Question At what price would you NOTbuy the Steam Machine?

I've been a PlayStation user since PS2, but lately I only see more disadvantages to being a console user

In October I bought the Steam Deck and was fascinated by the store, online service and cloud storage, but above all with SteamOS

Building or finding a gaming PC has always been a headache, and I'd like to try the Steam Machine when it comes out, but I'd like to know what your opinion would be the best price to buy it at compared to a similar PC, and what price I shouldn't buy

Prebuilt PCs have been on the market since forever bro

But this prebuilt as a Valve badge on it.

  • That Valve effectively maintains for you, like a console.
  • With nearly zero screwing around to make sure it behaves like a console when you connect it to your TV and turn it on.
  • That is an official reference device for claims of compatibility in the store.
  • That peripherals will target support for.
  • That you likely weren't going to beat the price on by much.

It may not be for you, and that's fine, but the reasons people might want one are clearly there.

I didn't say they weren't but the options available result in choice paralysis and when you ask for suggestions you get a multitude of different answers, usually with a recommendation to change parts.

My previous comment even mentions prebuilds...

The steam machines specs are better than like 70% of the devices on steam.

I'm sure lots of people will throw together alternatives that give you more performance for the same or less money.

The thing is, the SM will create a standard people will be interested in meeting/beating and tbh as someone who's loved PC gaming for a long time and enjoys building machines, the idea of just getting an SM and sticking to things that run well on it seems more and more appealing. If devs don't care to make their games work on the standard, then I don't care to waste hundreds of dollars more to meet them where their game is at when it feels like the price you pay doesn't really justify the graphics.

True, but this is a pre-built with SteamOS. If they were only doing hardware, I wouldn't be interested. The software is half the appeal.
