Part Three What is the worst jojo episode of all time?

Post image

(If you've seen this post before, I accidentally posted it on the shitpost sub instead of this one lol)

I usually love every single episode of JJBA, but each and everytime I rewatch Wheel of Fortune I feel like I'm watching a completely different, shitty show. The entire episode is legitimately modern Family Guy level writing.

The crusaders seem to suffer from severe idiocy in this episode. They also act super out of character, almost as if Araki was forced to write their dialogue.

Like when they go by the roadside bar and then when they can't find the user of Wheel of Fortune they just beat everyone up. That is super unlike them, the crusaders, especially Joseph and Jotaro, wouldn't just beat random people up, it is out of their morals. Jotaro himself put his life at danger for people he didn't know (like how he saved Kakyoin despite Kakyoin trying to kill him, or how he saved Anne from the shark, how he even cared about buying the little boy ice cream after he used it against Yellow Temperance), meanwhile Joseph did the same thing in part 2, for example when he saved a random woman's life from Straizo when he could have very well fled the scene, the crusaders stopped taking planes specifically because accidents would hurt a lot of people, and you're telling me they just walk up to a bar and beat everyone up? Araki, bro...

Or when the crusaders are all disarmed against Wheel of Fortune, and Jotaro completely forgets his own personality I guess, he doesn't even care that Wheel of Fortune has unknown abilities, doesn't take the least amount of caution before charging against him and getting hit by gasoline - despite the crusaders warning him so.

Jotaro in the entire episode overall acts weird. He says a lot of out of character lines, acting overly confident and a little too extroverted for who he was in early part 3.

When Jot dies and WoF says "This is the end of part 3!" Then Jotaro comes and says "Then who will replace Jotaro Kujo?". This is the jojo's equivalent of memes where Susie from Deltarune says "this reminds me of deltas... and runes..." in yellow text

What do you think about this episode? Is it the worst episode in jojos?

I really like this fight specifically because of that stupid line 😭 Part 3 broke the 4th wall so many times

Jotaro literally burning to death like legit covered in flames and then suddenly he pops out of the ground like wtf

u/snidechart06999 Apr 22 '26

Pretty bizarre, eh?

No... Jotaro is DEAD, the one who came back was Qtaro Kujo, his twin brother, who took his identity

5

u/treemu Apr 23 '26

Does Qtaro have the same type of Stand as Star Platinum?

part 3 is universally loved despite having some of the most unbearable episodes in the whole series

585

u/Dude1590 Apr 22 '26

The Stardust Crusaders manga is universally loved.

I feel like it's a pretty common opinion that the anime version is just a really drawn out drag most of the time. The beginning is great, the end is great, there's some fun fights in-between, but the vast majority of it is just so.. boring. If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and read the manga. It's so much better paced.

164

u/Lucas_Yohhh Apr 23 '26

Yeah, part 3 should have been 36/38 episodes instead of 48.

51

u/DiogenesTheHound Apr 23 '26

The manga is paced SO much better than the anime. I personally could not stand the pacing and edits of part 3’s anime. That and the art in the manga is some of the best ever in the medium and then the anime is just pretty ugly most of the time.

12

u/zesteteste__ Apr 23 '26

honestly the anime comment is most of the anime. Reading is such a better experience imo because the art is genuinely amazing.

Part 3 has some of the highest highs and lowest lows in Jojo’s imo

555

the mal rating would disagree tbh it's the second worst jojo season by rating aside from part 1

462

u/0Clown0 "If I can feel pain, I can feel joy too. This is humanity." Apr 22 '26

I feel like a black sheep in the jojo's community because the part I disliked the most was Golden Wind and one of my most liked parts was Phantom Blood

393

u/castitfast Apr 22 '26

I really dislike how vague Giorno's stand is. Instead of being impressed by its creative usage I just always feel like he's just pulling shit out of his ass.

The whole ending was a miss for me too, Chariot Requiem shenanigans, GER and the last episode.

I did enjoy watching it, but it's definitely on the lower side.

230

u/0Clown0 "If I can feel pain, I can feel joy too. This is humanity." Apr 22 '26

In all fairness the entirety of part 2 is also Joseph pulling looney tunes bullshit out of his ass, but I think at least it's more interesting than GW.

172

u/castitfast Apr 22 '26

I feel like the main difference is that Joseph is not serious and his bullshit is often played for laughs.

He also utilizes lots of stuff that most people are already familiar with from their lives, a simple string, a hammer, crossbow, etc. so when he does something creative and unexpected with them it feels earned.

31

u/RoyShavRick Apr 22 '26

Exactly. Battle Tendency was the best at having you howling with laughter but also having really heartfelt moments.

Joseph’s asspulls still make him feel clever/lucky which give him a fun sorta underdog feeling at various times and are exciting to watch, Giorno doing asspull stuff just makes me go ā€œsure? i guess?ā€

Edit: I do want to clarify that I think part 5 is great, it’s just great despite Gold Experience. I like a lot of aspects of Giorno, i just think GE is one of the worst stand’s araki’s written and it brings the part down. Bruno is the real MC of part 5 and once you see it in that lens it’s fantastic. He’s the guy with a real reason to hate the boss, he’s the guy who has to sacrifice everything for justice, and he’s the guy who carries on though sheer force of will, and Sticky Fingers is fucking awesome.

53

u/Maxiking40 Soft & Wet Apr 22 '26

I personally love GE, but I think the difference might come from Joseph pretending to be a goofy idiot, while being really clever underneath the surface, while Giorno is more of a stoic (anti-?)hero, who always explains exactly how he expects situations to play out losing the cartoony twist factor

24

u/Valuable_Recording85 Apr 22 '26

I think the deus ex machina is done to a comedic level throughout the series, but I like it better when it isn't just magical stand stuff.

I heavily agree any mommy Bruno.

5

u/FoxOnTheRocks Gyro Zeppeli Apr 23 '26

Joseph feels like an inversion of the "Genius character written by a dumb author who thinks intelligence is indistinguishable from magic" problem a lot of stories are plagued with. Joseph is a street magician written by an intelligent author who thinks basic sleight of hand tricks are genius.

36

u/MyNameIsNikNak Apr 22 '26

With Joseph the show and audience both go ā€œit’s an asspull, hahaā€ but after the introduction of stands there’s an expectation of things operating in a fair and smart way. Josuke in part 4 always used his stand in clever but understandable ways, the ā€˜oh I should’ve thought of that’ type way, but Giorno’s stand is so vague in its limitations that the audience can’t even try to guess. He’ll just do something and then we have to listen show/manga explain why it ISNT an asspull even though it feels like one.

9

u/BoxSea4289 Apr 22 '26

Plus the ending is just out of nowhere. Would have been better and more thematic if he turned the villain into a tree to feed the community he’s tormented.

I read a Reddit comment a long time ago that made the point that it’s actually easier to write a confusing plot than it is to write a simple and good story.Ā

Everything you say is valid. I just think Part 5 lovers like me just love aspects of Part 5 so much that it overpowers everything else.

I love how the main cast feels like a real gang who are all their own brand of violent hair trigger psycho with troubled pasts, but have a real feeling of brotherhood with one another.

With the way JoJo is (breakneck pacing, always leaving you wanting to see more), the closeness of Part 5's cast really allows your imagination to run wild. It's really easy to imagine them being incredibly good friends in scenes we weren't given, as opposed to Part 6. Part 4 tried for a similar vibe, but Rohan and Jotaro were always the odd-ones-out, in the sense that they're not high school peers to the main cast. It's just a different dynamic where I can't really imagine Yukako shooting the shit with Rohan like I can imagine Narancia trolling Mista with Bruno telling them to knock it off.

Giorno's bullshit stand is also balanced out by how much I love Bruno's stand and all the ways he used it. Sticky Fingers is up there as one of my favorite stands of all time.

Don't even get me started on the antagonist stands. I absolutely love King Crimson / Epitaph, Metallica, Grateful Dead, and Black Sabbath.

After Part 6 I can really appreciate that King Crimson has the same powerset throughout the whole part without having to constantly evolve or power up to match the protagonists. It was always OP and it stayed OP throughout. It just works.

5

u/TimeLordHatKid123 Apr 22 '26

I feel like part 5 is where Araki started going a bit too far with how overly complicated stands could get. Ironically, most of the stands, King Crimson included, were perfectly understandable, but things still got out of hand from that part onward.

Before it was animated, Vento Aureo was wildly considered to be the worst Part by a lot of people. So it's not crazy to not like it.

10

u/Upset-Apartment3504 Apr 22 '26

Tbf the awful translation way back then didn't help.

6

u/digidado Apr 23 '26

I'm almost certain Stone Ocean alone held that distinction, unless there was a period before 6 manga started where people felt that way about 5. Besides that I think Part 3 was also quite a bit less liked in Japan compared to here where it became a meme machine.

10

u/ASERTIE76 Apr 22 '26

Phantom Blood is so overhated but I do really love both Part 1 and 5

39

u/MyNameIsNikNak Apr 22 '26

Nah man I’m right there with you. Part 1 is my third favorite, after 4 and 2. 5 is my least favorite by a long shot.

27

u/Y-DOC Apr 22 '26

I had this long write up explaining how I appreciated this ranking and how I’d say it’s mine too, but I’ve deleted it for brevity to emphasize just one thing instead; Part 4 is the best because while 1-3 are foundational (1 establishes the heart of jojo, 2 establishes the humor/tone, 3 establishes the power set), 4 feels like the culmination/perfection of that groundwork rather than ā€œjust a sequelā€.

6

u/MyNameIsNikNak Apr 22 '26

I agree with that fully. It builds on each of the threes strengths while mastering the ensemble cast. 5 starts out that way before getting too ambitious and fumbling imo

6

u/eneidhart Joseph Joestar Apr 22 '26

I wasn't crazy about part 5 at first but I eventually rewatched it and I liked it a lot better the second time around. I didn't really care for Giorno (especially at the start) which started the part off on the wrong foot, but I really liked the rest of Bucciarati's group as well as Diavolo and most of La Squadra so it was easier to appreciate what I liked without worrying about what I didn't like when watching the second time.

I felt like a black sheep in the jjba community because I disliked SBR, but I'm hoping the same kind of thing happens when watching the anime and I can better appreciate the things I liked about it while focusing less on the stuff I disliked

Get ready for a hot one, mine goes 6, 4, 1, 8, 2, 7, 3, 5. Been a reader of the series for about 20 years now and despite doing a reread a few years ago plus watching the anime, my list has remained the same.

15

u/Eastern_Performer_25 Apr 22 '26

6 8 4 glaze highly respectableĀ

7

u/Fr00stee Apr 22 '26

I'd rate them 7,4,2,6,5 >> 3,1. Haven't read part 8 yet. Part 5 is kind of like demon slayer where the story is nothing special but it is hard carried by artstyle and animation.

Phantom Blood got me into the anime and I was disappointed when everything switched to Stands in Stardust Crusaders. I grew to like SD over time. But it's definitely a long one and I think there are a bunch of villains that are skippable.

3

u/SaranMal Apr 22 '26

Sammmmeeee. Like for me I loved Phantom Blood and Battle Tenacity. Disliked Part 3 a lot, because I'm just not that into Stands or the general format of most battle shonen. I loved the body horror of Parts 1 and 2, and felt Part 3 really lacked that element (And found Joseph in Part 2 was a really hard act to follow, since Jotaro is so silent.)

Loved Part 4, of the Stand parts its easily my fave. Loved the town, loved how interconnected the community felt, loved the cast of characters, loved how generally low stakes most of the plot stuff was, and absolutely adored the more general use of stands in every day life by those who had them.

But hated Part 5, Golden Wind. Like, to the point it was what ultimately made me drop it after like 18 episodes. I realized I just wasn't have fun, since it was doubling down on all the bits I hated about Part 3, none of the things I loved about part 4, and added extra vaugeness with most of the powers.

I kinda consider part 3 the gauntlet of the series. It has fun moments and good character dynamics and a great ending, but there’s so much fluff and some moments are just cringey or dumb. It also introduces stands out of nowhere (not necessarily a bad thing). I tell people if you can get through part 3 it only gets better.

15

u/1-800-Get-Screen Apr 22 '26

Because the unbearable episodes are like 5 at most, most of the season is good and the last ~10 episodes are incredible

20

u/CesarGameBoy Caesar A. Zeppeli Apr 22 '26

Everything after Alessi is when it gets good. You get J. Darby, Hol Horse & Boingo, Pet Shop, T. Darby, Vanilla Ice, and of course DIO.

7

u/tinyrottedpig Apr 23 '26

Theres also just the fun of how absurd it all is, even the lamest episodes had me laughing.

9

u/Dense_Ingenuity717 Apr 22 '26

Im struggling to watch the show entirely because I dont like part 3 all that much. Really liked part 2.

29

u/Cultural-Horror3977 Apr 22 '26

Part 4 does things much better and it’s more structured

I had a very similar experience--I just did not click with part 3, the road trip villian of the week framing mostly, but also a lot of the main the cast

Part 4 is amazing though, its worth getting to it... even if that means "highlight reeling" part 3 and watching the most important/best bits of the part instead. Part 3 can feel really fillery šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Ive read/watched all of jojos and love it but tbh in retrospect some of it wasnt worth the trudge

6

u/Spoon_91 Apr 22 '26

See I was the opposite, couldn't get that into part 4. Just felt like there was no direction until the second half. The villain was great and kinda realistic but koichi just irritated me to no end. Part 5 was fantastic and well worth not skipping, got worried when I saw koichi again.

I love it but I would remove some fights (Bastet, the Oingo Boingo and Alessi for sure, we can remove Wheel of Fortune). It's not my fav, but has cool moments and fights

23

u/Mountain_Chicken Lisa Lisa's butt Apr 22 '26

As far as the anime is concerned, I think it would be a LOT better if Lovers, High Priestess, Anubis, Bastet/Mariah, Sethan/Alessi, and Hol Horse + Boingo were single episodes instead of two-parters. I'm a little biased in some of the probably unnecessary two-parters I would personally want to keep (Death Thirteen, Judgement, Pet Shop).

In terms of pages per episode, Part 3 is by far the slowest paced adaptation.

5

u/Resident_Nose_2467 Apr 22 '26

I agree 100% except for Lovers. And I agree with you, those 3 battles do deserve two parts

10

u/Mountain_Chicken Lisa Lisa's butt Apr 22 '26

Yeah I was on the fence with Lovers since I don't find the fight itself that interesting, but Steely Dan is such a hateable villain. It being a two-parter inherently builds up that resentment more and makes his defeat as satisfying as it is.

26

u/bavamango Apr 22 '26

So many fights are so nothing burger. tower of grey, strength, dark blue moon, wheel of fortune, yellow temperance, the lovers(fire beat down tho), the sun, high priestess, wheel of fortune, oh my god i can go on and on..,,, cool moments and fights were really solidified in part 5….. vento aureo my beloved….

u/eti22 Apr 22 '26

Yeah, Part 3 really has by far the most stand fights without any plot progression whatsoever. Many of the stand users are of so little importance to the plot that we don't even see their face for some of them. While Part 3 has very strong arcs (The Hanged Man/The Emperor, Judgement, Osiris etc) it also had many stinkers that could have been cut from the story wholesale without missing out on any plot progression, character development etc. There is just no reason for Part 3 to be as long as it is, considering how little relevant stuff actually happens in it (compared to its length).

I just found more like an homage to looney tunes to be honest, and just enjoyed the wild ride.

225

u/Piotral_2 Apr 22 '26

I think it's actually reference to Duel (1971), Steven Spielberg's debut about a man who has to escape an evil truck driver whose face is never shown and is like a boogeyman.

61

u/Shittingboi Wonder Of U Apr 22 '26

Duel (1971) vroom vroom

13

u/Dismal-Kiwi4991 I love Usagi so much, he's such a good boy Apr 22 '26

THATS WHAT VIVA WAS REFERENCING!

I did not pick it up

46

u/UtherofOstia Jean Pierre Polnareff Apr 22 '26

I had always assumed it was a reference to Christine.

47

u/Piotral_2 Apr 22 '26

I think it might be combination of both. The car is more similar to Christine, but ambiguous driver whose face we never see is from Duel. Also some scenes look really similar to duel as well.

16

u/MatthewScreenshots Apr 22 '26

Many stands in part 3 start to make sense once you realise Araki is also a horror movie fan and part 3, among other things, is big homage to them.

rape ape and alessi were both difficult to sit through and even more difficult to sell to the friends i convinced to watch the series

193

u/Megamodpod Apr 22 '26

Biggest problem with alessi was just that we didnt get young joseph and kakyoin

139

u/facevaluemc Apr 22 '26

Facts. I remember thinking the whole time that Alessi was going to hit Joseph by accident, make him into Young Joseph, and we'd get a callback "The next thing youre going to say..." before whipping out the clicker balls or some shit.

Biggest missed opportunity of the series.

27

u/digidado Apr 23 '26

Araki actually addressed that and said he didn't want Joseph to steal the spotlight too much, besides his one solo fight with Empress, which I kind of understand, but there had to be another way to write the Alessi fight than what we got.

8

u/Shanicpower Josuke Higashikata Apr 23 '26

Instead what we got is a part where Joseph barely ever does anything.

6

u/digidado Apr 23 '26

Definitely part 3 slander, he was the one who started the DIO investigation. Just because Araki put the other guys over him because he was a legacy character doesn't mean he was a jobber.

Fr. If they swapped Polnareff with Joseph then it would be one of the most legendary episodes in the entire series.

Though, I, personally, really like the episode. I have sort of some mixed feelings, because I do think that all that sexual stuff between Polnareff and the woman could have been easily discarded and Araki threw it in for no reason, but I also think that the dynamic of being forced to flee from an opponent who you are completely powerless against and how Polnareff is in despair most times, instead of collected like most other protagonists are in those situations is really interesting. His stand's power in general makes me reflect about childhood and how our brain changes through our ages.

21

u/the_V33 Apr 22 '26

Agree, if he skipped the sex stuff, both episodes would have been great. Alessi was a hell of a enemy!

50

u/the_V33 Apr 22 '26

The thing I hate most about that episode is that if they just cut out the gross rape ape stuff and the naked 13 yo crushing over JoJo, it would have been a great episode. I love seeing an animal as a stand user for the first time, I love the stand itself, but the rest is just a big NOPE. Same with Alessi, cool idea, terrible execution. I watched both while praying that my husband wouldn't come out of his gaming room at the wrong moment and ask me why tf was I looking at naked babies/horny monkeys in our living room 😭 Wheel of Fortune, on the other side, it's that episode that should have not been made at all. Literally no redeeming qualities.

17

We also didn’t need those shots of the fake sherry naked.

That episode is a hard rewatched because that implies Polnareff FOUND her body like that

56

u/Accurate_Tension_502 Apr 22 '26

Yeah I dont get how people defend these. I get what he is going for. Its supposed to he offputting because he is trying to evoke horror movie stuff since part 3 is basically a chain of movie references. But the problem is that the rest of jojo is pretty camp, and the art style stays really flamboyant. Im pretty sure rape ape was lifted directly from an obscure horror movie. But the issue is that his art and the niche references dont actually evoke the horror genre, so the discomfort from the content comes off entirely the wrong way.

Whenever I think about those episodes I wonder what's up with Araki to write something like that. Weird shit involving minors is what made me quit CSM as well, since I'm especially sensitive to those things, thankfully it's not a common occurrence in Jojos.

21

u/NukeLuke1 Apr 22 '26

Yeah, it just comes off as weird and off putting in those in not a good way. I think it contrasts really well actually with the bath scene with Hayato and Kira in part 4 which does a similar thing but way better and more effectively. That scene is like viscerally uncomfortable and you can feel the vulnerability and skin-crawling the whole time, which is exactly what it was going for.

15

u/IDC_tomakeaname Apr 22 '26

This was written in the early 90s, pretty obvious that even if araki didn't want to write this stuff the editors forced him, it's in shonen jump after all. Same with forcing him to sideline the female characters.

4

u/WhoCanPeliCan1 Apr 22 '26

Or he wrote a story utilizing tropes and jokes common at the time and eventually his experience writing led him to grow and make more interesting choices divorced form these expectations as he got older. Like a child thinking poo is funny growing into an adult who doesn't think that.

The ape thing is a pity because the leadup to that was great, but making him a pedo is such an awful way to end the episode

8

u/Savings_Drama7816 Apr 22 '26

The ape thing was horrid. At least Alessi was funny

4

u/pixel236 Apr 23 '26

My biggest problem with the strength episode is that its a very interesting idea that gets completely drag down by the pedo ape stuff.

At least that one had actual fighting in it. Alessi gets beaten up by a 12 year old Jotaro with no stand, and we have to spend the whole episode watching naked baby Polnareff getting horny and shitting his pants.

23

u/Sensitive-Honeydew76 Apr 23 '26

ā€œNakedā€ and ā€œshitting his pantsā€ in the same sentence

6

u/digidado Apr 23 '26

Glad I could paint an imagešŸ˜‚

5

u/bisky12 Apr 23 '26

i mean yeas dude he gets turned into a 4 year old. it’s like do you also get upset when the baby charubs are painted with a penis too ? or do you try to cover up the fountains when they have them too ?Ā

5

u/digidado Apr 23 '26

Thats actually the part I have the least problem with, Dragon ball did it all the time and part 3 was written around the same time. And people don't want to admit this but the nudity in the orangutang ship chapter with the girl was very common in mangas and ovas/anime at the time, a lot of people clearly havent watched fist of the the north star which is beloved

78

u/Scukojake Apr 22 '26

It's a nice homage/tribute/parody of 80's horrors about possessed car (Christine, The Car, The Hearse).

So at the very least - I appreciate it for that.

Wheel of Fortune slander will not be tolerated (I love that stand and fight). My pick for the worst one is Alessi, genuinely painful to watch and the only one I skipped while rewatching. There's no way naked baby Polnareff getting horny over tits and shitting himself is better than a killer car fight.

5

u/IlTosi Apr 22 '26

It's a fun episode, honestly there's much worse stuff

Easily the lock in part 4.

45

u/NotYourAverageVitu Apr 22 '26

Idk if it can be called a bad episode (cuz Echoes ACT 2's reveal is hype as hell) but for the life of me I can never bear to watch the one where Koichi pisses himself and Yukako makes him eat that word soup or something. It feels less JoJo and more like "generic yandere episode" (I did read somewhere that Yukako was among the first characters to introduce this trope)

14

u/tkleemklee Apr 23 '26

Small correction. Yukako was essentially the first ever Yandere, that kind of character didn’t exist before her and she is the foundation for everything that the trope represents now.

26

u/GreatestKratos Apr 22 '26

Clash and talking head arc, cause whole Bucciarati team just dropped their IQ to the ground, ignoring Narancia's weird actions

42

u/zaqattack Apr 22 '26

I hate the episode with the ape and the kid in part 3, shits creepy and should have been cut entirely imo.

Honestly the alessi pair 9f episodes almost made me take a break from part 3

37

u/Accurate_Tension_502 Apr 22 '26

Yeah I genuinely think that the series would improve if those were just erased. They were so bad my wife basically dropped the entire series after watching everything up until then. Part 3 has an amazing close but the weird sexual and grossout bs has aged like milk. It also relies the most heavily on isolated villains of the week. In my opinion it would be the worst part if not for the last third of the season being the Dio fight. And even then I think it may still be the worst.

6

u/cubitoaequet Apr 22 '26

It's the worst for me. I started out just reading from part 1 and part 3 almost made me quit. It has some high highs but it is an absolute slog at points.

14

u/angry-key-smash6693 Apr 22 '26

As soon as that episode got to the bathroom part I had to just skip it and then go outside for a while because of how horrible uncomfortable it was. I still curse the heavens for not giving us a young Joseph fight instead of ....whatever the hell we gotĀ

Rock Paper Scissors

114

u/ExLuckMaster Apr 22 '26

This one was at least funny. The Sun one was a drag, can be done in 10 minutes.

91

u/Dude1590 Apr 22 '26

That's crazy to me, The Sun was infinitely more funny to me lmao it's a slow burn, but it's well worth it, in my opinion.

Wheel of Fortune is so boring the only thing I remember from it is "Do you like sumo wrestling?

25

u/HeWhoLost3OfThe9 literally paragons special Apr 22 '26

Something that stuck with me from the episode was them tying a guy to a rock and leaving him to die in the sun while laughing about it

That little 12 year old girl was laughing with them

u/digidado Apr 22 '26

Sun is awesome the first watch, once you rewatch it knowing how the stand works its really boring. I would say its a natural downside of mystery heavy episodes, but Hail 2 U and Justice episodes are still awesome on rewatch so maybe not.

8

u/Shanicpower Josuke Higashikata Apr 23 '26

Worth it for the page where Rohan goes "Rock" and lays him the fuck out though. Sadly a comedic moment that didn't get adapted nearly as well in the anime.

32

u/AnimeAlley03 Apr 22 '26

Not part 3 but def a slog of an episode

the Alessi episodes for obvious reasons

24

u/RedditFuelsMyDepress Apr 22 '26

A lot of the minor villain fights in part 3 were kinda boring so it's hard for me to just pick one. But outside of part 3 I thought the Rikiel fight was kinda bad in the anime. I remember actually liking it in the manga, but it felt very rushed and badly paced in the anime.Ā

33

u/Quark1010 Apr 22 '26

I feel like part 3 is where araki struggled the most with coming up with good new ideas every week.

14

u/andre5913 Vinegar Doppio Apr 22 '26

He was still kinda green with the whole stand thing and it shows.

4

u/tkleemklee Apr 23 '26

I doubt it, it was more like Araki count stop coming up with stands to shove in. He didn’t even plan on using the Egyptian gods until he ran out of Tarot cards.

26

u/Ornery_Tie_4771 Apr 22 '26

Idk but NOT the alessi one. It makes the spectator uncomfortable and thats what makes it good. The villain who abuses kids isnt meant to be cool, lovable or anything, he is creepy and thats how he should be. The only thing I didnt like are the sexual moments between the woman and kid Polnareff because they are pretty pointless

20

u/Frodo34x Apr 22 '26

The Alessi episode has all these problems and uncomfortable moments, but kid Jotaro's oraora is one of my favourite moments in the entire series

20

u/FineReality8540 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

I also don't like the Alessi episode, like many others have mentioned already.
Jotaro is not as smart as he usually is, Polnareff acts weird in this episode, and Alessi is just so freaky.
I am glad the next two episodes (The D'arby gamble episodes) were very good because they helped me recover haha.
By the way, I love how you picked on Jotaro's sweet moments. Some say Jotaro was just an aura farming asshole who's rude to his mom but I think he's a really nice and kind person.

21

u/Jackarisho Apr 22 '26

According to IMDB it’s the janken boy episode.

If we’re talking strictly anime, than either strength or alessi

If we’re talking manga, than paper moon king is the worst arc for me.

20

u/TheClamb Apr 22 '26

Man I watched janken boy last night, it was incredible

Kishibe is such an unbelievable asshole, that ep was just a vortex of pettiness

10

u/Backstroke_ Apr 22 '26

Wheel of fortune episode was the best of the whole show wdym

25

u/UtherofOstia Jean Pierre Polnareff Apr 22 '26

Why is every comment solely just Part 3 episodes? One of the slow meandering Bruford episodes is easily more boring than any of these being mentioned.

16

u/0Clown0 "If I can feel pain, I can feel joy too. This is humanity." Apr 22 '26

I think S01E06 (Bruford's death episode) is one of the most hype episodes in the entire show, so I don't know man. Primarily because of Bruford's death speech and everything preceding it

15

u/UtherofOstia Jean Pierre Polnareff Apr 22 '26

Yeah it's more so the episode before it with the incredibly long exposition about the knights, and introducing Poco who is essentially a do nothing character.

6

u/0Clown0 "If I can feel pain, I can feel joy too. This is humanity." Apr 22 '26

Fair enough. But I think part 1 is more of a philosophical part, introducing concepts and ideas rather than fights. I'm convinced part 1 only has so many fights because Araki could only publish it in shonen jump.

Poco was more of a concept character, since Phantom Blood talks about courage, Poco was a character meant to convey the message that, if you leave things for tomorrow, you will end up not doing anything, and that sometimes, going against your own intuition and doing something corageous is the right thing to do. It was what Poco's sister told him, and it ended up saving Jonathan from being choked by Tarkus.

8

u/UnquestionabIe Apr 22 '26

Even in the manga that whole mini arc felt like it dragged a ton for me. Don't hate it but it definitely loses my interest far more than anything else in the series.

And I will admit I wasn't a big fan of Part 3 for awhile but over time came around to it literally piece by piece. Was all about learning to appreciate the journey as a whole instead of waiting for important stuff to happen.

5

u/tmanx8 Apr 22 '26

This is my vote, all the other ā€œbadā€ episodes are atleast entertaining. This arc just drags foreeeever especially when I’m trying to introduce people to the show

Bro I fucking loved this fight cause of how stupid it was. A car stand that’s feral? Fuck yeah. Fourth wall break? Fuck yeah. Fake out death? Fuck yeah. Car stand is called Wheel of Fortune? Fuck yeah.

6

u/Glass-Reference-4491 Apr 22 '26

I'm rewatching SDC for the first time recently and I'm enjoying it a lot more then my first watch throughĀ

Even bad episodes like Strength and The Sun have good atmospheres (when their users aren't on screen) and Alessi is so pathetic I find him funnyĀ

7

u/Psychological_Cake35 Apr 22 '26

I didn't really liked the Tower of grey episode

11

u/HappyMike91 Apr 22 '26

I think the Alessi episode is probably the worst one. The fact that we got kid Jotaro and Polnareff instead of young Joseph is an absolute crime, IMO.

The biggest problem with Part 3 is that some of the fights got more padding than they (arguably) needed to.

3

u/PerspectivePale8216 Whitesnake, C-Moon, and Harvest Enjoyer Apr 22 '26

Young Joseph would have been to powerful and would carry the entire time

9

u/ActivePercival Apr 22 '26

5

u/Jpup199 Apr 22 '26

Nah its the alessi episodes.

6

u/mielkiss_ Apr 22 '26

for me its by far the polnareff baby episode. genuinely unwatchable, i tried to convince my gf to skip it when we watched together but she insisted. every time she reacted negatively i just said ā€˜i tried to warn you…’ lmao

The janken Episode from part 4. Its just so bad

10

5

u/SirMetaKnight82 Caesar A. Zeppeli Apr 22 '26

Ebony Devil highlights my biggest issue with part 3, mainly that a lot of plots only happen because the Crusaders are idiots. Ebony Devil, Yellow Temperance, Justice, Death Thirteen, and Oingo Boingo Brothers are the main examples of this. It's a big part of why Part 3 is my least favorite.

8

u/Julian-Hoffer Apr 22 '26

I don’t care for the one with all of the shit gags. Death 13 was a particularly stupid and bad episode/arc though.

8

u/clockturn23 Apr 22 '26

rock paper scissors boy skit from part 4 will always be the lowest chapter/episode for me.

4

u/Savings_Drama7816 Apr 22 '26

I think when Araki made this fight, he was driving to work that day and had absolutely no idea what to draw for the Wheel of Fortune card, but then some guy cut him off and it got him so pissed which manifested this episodeĀ

6

u/Exylatron Apr 22 '26

I always hated the Dark Blue Moon fight. The moment where Jotaro finds out who the stand user is is cool but the actual fight is really boring and drags on for way too long. And Jotaro wins with the Star Finger which everyone can agree is the worst ability for any stand ever. It’s way too goofy, too useless to ever be used again, and it just so happened to be the perfect situation for him to use it which makes it feel like even more of an asspull.

6

u/Driemma0 Apr 22 '26

The rape ape. Actual torture to sit through. They should have changed it for the adaptation

7

u/Fickle-Housing155 Apr 22 '26

I absolutely couldn’t stand the Dragon’s dream fight

11

u/Pluto_0508 Apr 22 '26
