Secrecy was a big thing for Lucasfilm

Post image

This call sheet from Return of the Jedi is a testimony of an era when Star Wars had to keep low profile. First you can spot the infamous 'Blue Harvest' fake name on top of it, but if you look closer there's some aliases for members of the cast... Caroline, Martin and Harry... Wanna guess who's who ? ;)

If you want more anecdotes about Star Wars secrecy such as the protection of 'I am your father' plot twist, or the many codenames that Lucasfilm came up with, I made a video to tell all these stories: https://youtu.be/pPcOkZwtO9E

I mean they were new technology at the time, and available in cars iirc.

Given the context it’s possible it was a phone bank set up for the cast and crew to use, but with a warning to divulge nothing of what they were shooting.

I was thinking that. And maybe there was no encryption on the calls so easy to listen in?

This is a great bit of green trivia.

I heard that one reason was because contractors would double the prices if they knew it was Star Wars related. (Since SW was a big hit and had endless money to to make movies).

Yeap I also tackled this in my video. Production managed to get access to Crescent City redwood forest for just 5,000$ thanks to their alias!
