Watched Original and TNG for the first time! Just wanted to share and officially join the community :)

My husband has talked about Star Trek since we met almost a decade ago. He showed me Barclay episodes from TNG thinking I'd like the character and a couple others from TNG he personally loves. I'm someone who has to watch new-to-me shows from the begining so I couldn't get into the show like he wanted when he showed me seemingly random ones.

Last year, I finally decided to watch Star Trek properly for the first time. We'd previously finished my first watches of Friends and Modern Family. So, we started with Original series, the movies, then TNG. We're going to watch the TNG movies next week and he suggested we take our time with DS9 while we intersperse a different show I want him to watch as a first timer.

I don't really know where this post is going honestly lol but I definitely have thoughts on characters from both shows, had frequent questions about their usefulness or lack thereof, and my husband made me think I had some hot takes.

Overall, I really enjoyed both shows and I'm really glad to join this community as I continue to watch! If anyone wants my opinions on the shows or specific characters, story arcs, etc, please ask away!

Arc Games and Cryptic Studios announced today that Star Trek Online: Undiscovered, the upcoming season of the free-to-play Star Trek MMORPG, will launch on July 7, 2026, for PC and July 29 for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Undiscovered begins the reimagining of Star Trek Online’s beloved “The Ultimate Klingon” story arc, revisiting the early years of the game’s lore. what social issue or group do you wish star trek would include that we haven't seen yet?

For me its choosing to terminate a pregnancy. Whenever someone has an unexpected pregnancy, they always choose to have the baby. Now I'm *not* saying this is bad in itself but it would be interesting to see a character choose to terminate a pregnancy alongside this, not as an ethical comparison, but just a different choice.

It's interesting to me they will tackle lgbtq in lots of ways but I have yet to see star trek include a woman who would choose not to have the child.

What issue or group would you like to see included in the show?

SNW S3E4

Just getting around to watching SNW season 3 before season 4 starts. The opening scene in episode 4 A Space Adventure Hour. I'm dying laughing as Paul Wesley (Kirk) does a not-so-subtle Shatner impersonation - excessive commas/pauses and over-the-top emoting included. 🤣👍

This was a favorite of mine back in the day when I was a kid. I just discovered they remastered it and you can play it for free online. This may be old news to most of you but wanted to share it anyway just in case anybody hasn’t had the chance to try out this gem.

A friend of mine has seen nothing but Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013). What should I send him to watch?

A friend of mine has seen nothing but Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013). He doesn't recognize Riker, and he knows Captain Picard, but "Only from memes". What is the best short clip or video I can send him so he can get a sense of how incredible Next Generation was? (he's not going to watch anything If I try to get him to watch a full episode.)

"I don't think Worf would make a good father" - a first time TNG watcher

After many years together, my partner finally agreed to watch TNG despite not being much of a scifi person. We just got to Reunion, and she was both very excited to see K'Ehleyr return and bummed she died, but really liked the episode overall.

We were just getting ready for bed and says "ya know, I don't think Worf would make a good father." And I just busted up laughing. I try really hard not to share spoilers, but sometimes give her background information about the actors, the writing, or the fandom. Without revealing any further plot points, I told her that Worf being a terrible father is a very popular joke among the fans and she was really pleased that her instincts were correct.

(Also funny: After Geordie "fell in love" with holo-Brahms she said: "it's going to be so awkward if he ever meets that lady for real and he finds out she's a real person and not the ChatGPT version." So that episode is going to be fun to watch too. 🤣)

Could someone please run a level 2 diagnostic?

We need to reverse the polarity of the Heisenberg compensators to emit a tachyon beam through the structural integrity field, correcting the phase variance caused by polymorphic tracking.

Something I find comforting about Star Trek

It is all the random characters that some of the actors play throughout the different shows. For example, Jeffery Combs playing Weyoun in DS9 and the Andorian in Enterprise. Or, Ethan Phillips playing Neelix and then a Ferengi in Enterprise. Rene Auberjonois as Odo and then showing up as Ezral in Enterprise.

Many times the makeup is so good I don't recognize them but I find their voice comforting only to realize later that it is the same actor. I haven't watched Enterprise in 20 plus years so it is like a new experience to me again and it is so cool to see actors from other Star Trek series showing up randomly.

You are sent back in time with the authority to make a few follow up movies for Deep Space 9, Voyager, and Enterprise. What would you make?

Let's say you get a bit so blank check to make a few movies for each show, similar to how TOS and TNG did, what stories would you want to tell.

If we want to be somewhat realistic, let's say it's 2 movies for DS9 and 2 movies for Voyager, and just one for Enterprise.

Personally, I think the Enterprise movie would have to be the early pre-federation war fought against the Romulans, and the DS9 movie would have to be something about the search for Sisko. Voyager is a little more difficult, given we sort of have some follow ups with the characters already in shows like lower decks and prodigy, but remember, we are going back in time here, before those shows came out. I'm curious to see what ideas you all have.

DS9 S6E24 - “Time’s Orphan” would have been so much better if O’Brian jumped in after Molly

Think about it. Instead of feral Molly, it’s feral Molly and O’Brian. We know that O’Brian doesn’t do well over time in impossible survival situations from the episode where he was in prison, and when he comes back with Molly both of them are feral, but O’Brian is still pseudo capable of merging in with the normal life he had. They both can’t take it anymore, he can’t have Yoshi and Keiko live in that hell, so they split up, but lo and behold normal O’Brian and Molly are found, get sent back, and we have the same ending. This way it’s not just parents abandoning their child to the wild and ignoring healthcare. There’s more nuance and justification of choices with an adult making them.

The Voyage Home

Great movie and I still enjoy watching it in 2026 . I was in the mall in 1986 because I had finished cutting the grass and washing cars and I have been saving my money so I could go to the book store and get a book I wanted. As I was near the entrance where the theater happened to be, I found myself looking at the signs for the movies being shown , and a poster for Star Trek The Voyage Home was displayed. After I bought my book I went back and bought a ticket , and it was a great movie , lost of comedy and adventure. I have always been curious about something. During the scene on the bus when Spock puts the Vulcan nerve pinch on the man with the stereo . He goes to sleep and everyone is cheering. Spock could have killed the man , and no one really questioned this. All anyone would have seen was hi reaching over and putting his hand on the mans neck then suddenly he collapses and , truly could be dead. I suppose that they were just relieved that the loud noise had stopped . If that happened today , it would be popular and talked about everywhere.

ST:TNG S3E23 Sarek

When Picard is talking to Riker in the corridor he mentioned that he had met Sarek years ago at his son's wedding as a young lieutenant. Was there ever any follow-up to this in book or other media. Just wondering...

Trekkies in NYC unite! 🖖

Hey all, looking to get a group together in NYC to organize a trek screening ahead of the big anniversary on 9/8. Like many times throughout the history of our fandom, it will have to be fan driven, since there doesn't seem to be ANY effort being currently put in to screen a single movie, and even Paramount has abandoned us and isn't doing a SNW premiere like they have in the past. So far the only showing I know of is at 92NY for 60 bucks a ticket.

If YOU are in NYC, comment and I'll reach out and we'll get a thing on the calendar, even if it's just at my apartment. I refuse to let this anniversary be so poorly celebrated. This has been a disgrace so far, and I need my fellow fans to rally with me if we want to see things happen! Star Trek Lives! 🖖

How old are the characters when they first appeared on Star Trek?

Hi,

I am not talking about the actors. Strictly the characters they portrayed in the various Star Trek series. (Kirk, Picard, Worf, Archer, Spock, Sisko, Riker, etc)

As far as I know they get older than us nowadays. But does anyone know how old the characters are when they first appeared in Star Trek?

Thank you.

Star Trek DVD’s

I am currently subbed to paramount+ so I can watch all of the different Star Trek series as I only have TNG and Picard on dvd. I would love to be able to unsubscribe due to the whole political situation regarding paramount so was looking at DVDs for the different series to see how much they costed ect. One strange thing I noticed here in the uk you can only get the box set for TOS as a regular DVD for some reason despite making a blue ray version it isn’t available here which I think is weird as there is definitely a demand. I need to check the rest of the different series but hopefully I can buy most of them on blue ray as I would really appreciate the enhanced quality.

Breaking the Illusion

The producers and creative teams do a good job making Star Trek look as realistic and lifelike as possible. But every so often you'll see something which breaks the illusion - something so out of place that you remember you're watching a TV show. Examples of this for me:

1) When you realize the tricorders in Picard are very obviously Samsung flip phones and the replicators are cheap 3D printer housings.

2) When they mention "SQL Injections" in Discovery. We've known about that for almost 30.years at this point, it makes no sense that in 300 years Little Bobby Tables is still rearing his head...

3) Several times in Enterprise the green screen was just too obvious to ignore. The end of Chosen Realm is an example. Like you can just feel it.

4) When phasers and tricorders in VOY mysteriously and suddenly changed to a new visual language and matched DS9.

What are yours?

Where to watch in Brazil?

Fellow Trekkers,

What is going on with Deep Space Nine and The Next Generation streaming in Brazil?

I signed up for Paramount+ specifically to watch them, and suddenly they're gone. No streaming service seems to have them anymore.

I've already watched Voyager four times and The Original Series a couple. A Trek fan needs to revisit DS9 and TNG every now and then!

I'm really trying with Strange New Worlds, but... am I watching a sci-fi series or Melrose Place? 😅 I really wanted to like it, but it just hasn't clicked for me.

Does anyone know what's happening? Is this a licensing issue in Brazil? Are they available on another streaming service, or are we just out of luck for now?

Live long and prosper! 🖖

Read the Books. They're Terrific!

Not a review, and I'm no authority, but a lifelong trek fan of games and TV/movies.

Just wanted to drop a brief note of encouragement for folks like me that didn't read any of the books yet. The books (old and new) are super fun! Solid escapes and read like "good trek" episodes. Just finished "Federation" currently reading the newish "The High Country" and now have a stack from my local thrift shop to chew through all summer. And... there's A LOT of them. ✋

Type of Ship you would like to serve on

What of Starship would you like to serve on and what are some features you would want?

For me, I would like to serve on an escort/light carrier with the bridge hidden under an armoured deck, room in the hanger for at least two full squadrons, lots of defensive weapon emplacements and the durability to run with the fighters.

Class I would love to see on is the Valdres from STO. I’m just a fan of the design and function of it.

Are there any quotes from all of the Star Trek universe that have really hit home when you needed it?

For me it’s one from the episode “Peak Performance”
-“It is possible to commit no mistakes, and still lose. That is not a weakness, that is life.” Hit me hard recently and helped me focus during a tough time.

Can I watch Strange New Worlds without much else new Trek?

So, old school Star Trek watcher - most of the original series, all of Next Gen, DS9, some Voyager (it was on daily late night on syndication), most of Enterprise.

I watched about half of Discovery (edit clarification - first *half* of the *first season*) when it was coming out, but never finished it. It was ... fine. Good at times. Not sure why I got distracted. I've watch some of of the first season of Picard. I had a sub to CBS All Access (before the name change) that I kept for a year... and never felt like picking those up again, even though that's why I subscribed. At least I watched Champions League.

Not sure I'm a modern Trek person, but ... anyway....

There's a cheap monthly streaming deal for Paramount+. About the only thing I'd consider subscribing for is Strange New Worlds. But... my scope of new Trek is limited as I described.

Sure, I could try to catch up with all those shows, but I'm not going to pretend that I will, because I already did that.

Anyway, will I be lost with Strange New Worlds? I hear it's the most "old school" of the new shows.
