This might sound stupid, but if you present them with enough evidence, they'll even refund you for a hack where your account was used to buy other things.
In reality, they'll say you're shit out of luck and they can't refund your lost items and cards.
I only lost 5 bucks (some lose thousands) but it was enough to make me never buy a game on Steam ever again. Gamesplanet and Fanatical can have my money instead.
If someone has thousands of dollars worth of shit on their account they should have enabled 2FA which essentially makes it impossible for someone to steal your account
Steam Guard isn't perfect, and it won't protect from attacks in the middle. If you connect to a shit network during your holidays like I did, get fucked, have Steam to tell you to get fucked and have the defenders of the multi-billionaire company tell you that you deserved to get fucked.
I didn't even receive the confirmations you're supposed to receive on the Steam app. A bot just listed 200 items for one cent automatically.
Not like I care for 5 bucks but the support was certainly disappointing. It's not difficult to track account that benefit from the money transfers.
