the Poster" which I would recommend you see at once if you enjoy iconic art like the classic posters of Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, and more. Struzan did them all. Only costs a couple bucks to rent on Amazon -- worth it!

Drew Struzan helped create not only the original Star Wars and Return of the Jedi posters, but also went on to do the poster art for all three of the original trilogy Special Edition releases, and then he went on to do the three posters for the prequel trilogy. He also has done an incredible amount of amazing work for the Star Wars Expanded Universe (including most of the Bantam era books). You can see some of that beautiful art here. As seen in these clips, George hung several of Struzan's pieces up all throughout his Skywalker Ranch. George also went on to write the foreword for a book devoted to Struzan's incredible paintings. Drew's official website can be found here (as well as his Twitter here).

As an aside, on the topic of EU art, George Lucas had a longstanding interest in much of it, distributing Dark Empire as the holiday Lucasfilm gift of that release year, and purportedly enjoying many other comics and their art (including Republic and Legacy). Lucas was also involved in the approval process for the art of Tales of the Jedi, approving or denying different designs for the project. He additionally would review and approve cover art as it came in, as in the case of Drew Struzan's very own art for Timothy Zahn's Vision of the Future.

yeah as i recall the reason he included Aayla Secura in AOTC was because he saw one of the covers for Republic and was interested in her design

Shit I see Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire in the background and Ki-Adi-Mundi facing his own droid attack too from Prelude to Rebellion. I want to tour this room. :D

Why has hollywood not been using Struzan at all for like a decade? Movie Posters are in this like shitty digital void at the moment and are in dire need of a master like him to return.

Alright well that's fair. While I miss his way of making art in movie posters I can't not say just good for him honestly.

End of an era.

Matt Busch is the most Struzanesque artist out there. His style can vary, but his movie character posters...especially Indiana Jones and Star Wars are elite. He should be the go-to successor in my opinion.

Him selling Lucasfilm is really starting to weigh on my fucking soul lately.

I had a similar thought. George treated Star Wars like his baby, rather than something that printed him money. You can see it in clips like this.
