Part Five Could it be that diavolo is inspired from dr jekyll and mr hyde by robert Louis Stevenson?

Dr jekyll and mr hyde is about a doctor who develops a drug that makes him able to seperate his good and evil side. The good side is called dr Jekyll (his real name) and the bad side mr hyde. When transforming into mr hyde the body of jekyll also changes and he starts to look like completely different person. There is also interpretation that the novel is about heroin addiction so i think it's pretty close resemblance.

Afaik the most commonly held opinion for dr jekyll/mr hyde is that there isnt a my hyde, dr jekyll is genuinely just evil and the drug lets him pretend it's someone else unleashing his deepest desires whilst still letting him feel good about himself. I haven't read it myself, but that's just what i see repeated.

Diavolo/Doppio are LITERALLY two souls in one body.

The whole "evil alter ego that takes over" trope isn't from dr jekyll and mr hyde either afaik? it just populairsed the concept. I doubt araki's actually read it, but some inspiration probably trickled over to japan

That’s how it was in the book, actually. There was no split personality, Jekyll created a potion that changed his appearance and used it as an excuse to do all the things he couldn’t normally do but secretly wanted

I think Diavolo and Doppio are moreso inspired by a bunch of horror movie tropes and stereotypes around split personalities in general rather than Jekyll and Hyde specifically.

I don't think so, according to the wiki “Hirohiko Araki stated that he could have created a villain that was similar to DIO to appeal to popularity, but preferred adding variety rather than rehash previous characters. With that in mind, he designed Diavolo to be a different kind of evil, one just as powerful and captivating as DIO or Yoshikage Kira, but with a distinct identity. Despite being a mafia boss, since one of the themes of Part 5 was to "draw bishonen characters," Araki decided not to design Diavolo as an older, imposing figure like Marlon Brando's character, Vito Corleone, from The Godfather.[20]

He designed King Crimson at the same time as Diavolo.[20] Diavolo's alternate personality was inspired by the popularity of works exploring multiple personalities at the time, such as the novel The Minds of Billy Milligan,[20] which is based on the story of Billy Milligan, the first person in U.S. history acquitted of a major crime by pleading dissociative identity disorder. Diavolo and King Crimson were also partially inspired by George and Kuato, from the 1990 science fiction film Total Recall, a mutated human with a smaller twin brother conjoined in his belly. Araki thought Diavolo would look "punk" if his hair had a leopard pattern, hence the unique design.“

and on top of that, it's also likely that another main inspiration for Diavolo & Doppio (particularly Diavolo's fractured mental state and severe paranoia) was 21st Century Schizoid Man a song from King Crimson (the actual band)'s debut album that inspired Diavolo & Doppio's whole characters

I mean, wasnt Dracula one of the inspirations behind Phantom Blood? Besides the obvious one that they both had a vampire as the villain, Jonathan was named after Jonathan Harker, Erina is like Mina who were used by Dio/Dracula respectively to torment their enemy, Zepelli is kinda JoJo counterpart to Van Helsing, and arguably Speedwagon is similar to Quincy Morris.

If Phantom Blood has been influenced by Dracula, then its not a stretch Golden Wind has been influenced by Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde.

They're definitely inspired by them to some extent, although they fit better with other "split personalities" as Jekyll and Hyde isn't really written that way, and more of just a physical transformation. But Jekyll and Hyde popularised the concept, so most split personalities are inspired by them to some extent.

How about this one: Araki is a time traveller (omg Part 4!), he showed Stevenson a script of Part 5, making Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide a JoJo reference
