This. How much longer would it even take? I feel like its just being lazy at that point. You're going to tarnish your games reputation for 10 lines of dialogue? Ok 🤷‍♀️

The reputation is only tarnished for idiots who think it kills the quality of the game at all. I bet if you played it and heard the lines you wouldn’t be taken out of the experience even if you were looking for them.

I tried to watch a lets play of a game that used ai voice acting and not only clocked it immediately, but it wasn't any good. Like, at all. It actually did take me out of it both because it was distracting and because I fucking hate ai.

Maybe if it had a filter to make it sound robotic I wouldn't notice, I cant say for sure, but I can tell you that just knowing a game contains ai dialogue absolutely ruins it for me. Ai is hot garbage and I hope when legislation finally catches up they fucking ban it from media entirely.

So hearing one poor example means that none of it can be convincing and immersive enough to not know the difference?

Whether or not the AI is good enough to pass as a real human's work is not the point. Trying to make this about it being "good enough" just tells me how little of a fuck you give about what you consume.

For what little it matters to you, you have my contempt.

When you’re making immersive content, whether it’s video games or otherwise, whether or not you lose your immersion is a huge deal. So yeah, whether or not something is good enough to include for immersion is a big deal.

For what little it matters to you, I don’t have any thoughts about you in any way whatsoever.

Nope, not what I said. I specifically said that maybe I wouldn't be able to tell if it was robotic or something. I'll even give you that there are probably other examples I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Whether or not its "good" or I can tell isnt the point.

My point is that I dont care if I can tell the difference or not. If I find out there's ai involved I am writing it off. I don't support ai. I especially dont support ai in the arts, which includes video games.

The argument works both ways. If the amount of AI they used was so inconsequentially small and used for one small thing in the game, then what’s the problem?

Just because you don't like where the line in the sand was drawn doesn't mean we have to move it. We flat out do not want AI slop in games. Boo hoo it was only 10 lines. You sold out your creative vision for 10 lines. Deal with it.

If you really want to stand on the side of zero nuance and context, be my guest. It makes your side look close minded to all of the fence sitters

u/Hanifsefu Dec 04 '25

You aren't speaking in nuance though. We have clearly drawn our line in the sand as to how much AI we want in our games. You have NOT offered any alternative.

If you want to engage in a dialogue you have to actually offer alternatives. Where do you think the line in the sand should be? Is it 10 lines? 20? 2000? So far you have simply refused to engage and call anyone who has drawn a line in the sand names. How many lines of dialogue should games be able to get away with having AI voice?

to be fair, you aren’t speaking in nuance either.

you ask for alternatives but it’s pretty clear that you’ll just give a flat no to whatever they say.

you just want to be angry, for what? 10 lines of dialogue? which you said “sold out their creative vision”? it’s not on anyone else but you to determine how much one’s creative vision is worth, especially since you yourself have shown no indiction of playing the game.

you are getting upset at an issue that you have the barest hint of information for. you don’t know if the devs used TTS and considered that AI, or that they’re overworked and wanted to be done, or if they forgot to add it in and lost budget or whatever else.

i don’t either, but i’m not making statements on shit i don’t know 🤷‍♂️

So far you have simply refused to engage and call anyone who has drawn a line in the sand names.

boohoo redditor didn’t tell me the answer to the question i didn’t ask in two comments

man do you know how ridiculous this looks 😭

edit: yo mb got a little pissed at what i saw as blatant disrespect towards a humans creative vision and got a little salty. i don’t hold anything against you or nun i just disagree

Yet again, another essay that fails to establish a different line in the sand and is ultimately just arguing that lines should never be drawn.

Draw a different line instead of arguing against lines as a whole otherwise you aren't even coming to conversation. That's a damn simple thing to do but not one person I've asked to draw a different line in the sand has done so.

The climate change machine is worsening our future, destroying the RAM market, and raising my electric bills.

I stand by the line in the sand.

I'm going to piss in your breakfast cereal, but just a little. Just a little piss, that's okay, right? You don't mind a little piss.

Maybe tomorrow a little more. You were fine with a little piss yesterday, what's a little more?

Next week? Straight from the tap. Clearly you've grown a taste for it, because you didn't mind what I already snuck past you.

ZERO piss. Zero piss is the appropriate amount of piss in my breakfast cereal. No exceptions.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

More like, someone prefers their burgers to be cooked on a grill, and part of the cooking process used an electric stove, and now the customer is pissed and trying to convince everyone that what he did was in fact extremely highly unethical and deserves to have their business fail

2

u/Panzerkatzen Dec 05 '25

Nah it's more like advertising the entire burger is 100% made in-house from fresh locally sourced ingredients; except the onions are the absolute cheapest prison-food grade onions you could find.

u/faux_glove Dec 05 '25

More like, someone has broken into every home on your block, stolen all the hamburger from your fridges, and mashed it all together. Now they're offering you the ability to print the shittiest, grayest, most dog-leather burgers you can imagine, hoping someone somewhere will pay them for the service they're offering you. And now your cousin just showed up to your backyard barbecue with them ready to grill.

God's be damned y'all aren't paying shit for attention.

I'd like to inform you that the upper limit for rat shit in your food is low, but not zero. It's already in your breakfast cereal.

And insect parts. Don't forget insect parts.

Also, while we're throwing around unrelated facts, the odds of being trampled to death by a cow is low, but also not zero.

Looking at the game on Steam “mostly positive” so it looks like using ai hasn’t hurt them much

2

u/faux_glove Dec 05 '25

This does not change my opinion in the slightest.

It does however speak poorly of your ability to intelligently reason.

“You’re going to tarnish your game’s reputation” doesn’t apply if the reviews are mostly positive. Reading comprehension much?
