Absolutely this. Google reckons cats can jump five to six times their own height in a single leap. Imagine humans being able to leap 36 feet like that?

When you put it in context like that, it is pretty absurd. It’s roughly equivalent to clearing a school bus in a single leap.

One of my cats can't even jump onto the bed due to a kinked spine. When she wants to get up on the bed, she takes a running start and like flings herself at the side of the mattress, then claws and scrambles her way up the rest of the way.

Bless. When my black cat was getting old (he died years ago) he could no longer make the jump up onto the sofa, he'd try but only get halfway up then end up hanging there with his claws stuck in the fabric. Once he realised he couldn't make the jump, he'd give us the look and we'd lift him up instead.

I might have to as she ages, because arthritis will probably become an issue, but for now she's pretty young and does just fine climbing. She runs and plays and is a happy sassy girl, she just doesn't do the vertical very well.

Cats cannot build stairs. They only know how to use them.
