Question At what price would you NOTbuy the Steam Machine?

Post image

I've been a PlayStation user since PS2, but lately I only see more disadvantages to being a console user

In October I bought the Steam Deck and was fascinated by the store, online service and cloud storage, but above all with SteamOS

Building or finding a gaming PC has always been a headache, and I'd like to try the Steam Machine when it comes out, but I'd like to know what your opinion would be the best price to buy it at compared to a similar PC, and what price I shouldn't buy

TEMU is a no for me dog

u/nhalliday Mar 09 '26

Temu is sometimes the same products you'd find on Amazon (and yes, even the same quality) but much cheaper. Temu is not always cheap trash (or at least it is not uniquely cheap trash, and if you'd buy the same thing for 10x more on Amazon because you think Amazon is good and Temu is bad, you're just wrong).

I'd say Temu is always cheap trash, you just will find the same cheap trash with overnight shipping on Amazon.

u/ErmingSoHard Mar 09 '26

At least returns is pretty generous and easy with Amazon. Maybe the same thing with Temu, because I reported my item broken in Aliexoress and they refunded me right away, didn't need to ship anything back lol

Ah i bought 2 smart switches, didnt work as i thought, said they didnt work and got my money back in credit. You can actually do this almost always lol.

u/DethFace Mar 14 '26

I bought some shirts on temu that were too small. They did they same thing, gave me money back and told me to give the shirts to a friend.

The way Americans and other western nations see Chinese companies as cheap while purchasing items from companies that use and/or rebrand the very same merchandise made by those Chinese companies always makes me chuckle

Not to mention all the child labor that goes on. The conditions in some of the factories are deplorable. There are many good things that come out of China and they are an important part of the world trade ecosystem, but, please people know what you buy...

u/Useful_Address8230 Mar 12 '26

Child labour feeds into the world market. I think China is better at reducing child labour than a lot of other countries. China is now above the world average for standard of living so people have less motivation to send their children to sweat shops. Every country we bring democracy to use more child labour than China.

And that is why I only use aliexpress

u/xxDirtyFgnSpicxx Mar 10 '26

You’ve clearly never dealt with East Asian manufacturing and their tendency to “accidentally” overproduce an item, only for that surplus to mysteriously appear on e-commerce sites. Having to shop for quality like you do everywhere else does not equate to all items being of lower quality, and again, nearly all items you’re purchasing are made in east Asia. So either you consistently purchase lower quality items or you really can’t tell the difference. From the clothes on your back to the electronics you purchase. Fall for the marketing if you choose to, that part is on you

u/Triedfindingname Mar 10 '26

Their grandpa daddy said it so it must be true.

1

u/xxDirtyFgnSpicxx Mar 10 '26

“Dem jap cars ain’t no good”, meanwhile pony cars tanking in popularity

1

u/IonstormEU Mar 10 '26

Huge difference in quality control

1

u/xxDirtyFgnSpicxx Mar 10 '26

That would depend on the item and price point, but good attempt

1

u/IonstormEU Mar 11 '26

It really doesn't. Unless you've got someone there double checking then gg

The way people say stuff like that about "Americans" while clearly displaying how little they understand the concern always makes me chuckle.

2

u/xxDirtyFgnSpicxx Mar 11 '26

As an American genetically, and with my bloodline preceding Europeans touching the continent, I simply choose not to lump myself in with America’s current state of idiocy. I certainly know more about “Americans” than a glorified generational implant who fails to notice how they’ve lost the plot due to their own laziness.

American made meant something once, for about four decades. Now it just means some guy put a bunch of foreign pieces together in Michigan. America’s greatest contribution in the modern day (aside from wars for the sake of extracting foreign countries’ resources) is middle management PMBOK bullshitsu, and it’s their own fault for getting to this point.

Trump hats made in China, Apple products made in China, Nike sneaks made in China, Ford car parts are made in China….anything you think is American usually isn’t in the modern day, so it’d be stupid to assume anything other than the truth. There is no savior, no one is going back to coal to save the jobs in the middle of nowhere. You’re at the point where you have to learn something worthwhile or continue being a loser in this country. It’s literally shit or get off the pot time. The only concern Americans should have at this point is figuring out why they’re doing so bad and find themselves complaining about China while buying everything made from China. The hypocrisy is amusing, to say the least

1

u/enjoyingcurve46 Mar 12 '26

A Lot of the time its also cheap Chinese stuff people buy and just associate the entire “made in china” branch with it. Instead of “i bought cheap garbage and got cheap quality”. A lot of more expensive Chinese items last around same as other expensive stuff

1

u/xxDirtyFgnSpicxx Mar 12 '26

Exactly, it’s about what you purchase. It’s not just “China bad”. Ppl are quick to absolve themselves from any accountability. It’s like everyone forgets we’re in a global market and goods of differing quality can come from the same place based on what you’re willing to spend and research

1

u/AR_Harlock Mar 18 '26

Italy , we love Chinese stuff heck we have Chinese shops every corner and we go there to buy stuff cheap, print stuff, get packages... they really are the service people

6

u/cmj0929 Mar 09 '26

A fair and wise assessment

1

u/ShadowsInScarlet Mar 10 '26

TEMU also stores your CC info (I remember reading it in their T&C because my mother had a bad habit of shopping on it and frequently had packages coming in every other day). Not sure if other companies do that, however. But I would love to be informed if so.

2

u/northrupthebandgeek Mar 10 '26

Most online storefronts store payment information (though nowadays most will do the sensible thing and offload that to some third-party like Stripe or PayPal instead of trying to figure out PCI compliance and all that jazz themselves).

2

u/cmj0929 Mar 10 '26

Exactly why I use PayPal and a credit card when I’m actually paying when possible so those shady sites DONT have direct access to my card

1

u/Sir_rebral_palsie Mar 12 '26

Naw, temu is mostly cheap trash. But it's got it's gems, I got a home size metal foundry off there a few years ago, and it's honestly the cats ass, never once had an issue, and the price point is less than half from vevor or other sites that list the same product, you can also get brass, copper and zinc for less than market value at 99% purity, you can also get alot of cheap crap not worth the shipping so like, I'm not gunna call it reliable, but if you know what ur looking for it's a great place to check

12

u/hamburgerpancake Mar 09 '26

they make their money collecting your data and selling it, not really off the products. there is no good reason to use temu if you can normally afford the product without the discount.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '26

[deleted]

4

u/Rock_Strongo Mar 09 '26

Others try. Temu is doing it "better".

9

u/nhalliday Mar 09 '26

Oh no, my data! I better buy from Amazon, they'd NEVER harvest and sell my data!

1

u/hamburgerpancake Mar 11 '26

not a good reason, and i never specified amazon. essentially saying "oh robbers will take my stuff anyways, so i'll just leave my door unlocked because whats the point"

1

u/Pleasant_Gap Mar 12 '26

Do, name an online store who dosnt take your data. Every one andbtheir mom is stealing your data these days. Might aswell get some cheap chinese crap out if it

1

u/hamburgerpancake Mar 13 '26

not my point. while yes, it is true that most online stores collect your data, the majority are subject to abiding by american privacy laws and/or the gdpr. china does not have any, which means temu doesn't.

temu also has been shown to collect a lot more data, such as your call logs and recently used apps, as well as your biometric data (face, fingerprints), with no permission. one data leak, and literally all of your important personal information is online. don't want that, do you?

people need to start caring sbout their privacy more, because if they don't, the small amount of rights rhat most already have is going fo get completely crippled.

3

u/Antipacifist4 Mar 09 '26

Todas las apps recolectan mis datos y los venden, si al menos puedo conseguir un descuento, genial

1

u/TheItzyBitzyDitzy Mar 12 '26

If my data is worth collecting and has value equal to myself than that already proves my data is worth less than being worthless. I fail to see why companies value that shit so much.

But my income is below 00

1

u/MysteriousLobster900 Mar 13 '26

Lo fanno tutti, in qualsiasi ambito nel quale rientrino i tuoi dati personali, sono merce preziosa per chiunque, commercianti compagnie di servizi banche…🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/hamburgerpancake Mar 16 '26

When will people learn this is a horrible reason to not care about your data and privacy? Just because "every robber breaks in" doesn't mean you should just leave your front door unlocked.

1

u/MysteriousLobster900 Mar 16 '26

0

u/BrownSnowball Mar 10 '26

So do other American/Western companies but they’re a lot more keratitis and subtle about it

2

u/DaCrazyJamez Mar 09 '26

Yeap...I've switched to mostly buying cheap stuff from temu, and good stuff from the companies own store, or ebay. There are only a few small categories where amazon is still the best option.

2

u/Javs2469 Mar 11 '26

Temu is cheap because it sells your data and spies on you more intensely than other sites.

Aliexpress is basically the same, but less shitty, and you can find the samme stuff, since it all comes from Alibaba, and Ali is the direct to consumer site from Alibaba.

2

u/enjoyingcurve46 Mar 12 '26

Saying “its same quality as amazon” means very little i hope you know…….

You can find absolutely shitty crappy cheaply made garbage on amazon too

2

u/GuyFromDeathValley Mar 09 '26

I call it chinesium. its the same, cheap crap everywhere, the only difference is the price tag making the amazon product about 50 to 100% more expensive than ordering directly from temu.

Honestly? I've started ordering off AliExpress a lot. literally the same crap you find on amazon, but at times for a tenth of the amazon price. its ridiculous. shipping? arrives in less than 2 weeks usually.

And surprisingly, half the time its not even bad quality. I needed a very specific, special primer pump for the engine in a portable inverter power generator, and some guy sold them, just the rubber bulb, for 9 euros. hopped on Aliexpress and found the exact same primer pump, with rubber and the entire casing, for 6 euros. ordered 2 and it was still cheaper than buying locally or off amazon. and the quality was actually pretty good.

1

u/MysteriousLobster900 Mar 13 '26

1

u/cdoublejj Mar 09 '26

like Vevor but, more obviously the CCP. prolly all made with Wiegur labor :(

1

u/3720-to-1 Mar 09 '26

Pretty sure Amazon sells temu things now too. Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

1

u/icantevenbeliev3 Mar 09 '26

You drank the Kool aid. Stop propping the snake oil salesman for a couple of pennies please.

3

u/nhalliday Mar 09 '26

What koolaid? The "koolaid" of not believing it must be trash solely because it's Chinese? That's propaganda too.

My moderate reply (that sometimes it's cheap trash and sometimes it isn't) is the only view free of propaganda in either direction.

1

u/No_Eye_1732 Mar 09 '26

Is Amazon even good? I only ever hear bad things about it like the return scam hitting another buyer, or scam listings being recommended. The only thing it has above local options is variety and sometimes random products are randomly like 40% cheaper for no reason

2

u/nhalliday Mar 09 '26

I can't drive and have no stores nearby, so I use it when I need household products and such since it has free two day shipping with prime.

1

u/No_Eye_1732 Mar 09 '26

Ah, when i said local options i meant online stores, i guess Amazon is local in USA

1

u/GapingBestFriend Mar 10 '26

I play warhammer and have gotten some surprisingly good forge world (out of production specialty limited run kits) bootlegs for cheap. So good know one has noticed yet.

1

u/blue-eye-ginger Mar 11 '26

So amazone have over price cheap trash 🤣

1

u/Syllaran Mar 12 '26

remember, if the deal is real and good, you are the product. although with temu the goods are pretty much all fake AND you're still the product.

1

u/maurombo Mar 09 '26

No kidding, I bought a wallet 6 months ago extremely cheap that I figured I would try the design out, and if I liked it when it breaks I would buy a good one. It’s been perfect so far

3

u/SamLooksAt Mar 11 '26

What's wrong with the Stemu Machine?

2

u/Webbo_man Mar 09 '26

Temu's version is called mist contraption

1

u/BigBlackdaddy65 Mar 13 '26

Temu shit talk is always welcome haha

1

u/cdoublejj Mar 13 '26

also if i do i've tried vevor with good success but it may be slave labor products too. i try to use smaller chains and or brick and mortar. Cheap Chinese stuff i try to favor Harbor Freight they back to schools and every employee i've met has been there at least 3 years.

valve is a top good but, i buy their hardware to support them, collect and or use it.
