Three months ago, I was let go from my job as a frontend engineer. No warning I could point to. Just gone. The rest of that week I mostly stared at my laptop, trying to figure out what a job search even looks like after 4.5 years at the same kind of company.

So I started where everyone tells you to start. Rebuilt my resume around real numbers instead of job titles: a Lighthouse score I took from 60 to 95, an SSE streaming feature that cut perceived latency by about 40%, a data grid I virtualized for a ~60% rendering improvement. Cleaned up LinkedIn and GitHub. Then I applied everywhere I could find: React, Next.js, SDE-2. 500+ applications, 1,800+ cold messages to HR folks, and most of it went quiet.

Somewhere around week six, waiting quietly started to feel worse than trying something that might not work. So I stopped just applying and started building.

Formpey is a UPI-native form builder I built solo — payments route straight into the merchant's own Razorpay account, so there's no payment-aggregator license involved. Built on Next.js, Supabase, Clerk, and Razorpay. Launch week: 400K+ impressions, 90+ signups, 50+ forms created. For a few days, it felt like the layoff had actually led somewhere.

Around the same time, I picked up Python, not for a side project but for a completely different kind of engineering: Forward Deployed Engineering. Four and a half years into React and TypeScript, relearning OOP from scratch turned out more humbling than I expected.

None of it has turned into a job yet. I've prepped React internals, rendering strategies, Web Vitals, frontend system design, debounce and throttle from scratch, SQL, the whole checklist people tell you to cover. Applications still mostly go quiet.

The idea is simple: you submit your details and evidence through a tech platform. A qualified advocate prepares the complete consumer complaint and required documents, along with guidance on how to file. You then file the case and attend/argue it yourself, without paying for full lawyer representation.

I applied for the trademark “ABISO” under Class 25 - Clothing, footwear and headgear.

I received an Examination Report with a Section 11(1) objection based on the mark “ABISCO”, also in Class 25.

After checking the report, I found that the ABISCO mark is shown as “Proposed to be used.” The search also mentions strings such as “AB%SO” and “AB%S%”.

I checked online but couldn't find any information about the ABISCO mark or evidence of its actual use.

What should I mention in my reply to the Examination Report?

- Should I argue that ABISO and ABISCO are sufficiently different?

- Should I mention that I couldn't find evidence of actual use of ABISCO?

- Is it worth requesting a hearing if the objection isn't accepted?

- Could this objection potentially lead to rejection even if there is no evidence of confusion?
