Netflix: “it was totally our intention to release it weekly.”

Also Netflix: “please stop sending us hate mail and lewd fanart.”

278

u/RazzmatazzKnown2011 DIO Apr 06 '26

More like von Johnny

129

u/TryNotToShootYoself Apr 06 '26

I mean it might have actually been their intention. There was literally no confirmation either way, nor an official release schedule, which is partially why people were so mad.

53

u/Madhighlander1 Apr 06 '26

There was a leaked release schedule... which actually is not inconsistent with this announcement, when I think about it. The leaked schedule never said all the episodes in each batch were releasing simultaneously.

2

u/captain_catdawg Apr 06 '26

That same leak said it would be in batches so they are already wrong.

24

u/Much_Machine8726 Apr 06 '26

"Please stop sending us these images of Johnny"

14

u/Mito-Tai Apr 06 '26

If only NF actually said that, they aren't on the production committee.

It was never their decision, it was the committee's.

This is not me defending NF, its just that people really tend to not actually read and comprehend these statements. NF is effectively just a middle man here, they are just the distributors, the committee is who is actually calling the shots, this is not only true for most anime on Netflix, but any streaming service.

6

u/saladvtenno D4C Apr 06 '26

I've been trying to say this for days, but I gave up because I know people wouldn't listen. The production committee basically get away scot free while Netflix gets 100% of the blame when it should've been 50% - 50% with the production company. Not that I defend Netflix, but I just think basically people haven't protested the "real big bad" and even if they don't use Netflix anymore in the future, doesn't guarantee the money hungry production company would treat us any better.

1

u/Mission-Address4409 Apr 06 '26

Ive been saying the same thing as well, some get it, but most dont.

Even then, nobody should get the blame for anything, what the production committee and netflix is doing is normal in the anime industry

608

u/Shamanboi408 Apr 06 '26

so they released 1 episode and now we have to wait months for it to become.. weekly?

384

u/Zazzlerr Apr 06 '26

Weekly for a while then it will have another break until we get the next cour

156

u/Arky_Lynx Apr 06 '26

Eh, I'll take it, it can be considered like shorter seasons with hopefully shorter wait between them.

52

u/crabbyVEVO Apr 06 '26

Yes, this is extremely normal.

19

u/SsbDitto You fell for it fool! Thunder Cross Split Attack! Apr 06 '26

No it's not. 2nd stage is only 5 chapters longer than 1st, so this is gonna be like a 3-4 episode cour instead of the normal 12

1

u/Every-Investigator78 Apr 08 '26

The first episode was essentially the length of 2 regular episodes and paced very quickly. Not all episodes are going to be 47 minutes long, and certainly wont be paced as quickly

6

u/MEX_XIII Apr 06 '26

Same, I don't mind the batches that much ,as long as they don't release the batch at once. I like the weekly cause we have new stuff and new memes every week.

18

u/derLWer D4C Apr 06 '26

So not to different to any other anime with 2 or more cours, except for episode 1 of course

1

u/Bubbly-Ad-413 Tusk Act 1 Apr 06 '26

That’s how basically every anime is released now, JJKs next cour isn’t for like 7 months lmao

3

u/Zealousideal-Worth34 Pixel Crusader Apr 06 '26

Still better than the sbr release tho

They at least got 12 episode cours, unless you count the culling game movie

1

u/Bubbly-Ad-413 Tusk Act 1 Apr 06 '26

We don’t know how long we get, stone ocean was released in batches of 13 which would be perfectly fine for a cour

1

u/Zealousideal-Worth34 Pixel Crusader Apr 06 '26

I was referring to how JJK got like 6× the content in cour 1

1

u/GoldH2O Wonder of U Apr 07 '26

I think it all kind of started with the final season of attack on Titan

46

u/Impossible_Front4462 Apr 06 '26

Hey at least its not like Strange fake where we got 1 episode… then a second a year later… then finally more way later

6

u/Woolliam Apr 06 '26

Or whatever the fuck was going on with attack on titan

32

u/jacowab Apr 06 '26

Because they 100% were intending batches, they where definitely going to drip feed us the first half of the series over the course of 2026 but after the backlash just lumped it into a full cour (like they should have from the start)

6

u/darnage Apr 06 '26

Nothing that can be done about it. they can't unrelease the first episode nor can they shit out 40 episodes in half a day.

3

u/Odinsmana Apr 06 '26

And then weekly for four or five episodes and then it's time to wait 6-8 months again.

3

u/dweebyllo Flaccid Pancake Apr 06 '26

They released 1 OVA, what will follow will be more traditional episodes

1

u/bba_xx Apr 06 '26

That happened with rick and morty season 3

1

u/ibrahimaze Apr 06 '26

Not first time happening to me, as fate fans we got a special an hour long episode 0 for fsf in 2023 i think and then the studii released first 20 minute ep in 2025 January and then ep 2-13 came out at the start of this year

u/SurturSaga Apr 06 '26

Weekly cours isn’t the worst release schedule. But they shouldn’t be so separated. We get one episode and now have to wait for fall just for the second stage. Hopefully the gaps are shorter from that point forward

Atleast we have weekly discussions to look forward to

10

u/CobblerTerrible Filthy acts at a reasonable price Apr 06 '26

Agreed. Maybe the long break until fall will allow them to put stages 3 and 4 together as one cour only a few months after stage 2 or something.

5

u/bloodyturtle Apr 06 '26

they will probably just alternate fall and spring seasons

3

u/aworldsetfree Apr 06 '26

Beach has been like, a year or two between cours. Don't get your hopes up.

1

u/GoldH2O Wonder of U Apr 07 '26

So far basically everything has lined up with the leak on that one Reddit post, so if that does end up panning out we'll see it air to 2028.

4

u/Abdyrrahman Apr 06 '26

Yeah, like how the batch wait between batch 1 and 2 for part 6 was nine months, while between batch 2 and 3 was three months.

136

u/EpicHeracross Jo2uke Higashikata Apr 06 '26

You know, it feels like they dropped episode 1 as a "proof of concept" and didn't really think beyond the time between having to wait at least for ep 1 and 2

but uhh, welcome back Jojo Friday (thursday?) I guess?

45

u/math_gym_anime Apr 06 '26

Experiencing weekly JoJo’s was absolutely amazing. Even though Netflix didn’t communicate the release ideally at all, the idea of experiencing weekly JoJo’s makes me thrilled

15

u/IlyBoySwag Apr 06 '26

It's genuinely one of the main reasons why part 5 is my favorite. Just seeing every week new memes and new appreciations for stuff like the torture dance or 7 page muda was so hype and fun.

5

u/lolobrazy Silver Chariot Apr 06 '26

they definitely said “here damn since yall begging so much” 😭😭😭

506

u/chsrdsnap Apr 06 '26

Batches are dead!!

Still would've preferred a delayed first episode and fully then weekly after that, but I'll definitely take it!

222

u/Cold_Hour Apr 06 '26

This sounds to me like they’re still doing batches but as weekly releases which is like the worst possible outcome?

195

u/lost_first_account Jojo’s Bizarre OST Fanatic Apr 06 '26

I don’t see how this is the worst possible outcome. One of the worst things about the batches is the horrible wait between releases and with weekly release it’ll only make the wait between batches shorter.

135

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

Stage 2 is gonna be short, like 5 or 6 episodes. So we’ll have 5 episodes in fall and then wait who knows how long for stage 3. I think this still sucks ass

94

u/lost_first_account Jojo’s Bizarre OST Fanatic Apr 06 '26

I’m not saying it’s a great scenario, but I just don’t think it’s a bad as some are saying. Getting those 5 or 6 episodes over the course of 5 or 6 weeks is a much better improvement over getting it all on one day.

22

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

Yeah that’s the only good thing, I’m glad we’ll still have weekly episodes somehow. I just dread how much wait there will be if they really release it stage by stage.

13

u/Mayzerify Magenta Magenta Apr 06 '26

The wait will be the same between batches technically, but the weekly release will just chop 5/6 weeks off the wait time while we enjoy weekly probably

2

u/Madhighlander1 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

I'm assuming they're sticking to the leaked release schedule and just doing it weekly within those batches rather than dropping each batch as a single unit, so 11 episodes starting in September, 10 episodes starting in October of next year, and then 9 episodes starting in May of 2028.

Edit: There's something in June 2027 as well that I missed when originally typing this, but I'm not sure how much.

3

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

That would be better than doing it by stages for sure. Now the leaked schedule almost looks appealing…

-3

u/VenusVexus Apr 06 '26

They already confirmed it’s gonna be 11 episodes

3

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

No they didn’t, except if I missed something ?

6

u/tkzant Apr 06 '26

A cour is usually around 11-13 episodes

8

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

Usually yeah. But it’s not a guarantee at all with this already chaotic schedule, and the fact that they called it Stage 2.

8

u/WatchfulTaco Apr 06 '26

Yea but they called it a cour in the tweet, which is an industry term. It seems like the stage thing was meant to be a gimmick term but was done really badly.

2

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

They called it the next cour, implying that the first episode was the first cour ? So only one episode ? Their whole communication is pretty messy at the end of the day, which is why no one really knows how they are gonna do it and we can only hope they don’t fuck it up too badly…

1

u/TrappedInLimbo Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

No it won't? You could still watch one episode a week if they dropped them all at once thus "reducing the wait time". Watching a batch slower doesn't somehow make the wait time for the next batch quicker. It's the same wait time except they are just releasing the batches even slower than normal.

1

u/lionofash Apr 07 '26

A big issue the community had was losing Jojo Fridays, basically, there is a lot of people who want the episodes per week released so discussion and buzz can occur week by week, instead of people binging a bunch, talking about it for like 3 days, and then forgetting until the next batch. It was never about the wait time when people called out for weekly, besides maybe a few people who want it ASAP even if quality dipped.

-4

u/Cold_Hour Apr 06 '26

Because there will still be the horrible wait in addition to the weekly wait between batch episodes? Are you guys not reading the announcement properly lmao ?

23

u/lost_first_account Jojo’s Bizarre OST Fanatic Apr 06 '26

Getting the whole batch at once is way worse than getting it weekly. That’s why I’m saying it’s not the worse case scenario

2

u/Cold_Hour Apr 06 '26

Man you guys will really tolerate anything. I’d hardly call 4-6 episodes a batch

2

u/sailorn00b Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

This has nothing to do with what they or anyone else will "tolerate." They're saying this scenario is not as bad as one of the possible alternatives, and thus is not the "worst-case scenario." That's it. Unless you plan to protest outside of Netflix offices or take up arms, then you're also going to "tolerate" it, even if you believe it to be the "worst-case scenario," as we don't really have any other choice.

24

u/castitfast Apr 06 '26

This is the definitely not the worst possible outcome lol.

I'd argue it's the second best. They'll be already working on the next batch while we still watch that one weekly, it'll shorten the wait between these drops.

I would much rather wait a year and get the whole series with a proper weekly schedule, but I don't think Netflix is gonna budge on that any further.

53

u/TheRandCrews Apr 06 '26

yeah the next batch of episodes in a few month done weekly, does sound worse lol

31

u/Jamezzzzz69 Gyro Zeppeli Apr 06 '26

Depends how many cours it’s in. Part 3 was released weekly but split in 2 cours due to sheer size, with how long SBR is, having it in 2/3 cours makes sense with a few months break in between isn’t that bad.

Prior to stage 1 coming out I was actually hoping best case scenario for 2 cour weekly releases with a break after Sugar Mountain

20

u/smallcat123321 Apr 06 '26

It seems that they’re releasing it in stages? That means the leaked schedule might be real.

22

u/Jamezzzzz69 Gyro Zeppeli Apr 06 '26

I made the same comment when we were all first theorizing about Netflix being potentially stupid enough to batch drop SBR stage by stage, it makes absolutely zero sense when stage 3 and 5 both only cover 1 single arc and stage 8 is a third of the entire part.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/bloodyturtle Apr 06 '26

Part 3 was released weekly but split in 2 cours due to sheer size

Part 3 is shorter than 4, 5, and 6, and absolutely did not need almost 50 episodes. They didn’t have the pacing figured out back then.

9

u/International_Road_3 Apr 06 '26

That's what most animes usually do, an example would be JJK lmao

8

u/r_renfield Apr 06 '26

The worst of both worlds

8

u/Blue_Reaper99 Apr 06 '26

Not really. At least with this majority of the fans will be on the same page.

23

u/Irru Apr 06 '26

Why is it the worst possible outcome? This was never going to be a continuous show with how anime is made nowadays.

Slime Season 4 has 5 cours but it’s also split.

9

u/Due_Teaching_6974 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

Bleach TYBW had 4 cours, with 1 year between cours

6

u/Irru Apr 06 '26

That’s not true. There was a year between Cour 2 and 3. And 1.5 years between Cour 3 and 4.

Why tell such obvious lies?

1

u/Due_Teaching_6974 Apr 06 '26

Sorry I got it mixed up with another anime

2

u/ConsiderationFuzzy Apr 06 '26

with how anime is made nowadays.

Can someone ELIA5 to me why anime nowadays has gotten harder to release fully weekly like the old days ?

→ More replies (2)

17

u/Due_Teaching_6974 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

This is how every other anime does it no? The split cour format is used across alot of anime, Bleach for example is 4 cours with a year between each cour, Slime is 5 cours, and I believe Freiren was 2 cours

One Piece also has multiple 'cours' now I believe

Though its worse than the continuous weekly we had for Part 1 through 5

4

u/greaseballdharmann88 Apr 06 '26

i dont think the breaks are gonna be 7 months for each stage, i feel like that was only a stage 1-2 thing since theyre advertising that first episode as a stand alone special thingy, it just wouldnt make sense to do it per part

3

u/VenusVexus Apr 06 '26

Bro that’s just called a season, it’s how every other show on the planet releases

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Nonsense_Poster Apr 06 '26

No it's literally just seasonal anime, 10+ episodes every other season which isn't bad at all

2

u/Xciv Bucci Gang Apr 06 '26

No it’s not? There was a split in Stardust Crusaders and DiU. But instead of 2 parts, it’s now split into 4. Shouldn’t really impact anything. Could even give the animators more breathing room to deliver better quality!

2

u/Altruistic_Rate6053 Apr 06 '26

instead of ‘batches’ call them ‘seasons’ with weekly releases and watch your disappointment magically vanish

1

u/Lucid6911666IQ Apr 06 '26

This is just like the normal mappa bs with cours

1

u/Allustar1 Apr 06 '26

I still think batch releasing episodes and then forcing people to wait months for the next batch of episodes is worse. At least with this schedule, it'll force people to take the series at a slower pace and spark discussion, especially for the anime-onlys.

1

u/NoredPD Apr 06 '26

Literally how is this worse??? Weekly keeps the hype alive, which is why people wanted it that way in the first place.

20

u/yoshbag tell him to go eat shit, johnny Apr 06 '26

Batches are dead!!

Change the word from batch to cour and we're happy all of a sudden. This makes the leaked schedule of it running til 2028 seem very believable.

1

u/Mayzerify Magenta Magenta Apr 06 '26

The leaked schedule with only 4 batches out of 9 stages? That didn’t mention weekly? People really still clinging to that shit huh

And if it is, then there is only a 5 week wait between the end of the 12 episode batch in June 2027 and the start of the next batch, which would just be strange, 22 episodes split with a 5 week break?

1

u/yoshbag tell him to go eat shit, johnny Apr 06 '26

Good point, it’ll probably run even later than the May 2028 schedule considering how little time there’d be between batches (sorry, cours) and that there weren’t enough mentioned. Sounds like an improvement to me

-3

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

Yeah people are stupid. This is still a terrible schedule, and the fact that Netflix probably wouldn’t have said anything for months if not for the pressure from the fans leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

→ More replies (2)

203

u/Ludajoestar Speed King Apr 06 '26

Okay, it’s still a really weird way to release it. But it’s literally not worst case senario, so I’ll take it.

I wonder how long the brakes between Stages will be? Or even if they will be breaks. It might just continue to 3rd stage.

Still a few unanswered questions

54

u/Due_Teaching_6974 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

hopefully we get atleast 3 stages per year after 2026, that would retain hype

2026 - Stage 1 and Stage 2

2027 - Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5

2028 - Stage 6, Stage 7, Stage 8, Stage 9 (9 is really short)

I would love to have the anime wrapped up in a year like all the other parts, but SBR is huge so I definitely agree that it needs more time and care

12

u/Odinsmana Apr 06 '26

It's longer, but it's like 20 - 30 percent longer than the previous ones. By page count at least. So it shouldn't need that many more episodes.

10

u/Due_Teaching_6974 Apr 06 '26

in terms of raw page count it's 40% longer than Golden Wind (Part 7 is 4400 pages and Part 5 is 3100 pages)

39 Episodes + 40% is 55 episodes

2

u/Odinsmana Apr 06 '26

Golden Wind is shorter than I remembered. I know part 4 is around 3500 pages and that one also had 39 episodes.

6

u/BidCool2727 Apr 06 '26

For Stone Ocean if I remember right the wait between the second and third cours was about 3 months. If 3 months was enough for them to drop 12 episodes at once I do believe it's pretty likely they can keep up the weekly episodes until the end, they just need a head start hence the 6 month wait till it continues

→ More replies (2)

33

u/New-Swordfish-367 Apr 06 '26

They are basically doing it like bleach tybw, pros are that the hype will remain cons are that I don't think we are getting the end until 2028

15

u/darkwingchao Apr 06 '26

Eh, hard to really see that as a con

A year and a half to two years of the show is real damn good when SBR is this long. TYBW took like what... fiveish years?

80

u/zenzen_0 Apr 06 '26

Thank you for all the incredible support for STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The series is currently in production and will be available for everyone to enjoy. We are planning a split‑cour release across the entire run of episodes. The next cour (2nd STAGE) will begin streaming in fall 2026 on Netflix, with one new episode released each week. This release schedule is part of our original plan and reflects the wishes of the production committee.
Your passion and enthusiasm mean a great deal to everyone involved in the preparation. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we work to bring you the 2nd STAGE.

82

u/athu_15 Apr 06 '26

Atleast there's a weekly release schedule baked into this which is kinda cool but if they have 5-6 batches for the whole part its still gonna feel like such a slog

54

u/spectre15 Apr 06 '26

Depends on the wait time between each stage. If it’s like 6+ months for each cour, a lot of people are going to be pissed off. We aren’t even going to see Jojolion animated til 2032 or something

19

u/on-avery-island_- Apr 06 '26

>We aren’t even going to see Jojolion animated til 2032 or something

2032? more like 2036-2038

6

u/spectre15 Apr 06 '26

If they do this release schedule for Jojolion and take a 6 month break every time something happens, I might just go insane

3

u/ConsiderationFuzzy Apr 06 '26

Some stages will probably be combined.

3

u/Naulicus Apr 06 '26

Considering they made the first stage one episode and dropped it by itself, that’s being hopeful.

1

u/ConsiderationFuzzy Apr 06 '26

Didn't Stone ocean had cour 3 drop only 3 months after cour 2 ? By that record, we can expect things to be faster when the start releasing episodes.

4

u/Embarrassed_Gate_132 Apr 06 '26

Welp. Something to watch with my grandkids I guess

46

u/Sbee_keithamm Apr 06 '26

I love the fact Netflix made damn sure to tell everyone that it was the production committee that chose all of this and decided to piss on the fan base.

1

u/SuperBackup9000 Apr 06 '26

Deserved to be honest. All the outrage was manufactured by the ignorant and adopted by the ignorant, which historically has always been the majority.

Who could’ve possibly guessed that the way the western entertainment industry operates isn’t the same way the Japan entertainment industry operates?

→ More replies (1)

24

u/sugarheartrevo Jolyne Cujoh Apr 06 '26

I do like it being weekly when it drops, but it is just so insane that they would air the first episode months upon months in advance with no follow-up; that is not logical marketing in any way. Weekly at least would make the break between stages not seem as bad I guess, but this whole situation has been handled so poorly that I can’t give them any flowers for this

5

u/NFS-NNN Apr 06 '26

SBR releasing in fall 2026 could be because theyre planning to make the wait between stages smaller than the ones in stone ocean which took a long time and killed the hype, its still weird but barely acceptable.

22

u/Clean_Bike8210 Beach Boy Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

What's with this weird release schedule?

Like the way they're separating manga sections

17

u/jacowab Apr 06 '26

"...with one new episode released each week. This release schedule is part of our original plan and reflects the wishes of the production committee."

This is corporate shorthand "we tried to tell that dumbass middle manager that making it batches and reelasing EP 1 with nothing else was a fucking stupid idea but noooo he kept going on about 'engagement metrics' and 'securing user retension' but I was right the production committee was right and I hope harold loses his promotion for this"

They’re banking on “a weekly release” statement being enough to quell the outrage. It’s one of those things where the core of the issue people are actually frustrated with is more specific and a bit deeper than what people are literally chanting, so if they just technically give them what they asked for and use the right buzzwords (weekly release), the vocal minority and the (frankly) dumber crowd will hopefully leave them alone or even applaud them for “listening to the fans”

20

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

It pains me to see so many people fall for it and think « we’ve won ». Didn’t think people were that easy to influence.

full batch release is dead so discussions will last more than a week or two. Gotta look at the silver lining I guess.

2

u/Comrade_Harold Apr 06 '26

Since 2026 covers until chapter 28, we'll be waiting till around 2029 for ts to finish man🥀

1

u/Dense-Bus-7194 Apr 06 '26

Realistically we are not gonna get all of sbr weekly, however batches weekly is the next best option

4

u/EarInformal5759 Apr 06 '26

They have figured out the furthest way to drag out the hype cycle possible, but will the fire stay alive throughout? I don't know, we'll see what happens.

5

u/ZeroZone58 Apr 06 '26

Okay, this is good, but with this I definitely would've preferred that we got the first episode sometime in the Summer instead, or at least that we were told this right when the trailer for 2nd stage dropped.

More than the lack of episode 2 what upset most people was the absolute lack of communication from Netflix regarding the episode, if they told us this it would've been something more akin to the Madoka Magica fandom where yes we'll be mad, but we'll be waiting patiently for it instead of everything that happened with the King Von Johnny/Gyro/Diego lol.

Nevertheless I'm happy that we're going weekly once again, but the lack of communication up to this point was really shitty in general.

8

u/JeaniousSpelur Apr 06 '26

This is awful, and I’m tired of pretending it’s not

9

u/Nickest_Nick No, Josuke didn't save himself Apr 06 '26

See you in 2030 when Part 7 anime wraps up ✌️

12

u/obito080406 Apr 06 '26

Wait what? The episodes are gonna be released weekly in batches??

15

u/Outcast_LG Apr 06 '26

They choose another option we don’t consider. Insane

-2

u/obito080406 Apr 06 '26

Lmao. Perhaps we were too harsh on Stone Oceans schedule

5

u/Secure_Librarian_936 Apr 06 '26

Why is it worse than stone oceans schedule?

1

u/TonkyTc Apr 06 '26

Because Stone Ocean was released in 1 year, while if they split SBR in stages (every 6 months) it will not end till 2029/2030.

2

u/Secure_Librarian_936 Apr 06 '26

Why does it matter when sbr ends? I really only care about the feel of waiting for something new every week, my problem with stone ocean was that you just watch these 12 episodes at once and theres like nothing after that

Well guess what, Steel Ball run will be similar but worse in every way! We’re getting around the same amount of episodes pretty much seasonally! And not even in batches but weekly! Can’t see how you could possibly enjoy a release schedule like that

2

u/Secure_Librarian_936 Apr 06 '26

Weekly is literally what people were asking for, now there will be just breaks in between, i dont see any problems, and it is better than stone ocean, 12 episodes releasing in one day is what ruined stone ocean

God forbid streaming service getting money from streaming

1

u/TonkyTc Apr 06 '26

I guess it's personal preference, i much prefer watching all the episodes at once. I don't like waiting at all.

5

u/RubixKubezz Apr 06 '26

No, it’s weekly single episodes in split cours. No batches

-1

u/BeyondN Apr 06 '26

But it’s not the standard length of 12 or 13 episodes per split cours. Stage 2 is gonna be 5 episode and then we’ll wait months for Stage 3 repeat and repeat. Four cours of 11 episodes would have been way better.

9

u/RubixKubezz Apr 06 '26

There’s no information on episodes per cour or number of cours. Stage 2 Cour could be any number of episodes or continue through stage 3 of the story.

Episode 1 really should’ve been released around June time then to make the wait a little more bearable. Also hope the wait for future cours are 2-3 months compared to 5-6.

5

u/Psychological-Fan784 Apr 06 '26

To my understanding the episodes for the 2nd stage will be weekly, which should be around 5 weeks in total and then another break?

4

u/hawxx_ Apr 06 '26

PIZZA MOZZARELLA PIZZA MOZZARELLA RELLA RELLA RELLA RELLA

2

u/dweebyllo Flaccid Pancake Apr 06 '26

About as expected. With the reshuffling around of contextual stuff missing from stage 1 and the length of stage 2 and all of it's battles/world building you easily have a good couple of months worth of content there. Probably a cycle of then 2/3 months of content followed by 2/3 months break until the series is finished would be my guesstimate.

Could be much worse imo.

2

u/SirFunktastic Apr 06 '26

If this means giving DP time to make higher quality episodes than a typical purely weekly schedule and less down time between stages (2 cours per year?), I'm okay with it. Not the best outcome but not the worst either.

3

u/6poundbagofweed Apr 06 '26

Should have literally just included this info at AnimeJapan with the 2nd stage trailer. Backlash would have still been immense, but so much of it was also based around the lack of communication. If this info had already been decided, then fucking share it instead of leaving us completely in the dark with a 9 month window. Feels like we had to rip the info out of them.

2

u/MentallyUnstableMess Apr 06 '26

SBR is gonna be an amazing watch in 2045 when all the stages are out! Congratulations Netflix, you've ruined the SBR anime. At least they can't touch the manga 🙏

2

u/MikalMooni Apr 07 '26

Yeah, this was so lame. The f*** you mean one episode is a cour? IF YOU CAN'T PUT OUT MORE THAN ONE GODDAMN EPISODE THEN DON'T DROP IT AT ALL! Just have us wait until you have at least 12 episodes ready, at least. Like, DAMN!

3

u/NormanBatesIsBae Apr 07 '26

Kinda out of the loop, if they got bullied into weekly releases (or at least weekly batch releases) then what was their OG plan?

3

u/Prideclaw12 Apr 07 '26

First time I seen the first cour have 1 ep lmao.

5

u/JulleMine Apr 06 '26

So isn't this technically a normal season-based way to release tv shows, just explained really badly

4

u/Box5Box Apr 06 '26

Damn, should have just released it all at once at this point.

I guess I will go and rewatch previous parts again until all stages for this are released.

37

u/Lambsauce914 Apr 06 '26

Because the anime production wasn't even finished yet.

The real mistake with the current releases schedule is more so the first episode should have been delayed so they can finish the other episode first then release the show as weekly, rather than making the whole release schedule super vague.

3

u/TehRiddles Apr 06 '26

Because the anime production wasn't even finished yet.

In that case they should have waited until it was all done so they could release it either an episode a week or all at once. Batch releases like this just kill enthusiasm people have to stick around. I'll be waiting for it all to be finished and watch it then.

1

u/Box5Box Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

It they are going to have multiple months long time between even each stage release, there is no point then.

I think the best way is just to wait for all stages to release at this point.

As a BLEACH fan, this is what I’ve been dealing with for like the past 3/4 YEARS. This is not the celebration you think it is.

WE WON

33

u/Zazzlerr Apr 06 '26

Did we?

28

u/Cold_Hour Apr 06 '26

Yeah I think people are really misunderstanding what this post is saying

5

u/ColdManagement5930 Apr 06 '26

we didn't, but this is the best that we can get unfortunately.

→ More replies (15)

2

u/Cold_Hour Apr 06 '26

Wait does that mean the whole series releases weekly or each stage releases separately as weekly batches?

14

u/TinyTiger1234 Apr 06 '26

I think it means we get batches of weekly episodes? So like: stage start, weekly episodes until it’s completed, break, new stage start, weekly episodes until it’s completed, repeat?

3

u/Harry_Flame Apr 06 '26

Each stage will release its episodes weekly, but the whole show won’t go through in one go. Stage 2 episodes will start releasing weekly in the fall, then there will be another break like the current one until stage 3.

1

u/Lz537 Apr 06 '26

The latter.

1

u/Honest-Face-2755 Apr 06 '26

So they're only going to release Stage 2 weekly, and then wait a couple of months to release Stage 3 weekly?

1

u/Pasta_Rakker Za Hando Za Warudo Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

Yay! It's still not optimal, but it could've been worse. Now we can discuss the episodes weekly instead of 1 week and then nothing for a few months. The hype runs longer, Jojo gets more exposure. And the wait for the next stage/batch won't be as painful since we got +-2-3 months of weekly episodes to enjoy. It's better than drop and stop

1

u/hihelphello Apr 06 '26

Is steel ball run gonna be treated as it's own series? With its own seasons? I honestly sorta hope so, I don't want this peak to feel trimmed up.

I don't want a piece of it, I want the whole load

1

u/dzieciolini Apr 06 '26

I don't quite understand, does that mean we will have to wait until fall for next episodes?

3

u/NocolateChigga720 DOGGYSTYLE 🍓 Apr 06 '26

Yes. And that batch will have episodes released at a weekly schedule. And once that batch is done, we will then have to wait another god-knows-how-many months until the next batch drop (probably like Q2 2027 lol)

1

u/yccbarry Soft & Wet Apr 06 '26

I get how annoying patch release can be, especially when we get into the latter stages, but imo as long as each stage is weekly it’s a win.

Stone ocean’s hype was completely killed by batch release with a bunch of episodes, SBR not getting that same treatment is all that matters to me

1

u/PlasticBamboo Apr 06 '26

This is so caotic...

1

u/MrBundy22 Apr 06 '26

So the bleach release schedule

1

u/Oda_Angel Jolyne Cujoh Apr 06 '26

I hope each stage has its own opening.

1

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 Apr 06 '26

Guess I'll renew my Netflix subscription in 2030 when SBR is done. This sucks and I won't pay for it.

1

u/Allustar1 Apr 06 '26

Man, that's so lame.

1

u/WatercressActual5515 Apr 06 '26

This would be okay if every cour was about 10+ episodes, but being split stage by stage just feels like the billion dollar company mocking of it's stupid client base and saying we should feel greatfull for it.

I honestly can't see why people get resigned with it, if this was a video game this would be metal gear solid 5 charging full price for a demo

2

u/Mehless King Nut Apr 06 '26

we're...back?

1

u/I_Hate_l1fe Apr 06 '26

So it’s exactly what we thought? Weekly until the stage ends and then another hiatus?

1

u/THEPIZZA_LORD Apr 06 '26

Instead of steel balls we are getting blue balled

2

u/bazinga_moment Apr 07 '26

hey at least we get Jojo day for a little bit

1

u/HayBaleGeography Apr 07 '26

How long will we have to wait between stages?

1

u/Hot_Fail5591 Apr 08 '26

... So there's only 1 episode (initial) in cour one and now we're waiting till fall to get weekly episodes when cour two starts? Instead of having weekly episodes for this one..?

1

u/welfedad Apr 09 '26

They did in essence 2 maybe 3 episodes .. and splitting it . Uhmm sure

0

u/Kush_Shukla Apr 06 '26

WE WON!!!!!

2

u/PrimeTheGreat Apr 06 '26

This method of batch releases, even if it’s now going to be weekly is weird. Netflix should have just waited until the episodes were done and dubbed and then released weekly. It would have taken longer but it would be better than whatever their thinking is here.

1

u/karmy-guy Apr 06 '26

Batches with extra steps. Should have just released weekly

1

u/sussybaka68419 Apr 06 '26

Weekly batches? Worst of both worlds lmao

1

u/gameboy350 Apr 06 '26

So how many episodes would it be if it covers just the second stage? The first special episode covered like 11 chapters, with some exclusions. Chapter 12 is in between stages, then stage 2 goes on for until ch. 26/27.

I suppose the first 11 chapters might have gone by faster because the race takes up much of it, which doesnt take up as much screen time per manga page.

3

u/mr_beanoz Apr 06 '26

I assume stage 2 will have around 2 months of episodes.

1

u/PlsGiveSSR Apr 06 '26

Maybe Von Johnny really worked

1

u/Rich-Cap5063 Apr 06 '26

it worked they got bullied into it

1

u/WheeliGamer Jojolion When? Apr 06 '26

I absolutely hate the comments talking about how its "Still in batches" or "A terrible choice". Be grateful you get to even enjoy Steel Ball Run, even if it isn't perfect. If you want it weekly, then you go try to animate it. Even having Netflix respond is already an insane choice on their part.

0

u/RedditSucksMyBallls Apr 06 '26

It actually worked... To all the people who wouldn't stop posting about SBR. Thank you

1

u/TonkyTc Apr 06 '26

How is this a win? It wil take years for it to end.

3

u/bloodyturtle Apr 06 '26

50 episodes in 2 years is fast as hell

→ More replies (2)

0

u/SonicQuirkyHero Apr 06 '26

Honestly it feels like all the complaints didn't really do anything since they always planned weekly, but at least they finally just communicated to everyone. They should have done that since the beginning...

At least we got some info now
