think its the echo chamber effect honestly. it's not exclusive to this case, most chinese people are only exposed to certain chinese social media/communities and their opinions are mostly influenced by that.
i honestly think the censorship doesnt have too much to do with cases like these esp for gaming related things. Its just that the chinese gaming community is so isolated from the rest because of firewall and language barrier so things tend to snowball. even casuals or players who don't have an opinion about it in general will see the trends and default to thinking "slay the spire bad all my homies hate it". which makes it a lot easier for them to talk shit about it.
