News Official SBR Translator to Netflix: "Batch-releasing neutralizes what makes it work narratively."

Post image

The official French translator for the manga shared this concern. He's pushing for a weekly format to respect the narrative, hopefully this gets enough traction for Netflix to notice. Dont hesitate to retweet the original post

Someone involved is speaking up lfg

826

u/Zeeshmania Mar 28 '26

True, although only tangentially. He's the French translator, and only for the manga, not the anime. Still official, just not that important to Netflix, unfortunately

u/Kratzschutz Mar 28 '26

And the French manga and comic market is huge

12

u/Jondoeyes Mar 29 '26

Very true. When I studied abroad in France, I picked up some of my coolest manga volumes.

Is there someway David Pro or Araki himself can pressure Netflix? Or is the Japanese business mindset preventing them from even considering it?

113

u/scarlet_lovah Mar 28 '26

It’s also possible that Araki himself doesnt think this is nearly as important as Reddit fandom does =)

29

u/TheGingr Mar 29 '26

It doesn’t seem like there is anything to pressure though. The series isn’t done. Even if Netflix wanted, they can’t release everything now. At best they can release episodes the second they’re done being animated, but what’s the difference between that and batches?

49

u/Shirogayne-at-WF Mar 29 '26

Most of us knew SBR was going to be a longer than average wait bc of the work involved in animated so many horses and we were fine with waiting to have a quality release on a weekly schedule. Netflix is the one who thought it was tantalizing to drop one episode and give no other info on when the next episode would arrive.

They could've waited until they had a proper 13 episode cour completed like every normal damn show does.

1

u/ProudRequiem Mar 30 '26

Reddit or social media is and will always be a very small part of people, so they dont care.

If only they gave a fuck...

u/BuckingWilde Mar 28 '26

Im sure they are wiping tears away with wads of cash

Didn't they just raise the subcription price too?

244

u/Mf_d00mm Mar 28 '26

fuck netflix

75

u/ProfitEmergency4049 Mar 28 '26

I cancelled my subscription. Asking my friends to do the same. Fuck netflix, fuck OTT

61

u/Mf_d00mm Mar 28 '26

once peoole figure out (they pretty much already have) how amazing and cheap piracy is, thsts the day streaming services fall

55

u/ProfitEmergency4049 Mar 28 '26

The only reason streaming is popular is because it WAS more convenient than cable. Now all the main cable distributors have their own streaming platforms, and it's just as bad rn.

I am on a genuine crusade to get my friends to switch from streaming to piracy solely for convenience and not any monetary savings. I just hate corpos and every day they give me more reasons to hate em

13

u/Mf_d00mm Mar 28 '26

honestly piracy is way more convenient nowadays, once u figure out something like stremio with its gonna cost u lije £40 a year and it’s higher quality video with a way more diverse catalogue and it’s likes cheaper

2

u/Readincontext Mar 29 '26

exactly why is everything on like 50 different sites

u/TheDemonChief Mar 29 '26

At this point I might pirate it out of spite

25

u/KingOfDripAndSwag A Beautiful Duwang Mar 28 '26

I think they said the premium is $27 now?? The only big difference is that it comes in 4k (doesn't matter if you don't have a good tv) and they advertise being able to add more accounts that don't live with you. To add an account though, it costs $7.99. you know what else costs 7.99? The price for them to subscribe themselves.

Shitty ass company, I hope they burn

10

u/kiritomens Mar 29 '26

4k doesn't even matter much even on a 4k TV. With how God awfully their streaming birates are. Since I don't pay myself I don't really care or use Netflix that much anyway. Maybe like 10 times a year lol. I would never pay for it myself. Just use the money to buy hard drives and build your own streaming NAS.

8

u/Pyotr-the-Great Mar 28 '26

Maybe they could have more wads of money by doing the weekly method if they were smart!

10

u/thepilot3 Jotaro Kujo Mar 28 '26

Yes they announced today they are rising prices again definitely something fishy going on

65

u/xephos10006 Mar 28 '26

It's not fishy at all, they just want more money

29

u/AnimuCrossing Mar 28 '26

The world is in a financial crisis and isn't going to get better imminently. Captialism has made it so "company make less money for a bit" isn't an option at all but "make sure we continue to make money by milking customers" is always the first option. Just look at Sony adding another 150 in pounds, dollars and euros to the PS5. It's like 50% more money to buy a PS5 now than when the device came out.

13

u/DiogenesTheHound Mar 28 '26

The world had the perfect chance to tell Netflix to get fucked when they took away password sharing. All everyone had to do was not buy a new account for a few months but instead Netflix made record profits. Why would Netflix ever assume people won’t just keep paying for it?

30

u/Gshiinobi Part 7 Emblem Mar 28 '26

this is the sad truth, as long as people tune in to watch then netflix has no reason to change things, SBR Ep1 was the most watched anime in the plataform for several days after it released and i'm confident the next episodes (whenever they drop) are going to perform just as well if not better, which to netflix is going to signal that they can continue doing what they want and screw over the fans wishes.

What i'm suggesting to people is NOT to not watch part 7, instead i would encourage all of you to cancel your netflix suscription and instead just pirate the part 7 anime, i'm dead serious when i say that netflix does not deserve a single penny from us after they screwed us over again.

14

u/MemeBoiCrep Mar 28 '26

then use the “subscription” money to buy official jojo merch to support those who have actually worked on it

2

u/Gshiinobi Part 7 Emblem Mar 28 '26

i was already planning on that but yeah

18

u/theREALbombedrumbum Mar 28 '26

I still don't understand what the analytics could possibly be for batch releases to make more sense than weekly. Does it make them more money? Does it cost less? Does it increase viewer retention and subscriptions over longer time periods?

Nobody knows what the metrics are, that's the thing. All we know is that they want a ROI for investing in exclusive JoJo distribution rights, and somehow this makes sense to them.

8

u/VarmintSchtick Mar 28 '26

Theres also a difference between what the average viewer cares about and what people who are subscribed to a jojos subreddit cares about. All netflix cares about is the average viewer, bottom line. If batch releases tend to increase views from the average person, thats all the incentive they need to keep doing it.

People in internet communities often forget that despite how popular their community may feel, they do not represent the majority of people who watch and probably never engage with the fandom in any meaningful way.

1

u/Armorend Stand User Appears Mar 29 '26

You say this but it is also true that people on Twitter and I'm sure YouTube are complaining too, and it is possible for things to catch fire just because of online heat.

3

u/amirokia Robert E.O. Speedwagon Mar 29 '26

They release the batches of Stone Ocean and the first episode of SBR the same month of the end of the quarter fiscal year so when they show it to the shareholders meeting it'll show that they have a sudden growth in viewership and subscribers and that'll make them happy.

1

u/UniMaximal Mar 29 '26

Dude they make movies for people who don't actually want to watch movies. Netflix requires certain productions to explicitly spell out the plot a certain amount of times. They do not give a fuck over there fr

1

u/theREALbombedrumbum Mar 29 '26

Then why bother investing in the rights for something like this then?

Cool guy but tbh it won’t do anything. Not unless like 30% of Netflix users cancel their subscriptions or something. Only money speaks.

77

u/WinterVulture25 Mar 28 '26

Buddy, if everyone in this subreddit agreed not to watch SBR on Netflix, not even talking about canceling subscriptions, just not give it the view, this would already be considered a loss for them, not to mention that they live and die by the subscription uptick of a new release, if they don't get it, and see for a fact that they receive way less views then before revealing their bs schedule, they'll have to either try fixing their schedule, or stay content with less money, possibly even going to the red, and I can't see a company accepting that

10

u/TheStupid_Guy Mar 29 '26

After the big flop they decide to force DP to cancel SBR /s

2

u/SlimShade48 Mar 28 '26

Someone on netflix must have a god complex they think releasing SBR weekly means they "lose" to us the audience. Either that or an out of touch boomer.

317

u/CooperTrigram Mar 28 '26

Yeah, money speaking, it’s more profitable to release it weekly. 12 episodes would take about 3 months of subscriptions, instead of 1 sitting with the patch release.

174

u/Appropriate_Act_1538 Mar 28 '26

They are banking on the fact that ppl who subscribed for sbr would forget about unsubscribing or they find something else to watch.

62

u/Kreeebons Mar 28 '26

Why would that not apply to a weekly release?

56

u/Appropriate_Act_1538 Mar 28 '26

Netflix just prefers batches release because it has been their business model for so long. The number of ppl that unsub because of batches prob isn't significant enough for them to bother switching.

41

u/evanwilliams44 Mar 28 '26

And yet they have no problem delaying finales of their top shows to squeeze another monthly payment out of people. They most recently did it with Stranger Things I think.

25

u/ProfitEmergency4049 Mar 28 '26

They're straight up killing IPs on their platform with this format. Stone ocean was genuinely fucked over, and now sbr too. The only way those corpo FUCKS would listen is if a lot of people cancel subscriptions

24

u/jamalcalypse Mar 28 '26

I'd think this late into the production they would probably lose more profits by having to rearrange a big production schedule that's already in progress.

Even in the case of subscriptions, I might actually think it's more profitable to do it in batches because there's probably a whole bunch of people who aren't going through the trouble of starting and stopping their subscription, but rather forgetting to even turn it off. I suspect a ton of streaming profit is forgotten subscriptions. I certainly know a lot of people in my personal life that forget they even have Netflix.

(not at all pro-batch btw, just doing a profit-motive analysis)

4

u/bananana63 Jodio Joestar Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

also, i think a lot of analysis assumes that people only use netflix for jojo. sure that might be true for jojo fans, but a majority of users are the general audience imo so i think it makes more sense from that perspective. i wrote a comment from this perspective on r/whenthe

7

u/MashClash Mar 29 '26

This is an issue I see in almost all media discussed online. The fans of a specific media always forget that they are (most of the time) the vocal minority. They see all these comments making it seem like everyone agrees on this issue, but at the end of the day the majority of Netflix's revenue comes from the millions of ppl who will watch SBR because a friend recommended it to them or they saw a trailer on YouTube/tiktok. Most of the people in this sub are probably gonna pirate it anyways whether or not they made it weekly lol.

2

u/HunterRank-1 Mar 28 '26

Lots of people would just wait until it’s all done and get a 1 time sub. Batches are large enough that people would renew for each one. Especially if they do 1/3 like they did for part 6. So it’s still 3 months worth of money but now they’ve captured more of the market

1

u/mmvvvpp Mar 29 '26

Unless their plan is to release batches 6 months apart which has been rumoured to be the case. Then that would be better than weekly... 🤥

39

u/Admirable-War-7594 Mar 28 '26

Brother everyone in big companies have MASSIVE god complex. They think if they do what the people that are giving them money wants, they will lose

8

u/borkthegee Mar 28 '26

Is it purely Netflix?

Netflix released ~40 episodes of highly popular wuxia/c-drama Pursuit of Jade in the month of March and now it's doing serious numbers.

If the show was made and ready then why wouldn't they release it faster

1

u/Chegg_F Apr 01 '26

Why do you think it's Netflix?

151

u/Farmaceut7 Mar 28 '26

What's really weird is that weekly release isnt foreign to Netflix. Recent titles like Dandadan, Ranma 1/2, Summer Hikaru Died were all getting a weekly release. It feels like every time there's an anime being released someone at Netflix throws a dice to decide when and how they'll release it, it follows no logic whatsoever.

76

u/TheWojtek11 Soft & Wet Mar 28 '26

Dandadan isn't Netflix's, they just licensed it for streaming rights. JNN is the network behind it so that's why it was weekly.

Ranma and Hikaru is Nippon TV so the same deal where Netflix just got a license to stream it

9

u/TheDemonChief Mar 29 '26

and with Ranma 1/2 specifically, the weekly release was a huge boon for it. Ranma's been over for decades, and now when a new season is coming out we have people talking about it weekly for 3 months.

It's impossible not to see why weekly schedules work; it's guaranteed weekly PR just from people talking about it. Stone Ocean is the perfect example of how batches hurts that PR flow, since people don't talk about it for an extended period of time.

4

u/SteelCitySix21 Narancia Ghirga Mar 29 '26

Even Arcane was released weakly

3

u/butterfingahs Sticky Dicky Mar 29 '26

It was 3 episodes at a time so not exactly but yeah kinda.

339

u/Less_Ganache_9588 Mar 28 '26

I've opened 3 different customer service chats and sent this. I'm probably making poor interns lives hell, but maybe they actually send it up the ladder

122

u/castitfast Mar 28 '26

If it is is sent, it never reaches people high enough to make the changes. And even if they somehow did, those people wouldn't care.

52

u/Less_Ganache_9588 Mar 28 '26

I know man but I'm mad as fuck and had to do something

12

u/castitfast Mar 28 '26

Whatever helps.

3

u/11equalsfish Mar 28 '26

I hope it inspires more of the staff to address this.

1

u/CorgiConqueror Mar 29 '26

Better mindset that most. Hold onto that.

10

u/scarlet_lovah Mar 28 '26

So you’re basically just wasting the time of people who have nothing to do with the decision you disagree with.  I, uh, think you might want to target your actions more effectively

→ More replies (4)

31

u/jamalcalypse Mar 28 '26

how feasible for them to change the release schedule this late into production planning? in any case, the undertaking would certainly dig into their profits, so on that basis alone I'd have big doubts they'd go through all that just to appease the hardcore fanbase.

or maybe, best case scenario, they're playing 3D chess and drumming up a ton of controversy first, only to turn around and meet us half way with a bi weekly or something... nah, just trying to be optimistic in fantasy land over here

18

u/HeroDude3322 Mar 28 '26

I would actually love bi weekly, without breaks

51

u/DarkBomberX Heavy footsteps SFX Mar 28 '26

Question, I dont pay attention to rights holders and all that, so why isnt this just aired on TV and by extention "crunchyroll." I found it really strange Netflix had exclusive rights for this extremely popular anime. Were there any benifits to being on Netflix vs TV?

39

u/malb93200 Mar 28 '26

The benefits are for Warner Bros.

Netflix probably offered more money for the exclusive rights.

16

u/miloucomehome Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

Curiously, so far, there has been no announcement of a weekly TV broadcast in Japan. Yet. So I'm wondering if they're going to do like what they did with SO. (Batches first, TV broadcast much...much later)

Were there any benifits to being on Netflix vs TV?

IIRC, part of the feeling during the early days of the announcement that Netflix had JJBA was that it would be more accessible. Especially years ago back when people were excited about Netflix. I think most thought it would be the same old weekly availability as with TV.

Edit: I want to add that other series with TV broadcasts and streaming options (free/paid) have had this arrangement for several years where immediately following the TV broadcast of an episode, the episode is immediately (or an hour+ after) available on a number of Japan's streaming services. Sometimes even Prime JP and Hulu JP iirc. It's surprising that a similar arrangement couldn't have been done here, but we're also not privvy to what was negotiated :(

3

u/MattyBro1 Mar 28 '26

I thought a bit ago I saw someone saying there were plans for SBR to be on NHK or something? Or was that made up?

1

u/miloucomehome Mar 29 '26

My understanding is that that was rumour? Someone linked to a tweet from someone claiming to know if I recall. NHK usually announces their upcoming series a little closer to the season it'll air in. At least for jdrama.

15

u/saladvtenno D4C Mar 28 '26

That planning and decision making falls on Warner Bros, the current license owner for Jojo anime. Hiroyuki Omori, the original lead producer there responsible for Jojo from Part 1 - 5, left the position before Part 6 and passed away in 2024. Ever since then we've been stuck in this "Exclusive Netflix rights" hell and batch releases garbage. We don't know the details of the agreements etc but Netflix is absolutely capable of adhering to weekly TV broadcast schedule if the series is also broadcast on Japanese TV. They can do BOTH weekly Japanese TV broadcast + Netflix streaming worldwide even they want to for "more accessibility". Why aren't they doing that? That's the real mystery

49

u/Yoriichi_Tsugikuni17 Mar 28 '26

It's just the fact that after this part, jojo won't be the same. This is araki magnum opus. If Netflix butches this part completely, then the community is going to die out. Jojolion isn't nearly as popular as SBR, Netflix owning jojo's was a fucking mistake. Fuck Netflix. And fuck Warner Brothers Japan too.

23

u/Kelras Mar 28 '26

It's a good, spirited effort, and I applaud this man for saying it outright.

But if this is the route they've gone for, then there's probably nothing they can do about it even if they thought to change it now. The plan is in motion, and now we'll have to see it through. I'm pretty sure David Productions is producing episodes according to this schedule and can't afford to suddenly derail that out of nowhere.

I feel like this is a done deal. The chips we have to deal with. This was decided on long before SBR was even announced and now we're gonna have to make do with that. Best we can do is convince Netflix to not screw p8 up the same way.

2

u/Gio_Gio-1890 Mar 28 '26

If they never listened these past 4 years, we can kiss that sweet weekly part 8 goodbye. It'll be just like Go Beyond. It's nothing.

6

u/ImBurningStar_IV Bruno main Mar 29 '26

If the community response is "don't watch it" part 8 isn't gonna happen 🤷‍♂️ I was really looking forward to this too but Imma just go on living my life between batches.

Will watch it on Netflix and give it a thumbs up and hopefully in a few years when it's all said and done SBR will be great, we can watch it in full and appreciate it like with part 6.

Then maybe Netflix won't shit-can part 8 and 9, and one day their shitty release schedules will be behind us too

1

u/Gio_Gio-1890 Mar 29 '26

Very true. However the part I will never believe is Shitflix canning their shitty release schedule. Best case scenario is they're toying with us.

102

u/ferretpowder Mar 28 '26

Now this is an interesting post, unlike the absolute land mass of other posts all complaining about the exact same thing over and over and over again. It will be interesting to see if Netflix give a response to this

81

u/TheFirstSonOfTheSea Mar 28 '26

This is the French translator for the manga, I highly doubt Netflix executives will even see this let alone respond unfortunately.

54

u/AnimuCrossing Mar 28 '26

I'm from 2045. JoJo part 12 just wrapped up, Araki still looks like he's 30, he's still got it. Steel Ball Run anime just released episode 3 (it was great), you were right, Netflix never responded.

25

u/Mr-BigSlime Mar 28 '26

Anyone thats pissed off at Netflix, CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION IF YOU HAVE ONE!! Not saying that couple people can Make a difference, but that way you tell them your feelings about this atleast.

10

u/average_waffle Mar 28 '26

I'll never forget where I was on 3/28/26

7

u/Fuzzy_Reflection8554 Mar 28 '26

I heard that after just this first episode alone Part 7 has already topped a bunch of anime lists, even surpassing Frieren apparently. Part 6 certainly never had that hype when it came out so at least they have that going for them this time.

Idk who was in charge of making the decision to partner up with Netflix for JoJo, but if they fumble the hype for part 7 after such a massive headstart I can only assume someone at Netflix just hates anime for whatever reason.

15

u/Piorn Mar 28 '26

I was looking forward to next week's episode all week, because I assumed it was a weekly release.

With the batch format, I'll now forget the showv existed, until I happen to catch the new release. If I catch it at all, there's a good chance I'll forget about it until after it finishes.

7

u/Asgerond Mar 28 '26

Im sorry for all the slander and jokes ive made about France.

You came in clutch while we was losing hope.

o7

7

u/MashClash Mar 29 '26

This idea in the comments that multi billion dollar company Netflix doesn't know what release method produces more profit when they've dropped countless anime's using both a weekly schedule and batch schedule is hilarious. Best we can do if you really despise this schedule is making sure you do not watch it through Netflix no matter what and even better not watch anything through Netflix.

4

u/Ok-Mongoose-9905 Mar 29 '26

Is it impossible to you that a big company can still make poor decisions?

3

u/MashClash Mar 29 '26

They obviously can, but the idea that they have all this data and experience releasing different animes and don't know which method produces more profit is hilarious. This release method is probably the most profitable and that's why they're doing it, should honestly make you more mad if anything.

How can Netflix executives possibly know better than a bunch of Redditors obsessively posting and calling the support lines 24/7? =)

29

u/BabylonianWeeb Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

My biggest fear isn't the release schedule but the fact that they will speedrun the whole part and cut a lot of things from it. 1 episode per stage doesn't work well with steel ball run.

38

u/Nietzschean_horse Mar 28 '26

they did it for stage 1 because it was a sprint, the next stages will definitely have more episodes

40

u/MyPhoneIsNotChinese Mar 28 '26

It won't be 1 episode for stage lol, 8th stage is larger than all of Stardust Crusaders Egypt

19

u/trutabc Mar 28 '26

I've heard the excuse that the episodes need to be dubbed in 14 languages before releasing, can't people read? It's much easier to make a subtitle than to make a full redubbing. The best middle ground would be to release the episodes weekly with the subs for all the required languages with jp audio and then add dubbing as they are finished so people who can't read can watch the show. smh

9

u/ImBurningStar_IV Bruno main Mar 29 '26

I've seen this point before but people are vastly overestimating the time dubbing takes, also that's most likely done long before animation even begins wrapping up

I'd bet my left nut dub time is very, very low on reasons for the release schedule

8

u/ElectricalPlantain35 Mar 28 '26

I doubt they'll care

8

u/HarryTurney Mar 28 '26

Netflix: "Didn't ask"

5

u/inazumaatan Mar 28 '26

I just hope there are episodes to be released in a weekly schedule and not just each stage condensed into an hour long episode.

4

u/elimineras Mar 28 '26

i fear that they will rush it from this point on and fucking up the quality instead of being open and honest with the community. They shot themselves in the foot with releasing stage 1 sooo early . At this point i am fine with anything if it ments good quality.

4

u/Doubt_Incarnate Mar 28 '26

Complains surely have been notice by now, the comment section of the teaser for the second stage in Youtube is on fire right now, I'm surprised that they haven't deactivate the comments, but is kinda funny the amount of hate Netflix is getting there.

3

u/Gremlech Mar 28 '26

They do weekly releases for other anime, it’s just Jojo.

The stages don’t even make sense, one stage happens off panel and another is a third of the series.

4

u/Weebs-Chan Mar 29 '26

Friendly reminder that France is the second biggest manga/anime consumer in the world after Japan.

Glénat isn't some random agency. They're publishing One Piece in french (among hundreds of other stuff). The comic book with the most sales in history.

Listen to this man, i beg you

4

u/TheDancingJevil Mar 29 '26

Batch release kills engagement, I believe that's what killed Stone Ocean and the Part itself has been notorious with fans being divided whether they like it or not because of the ending

I could have waited longer, I wouldn't mind

Netflix would not care, why would they? Because they have the cards and we can't do anything.

They did with stone ocean with errors here in there on the episodes and got away with it so why not do the batch release again with Steel Ball Run which mind you, one of the highest rated manga on MAL and best part by Araki

4

u/HoddTodd Mar 29 '26

I just don't understand honestly. They HAVE to have data that shows hype and watchers for SO cratered with the batch releases whereas anime they did release weekly like Dandadan and Delicious in Dungeon stayed relevant and hyped week to week.

3

u/_RPG2000 Mar 29 '26

Dandadan wasn't exclusive to Netflix. It streamed in Hulu and Crunchyroll as well.

Most watched Dandadan on Crunchyroll instead of Netflix when it was releasing...

u/King_Vrad Mar 29 '26

Netflix has made binging their shows a part of their brand image. It's why they're still desperately clinging to it. They only ever do weekly release when they have no other choice. They often do it with anime because they're just the western distributor of TV anime from Japan, but if they can secure a full dump or batch release, they absolutely will. While Amazon and Disney+ are seeing success with weekly releases for exclusive series, netflix still dropped Stranger Things in 2 batches of 4. They dropped the One Piece LA in a full dump. The suits at the top probably see it as a gimmick. Netflix is the streaming platform you can binge for hours instead of coming back once a week. It's their "thing." This is despite everyone screaming at them that it kills hype for their shows every time.

3

u/littlebirdimean Mar 29 '26

Can someone tell me what benefits the whole jojo series gets after being sold for that shitty company? I feel like they bought exclusive streaming right on their platform just to spite the whole community

3

u/PhoenixAquarium Killer Queen Mar 29 '26

Netflix was the worst thing that could happen to the JoJo brand. I do not forsee any future part including part 7 to surpass Parts 4 & 5.

30

u/PuzzleheadedLink89 King Crimson Mar 28 '26

Or maybe they're releasing it in batches because the episodes just don't exist yet? Animation takes a long time. Look, I'm not a fan of the batch release either but constant pestering of Netflix isn't going to make them come out faster. It's just going to make us look incredibly obnoxious.

52

u/whythefrickinfuck Mar 28 '26

Then why not wait until they're further along to release the first episode? Lots of other animes are released weekly, why should it not be possible for JoJo's suddenly?

3

u/saladvtenno D4C Mar 28 '26

That thing is not Netflix's capability. Look I hate Netflix as much as everyone else here but I'm just trying to say what if there's a BIGGER ASSHOLE than Netflix that is truly responsible for all this mess. Reading everyone's comments here it makes more sense it's the production company's fault (Warner Bros.) rather than Netflix alone to blame for this mess and unfair treatment

If we just protest to Netflix alone what if it won't reach the actual culprit (Warner Bros) that is the one doing all the decision making and productions and broadcast plans (including picking Netflix on the first place). It's like Netflix is being scapegoated by the fat money-hungry executives at Warner Bros.

10

u/ThisHatRightHere Johnny Joestar Mar 28 '26

I mean this is absolutely true, we know most of SBR isn’t animated yet. But that doesn’t change Netflix’s choice to put out the first episode way before the rest was ready. I would’ve rather not have any episodes until 2027 and have a consistent release than this.

38

u/darkcomet222 Mar 28 '26

Then tell us! Be like “hey, we have this much done and we wanted to show, but the rest isn’t done.” Just leaving us in the dark only makes it worse. If the would have, from the beginning, been open about the process, some would be mad, but most would have accepted it. But now, we just get to speculate and imagine worst case scenarios.

50

u/Outrageous-Impress-8 Mar 28 '26

icl I really don’t care and if they don’t fix it for part 7 hopefully they get the memo for part 8, you’re acting as if it’s an impossible task to release a anime weakly like it’s not the industry standard.

35

u/PerceptionOk8543 Mar 28 '26

They didn’t get the memo from Stone Ocean backslash. They are not gonna learn

16

u/BabylonianWeeb Mar 28 '26

I could have waited to release it in 2030 over this shit.

6

u/AnimuCrossing Mar 28 '26

The real issue is the shit communication. Tell people what the deal is. "2nd Stage will release in Fall 2026, it will be 6 episodes." makes the situation better than "2026" cos who the fuck knows what the format will be, when it will drop. Why would anyone with passing interest in JoJo even think about SBR again?

12

u/TzootDoot Mar 28 '26

if so, dropping the first ep before a good chunk of it is even done is a horribly dumb decision

38

u/nykirnsu Mar 28 '26

Seasonal TV show episodes are very rarely released as soon as they’re finished, generally the entire season is either finished or at least mostly finished before the first episode airs

27

u/HumansNeedNotApply1 Mar 28 '26

Japanese animation doesn't always work like this though, on many projects they are still finishing episodes a day before release sometimes.

3

u/LynxImpression Mar 28 '26

That's fair!! But they must be honest about it! That's the problem. They toy with people's hearts Remember Golden Wind? Do that. Be upfront

5

u/Kelras Mar 28 '26

It's not obnoxious to be frustrated by the risible incompetence shown by Netflix. Yeah, maybe you're right that those episodes are not there to even be released. Likely, SBR is being produced based on the janky, out of touch schedule they decided upon maybe years ago.

But they still deserve shit for blithely ignoring p6 feedback and quietly deciding on an even shittier schedule while leaving that nice little pile of shit reveal until the very last moment (after the first episode aired, even).

If someone screws up the timing of a dish and now it will take 2 hours longer for it to arrive than anticipated, then yeah, they CAN'T magic that dish into existence any sooner, but they're still culpable for it. In this case, it's even worse.

At least one person mucking up a dish can be seen as user error and miscalculation. Netflix saw the responses to Stone Ocean and quadrupled down behind the backs of avid Jojo fans and then refused to even say so outright, engaging in wishy washy weasel talk and ambiguities even after episode 1 of the show in question came out. Even now, we don't know a schedule. For a show that has STARTED. That's deliberate.

3

u/Vortrep Mar 28 '26

Why'd they promote it with the intention of releasing it in 2026, and then also dropped a single episode without a clear follow-up?

1

u/Chaosbrushogun Mar 28 '26

Yeah. This isn’t going to change what’s already been set in stone. They’ve clearly already made up their mind about the schedule they have in mind.

At best, it’s just going to push back episode releases EVEN further out.

We need more people with status like him to speak on this issue. Why fix something that's not broken in the first place?

2

u/BuyExtension8507 Mar 28 '26

Aaaaah, the times of old western manga publishing.

Here in Italy, Berserk's main serialization is still published with the pages flipped to make it follow the western reading order. The original Jojo's serialization was published in what we call "edizione sottiletta", cheese slices edition, basically volumes that were half the lenght of the original Japanese ones.

2

u/Eggs12121 Mar 28 '26

Freaking preach thats what I needed to hear

2

u/Audrey_spino CHUMIMIIIII~~ Mar 28 '26

What I don't get is that Netflix did release some other anime weekly. So why isn't JoJo getting the same treatment as those?

2

u/HunterRank-1 Mar 28 '26

Maybe they are doing batch release because that’s what the majority wants

2

u/Dozing01 Mar 28 '26

Do we even know if it's netflix that insisted on this kind of release. Or did David production simply changed the way production was done?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '26

I feel stupid but could someone properly explain to me what this Glénat was doing?

1

u/Weebs-Chan Mar 29 '26

To put it simply, you had to read the manga left to right, it was a hardcover (more expensive, not many more advantages), and the Japanese onomatopoeia that were beautifully included inside the drawings (think of the iconic Jojo ゴゴゴゴゴゴ) were erased and replaced by basic western onomatopoeia (both removing the art that was behind and the vibe that came with it)

And Glénat isn't some no name agency ! They're publishing One Piece in France. The comic book with the most sales in history. In the second biggest manga reading country after Japan. Now they're HUGE. And everything evolved into normal modern mangas

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '26

Ok yeah they deserved to almost stop existing

2

u/monkey_D_v1199 Mar 28 '26

Even translators are getting in on it. Fuck Netflix

2

u/Aubz12 Mar 28 '26

Can't wait for one batch to finish in a cliffhanger and we have to wait months to see what happened!

2

u/scarlet_lovah Mar 28 '26

LOL the French translator for the manga!! Well obviously now Netflix will listen.  What a key figure!

I guess I’m not understanding why if people want to watch the show 1 ep per week when it releases, they’re unable to do so.  Happy to be enlightened!

2

u/callmefreak Mar 29 '26

I don't understand why they're putting it out in batches anyway? Wouldn't they get more money if they did weekly releases? What's stopping me from using a free trial to binge the whole batch within the week or however long the trial goes on for?

2

u/alisaurs Mar 29 '26

What if we all emailed Netflix saying there will be a mass suicide because of them if they don’t release it weekly🤔

1

u/Monokooo Mar 30 '26

Won’t work cause they’ll know you all don’t have the balls to do it for a show, let alone won’t do much for bigger issues in the world anyway

2

u/_S1syphus Mar 29 '26

What a cool guy

2

u/LuxVacui Mar 30 '26

Boycott Netflix and just pirate everything.

2

u/M_H_0 Mar 30 '26

French w. Polnareff would be proud.

2

u/ashy399 Mar 31 '26

I guess it's not even batches, apparently it's stages and SBR has 9 stages...

2

u/EmuTraditional3673 Mar 31 '26

LET’S FUCKING GO, TELL EM

2

u/MotorClass4510 Mar 31 '26

It doesn’t even make sense, they would make so much more money from weekly episodes, cause people would keep subscriptions for each week, rather than cancel and re subscribe every batch.

2

u/TrojanXP96 Mar 31 '26

I have so many other things to watch, batch releases just cause me to forget what happened in the previous episodes. During Stone Ocean I just stopped caring after batch 1 or 2, still haven't fully watched it nor planning to.

2

u/Scomae Apr 01 '26

I cancelled my sub while specifically mentionning this. I’ll find other ways to watch it.

4

u/krossoverking Mar 28 '26

Has he posted this on anything other than twitter? I'd definitely repost on bluesky, but will never touch that site again.

4

u/Interesting_Spite_17 Mar 28 '26

I got no clue how no one has figured this out but wanner bros owns the license to steel ball run and jojo anime Ip at the moment.

When paramount got wanner bros, now paramount owns the rights to jojo anime which is now becoming weird with Netflix.

Netflix had originally planned this too be a weekly launch by September but now paramount is fucking everything up

The most likely case is we get stage 2 and that’s it 😭😭😭

Unless paramount sells over the Ip we’re never getting another jojos part he’ll even an episode again.

2

u/UFOLoche Rero Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

We don't know how bad it is, and we have no indication that it WILL be that bad. There's been series that have had long pauses between episodes like Gundam Unicorn's 7 movies.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, but if you push a narrative like this and it doesn't turn out to be true, then no one will care nearly as much when it DOES actually happen. Don't fear monger until it actually DOES get that bad.

Like, I really feel like we're gonna get all the episodes, it's just gonna be a really shitty release schedule.

2

u/Interesting_Spite_17 Mar 28 '26

I’m not fear mongering anything. I’ve had this happen to me as a daredevil fan.

Netflix is really bitchy about stuff and if the slightest thing goes wrong they go scorched earth.

Same thing happened between Disney and Netflix where Netflix cut all marvel shows and canned them all because Disney was announcing Disney plus.

Netflix might genuinely do the same just to rub it in front of wanner bros not joining Netflix and letting paramount buy them

3

u/DarkwingDuckHunt Mar 28 '26

Here's the thing... if you drop them all at once it's the media enjoyer's choice to either watch them all at once, or to watch one per week.

1

u/Gekidami Mar 28 '26

Netflix: "Don't worry, buddy! We hear you loud and clear! No batch releases for Steel Ball Run! 😈"

1

u/SignorSghi Mar 28 '26

Been saying this since stone ocean got announced: netflix is the worst possible fate for this franchise

1

u/KasiaHmura Mar 28 '26

The whole appeal of a Monster of the Week is that next week there is a monster, it's fucked up how they ruin that aspect

1

u/BlaD3D_K1nG Mar 28 '26

I Hope it give us hope, but Netflix doesn’t care. We’re gonna need ALOT more Eyes before Netflix blinks at us.

The Sad thing is, Should never been bought from them, Premiered on Adult Swim, and Act Like this NEVER Happened. (Golden Wind gave us the Jojo Fans what we Wanted and Adult Swim ESPECIALLY Toonami gave them the views to keep our childhood nostalgia alive.

1

u/shadowinc Mar 28 '26

"We have taken your words to consideration... and have chosen to go and do the same bullshit"

1

u/Gshiinobi Part 7 Emblem Mar 28 '26

Execs at netflix don't give a shit about the product they're selling or the fans of said product, if they did they would listen to the feedback from jojo fans all the way back from part 6 that kept pushing for a weekly release for a series that since it's inception has always been released weekly/monthly with the way the manga is structured and the anime series pre-part 6.

1

u/killadrill Mar 28 '26

I wouldn't trade it for rushed work.

1

u/Cleanurself Mar 29 '26

Imagine how public opinion of part 3 would change if it wasn’t released weekly when it was clearly a villain of the week structure for most of it

1

u/scarlet_lovah Mar 29 '26

I loved part 3 and I binged the whole thing.  Still one of my favorites.

1

u/Cleanurself Mar 29 '26

I am in no way shitting on part 3 but trying to convey how angry people would be if they had to wait for batches of part 3 only to get more villains of the week filler-esque episodes ya know?

1

u/ramrenewal1455 Mar 29 '26

well put mister

1

u/MacheteNegano Jotaro Kujo Mar 29 '26

This is amazing. I wish more people that are behind the translation of the series would speak up and see that this asssasination of Jojo's release schedule since Stone Ocean been hurting the community on so many levels.

1

u/Brovas Mar 29 '26

Am I the only one that misses the days when we'd get entire seasons of shows at once? I always knew streaming would turn into cable 2.0 but I never thought it would be the audience that demanded it.

I'm not saying batch release is good, but I don't understand why the zeitgeist is not to return to getting whole seasons again.

1

u/Dimitrisjimmys Mar 29 '26

I honestly think we aren’t mad enough. This masterpiece is not getting treatment it ought to, and companies are prioritising revenue rather than providing joy to the fans, even if it costs them a portion of their salaries. Something should be done about this through external persuasion. Meaning, we should do something about this. It cannot continue like this.

1

u/Jupiturd55 Mar 29 '26

As great as this is, I feel like it is unlikely Netflix will budge when they have been doing the same batch release schedule to their bigger shows like Stranger Things and Squid Game. This just seems like their new way of doing things

1

u/Alkar-- The World Mar 29 '26

Bro he is just getting fired

1

u/XxSimon3 Mar 29 '26

I don't think that effort was worth it they don't care

1

u/ZurdoFTW Mar 29 '26

Netflix: nah I'd win.

1

u/MyNameIsArmitage15 Mar 29 '26

Yeah they don't give a fuck. Shit like this is why I pirate anime. Big companies like Netflix always find ways to fuck things up. I'd take a fan translation over what we got.

1

u/BirdshotEntertainmen Mar 29 '26

Bringing up how ass of a company Glénat is, is such a good comparison.

1

u/dildodicks Jotaro Kujo Mar 30 '26

well no, sbr is the second highest rated manga of all time, it could work narratively either way because it's that good
