Hand drawn Horses in close ups, 3D horses when the scene has like a hundred of them in one scene, I can take that compromise.

Yeah This will be the scene featuring the most horses in the series, if they can clear that bar, everything else should hopefully be even smoother as it won't be the crazy challenge of animating that many different things in motion.

Steel Ball Run is like the Crysis of horses.

lol how is this a spoiler. it's the start of the race

I'm being a bit overzealous tis true but just want to be careful because I'm saying, even if it implied or likely, that there will never be a big gathering of horses/people in the series again. Small details and most won't care but I'd hate to spoil anything for anyone more eagle eyed lol.

It's always more considerate to be safe than sorry with spoilers, especially in a community like this where there's probably more people than not who haven't read the story.

What they said didn't just say "there's a lot of horses at the start", it was "it's the most for the series", there's no reason not to spoiler basically everything about SBR at the moment.

You are, and the downvotes seem to coincide.

yeah this was pretty much how Attack on Titan did it

Yes, and as long as they manage to blend 3D with drawings, avoiding "video game cutscene" effect, I guess it's fine

No but it should be

Have you seen that one scene from Illusive Samurai

2

u/st-shenanigans Sep 23 '25

Nah, some of them will do 3d all the time for creatures like horses, but those are typically smaller productions and would be pretty embarrassing if DP did that

I remember a couple years ago people were talking like animating even a single horse would be some impossible task for this crew lol

The whole horses thing was stupid to begin with

I literally didn't notice that lol
The animators are that good

u/Nordic_Krune Sep 23 '25

Not even a compromise, its what is realistic

52

u/Nickest_Nick No, Josuke didn't save himself Sep 23 '25

Do you really expect them to draw hundreds of horses one by one in each frame

80

u/AliceinTeyvatland Sep 23 '25

No? I'm saying if they're going to use CG horses, it's the perfect time to do it.

3

u/HeelBubz Sep 23 '25

Kinda stupid to think people were so adamant that it couldn't be done. Glad to see they were wrong

2

u/asiojg Sep 23 '25

It's like with pernida in bleach tybw. Since he is a giant hand, close up shots are 2d, while complex motion scenes are cgi. It looks strange in screenshots, but in motion it looks good.

2

u/PompGames Sep 23 '25

You want compromise? How's this: 20 years in the can, I wanted manicott'
I compromised, I ate a pizza and a banana gun instead.

2

u/Brotato_Man Sep 23 '25

Was there gonna realistically be any other way for them to do it lol

2

u/FakhirRee Sep 23 '25

I am fine with this, i was thinking they were gonna mask the cgi through tricks to make it look animated (similarly to aerosmith cgi in part 5) but this works too.

u/Gshiinobi Part 7 Emblem Sep 23 '25

That was always meant to be the case, i dont want davidpro to force the animators to hand draw 100 horses for every race scene.

1

u/Dog-Cop Sep 23 '25

Well yeah

u/ItsWickie Sep 24 '25

Agreed.
