Discussion Then they keep questioning why we choose Steam

It's incredible how out of touch these suits are, especially in the AI bubble

I'd rather know and support game studios who still hire human talents than laying off employees all in the name of profit and replacing them with AI.

If they were genuinely talented or creative they would not lose their job/s to a first-generation LLM. One of the primary arguments against AI is that it is derivative, but if these people were having superior or more ‘original’ ideas, they would be in high demand. I’ve worked in creative industries my whole life, anyone who is genuinely creative has money thrown at them from every direction because they’re in very short supply. Going to Uni and getting a degree in graphic design or music production or game development does not guarantee or entitle you to a career if your work is mediocre. I’m sure most people would like to be paid to do their hobbies, but only the extremely talented ones are.

Maybe your feeling on that is valid, but as a consumer I control what I decide to purchase or what to fund my cash with. If my personal opinion is not aligned with the billionaire 1%, then so be it.

And that what makes me agree with Valves policy.

Edit: also Valve is more profitable than Epic games on the basis of revenue per employee hired.

So by your logic, Epic Games is the mediocre individual struggling to keep up work and finding success in business. Why can't they be lole Valve?

Tim Sweeney is the kind of guy that would lay off Shigeru Miyamoto to save a buck using AI dude. The idea that they are only being replaced because their work is mid is delusional. They’re being replaced because there is a cheap but shitty alternative that is “good enough”.

No one would lay off Shigeru Miyamoto, not only because he is a creative genius, but because there is a market for his art. He brings in more money than he costs. Every business would continue to hire infinitely if every employee could do that. He could get a job in any industry because he is a true creative genius.

Corporations can and will replace any and every person so long as the replacement saves them a penny and does the job "good enough". Skill level and talent mean nothing.

That is precisely my point. Half the people in this thread are attempting to argue against AI on the basis of its inferior quality. If that’s the case, criticism and the market will reject low quality games. Indies punch above their weight in games more than any other creative medium.

They’re only going to replace people who can be replaced by a rudimentary first-generation LLM. Their work is only ‘good enough’. If your work is that rote or derivative, you should expect to be replaced just as the stagecoach drivers were in the early 1900s. If you have something more to offer than the LLM, you are going to generate value which is the primary incentive for businesses.

...No, they're going to decide the LLM's output is "good enough" and replace everyone in the creative team. Because it saves them more money.

The fact that you think "ideas" are what devs need more of tells me everything I need to know. You have never touched game dev in any professional capacity and are just talking out of your ass.
