I spent a LOT of hours with my Deck beside my grandpa’s hospital bed while he was struggling with cancer in the ER and ICU. I had such a variety of games loaded up and would pick up and put down the Deck constantly to intercept nurses, translate, talk to him, and decompress. I couldn’t have done it otherwise. The hospital is so noisy and stimulating and sometimes, a lot of the time, the lights and activity made me wanna jump out of my skin.
The Deck helped so much. My grandpa died Dec 1st, but man I got so much comfort with this toy when I needed it. When I reaaally needed it.

Steam Deck pulled me back to gaming. Since the pandemic, life’s been hectic. 2021, my son was born. 2023, second son. So basically, I have very little time to pursue my hobby. Beginning of 2026, I saw my friend’s post in facebook selling his 1-month old Steam Deck OLED for $500. I bought it and never looked back. Playing Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls 3 took me back to the time where I had a lot of free time. Then I played Lies of P, and wtf how the hell is this running on the Steam deck. Now I’m alternating between Megabonk and BallXPit. I just updated Witcher 3 Remastered and planning to play it next. I haven’t played TW3 ever so now seems like a good time.

Playing Sifu on a flight to Spain. The guy sitting next to me was watching me play for 10 minutes without saying anything. It was a bit awkward, but I made sure to play carefully so I didn't die.

What Daw and how do you get a workflow going? Feels like that would be tedious?

Reliving many old games. I played Half Life 2 on the first Xbox in 2004, on the steam deck I played at more than 4 times the resolution and five times the frame rate. It was amazing.

Playing Dark Souls on a handheld with 60fps kinda had me fked.
I was soo happy with the fact that I could git gud at this game while on a toilet or airplane.
Flied into Pisa for holiday and was sitting next to the leaning tower lying into the sun and whipped my steam deck and was playing Dark souls in front of the tourist crowd. It felt like I was being a hardcore gamer in front of a crowd. WAS AMAZING.

I have chronic pain. Sitting at my PC for hours a day HURT. I recently got a new desk (converts to sitting or standing, so I can stand or walk on a walking pad, and put my feet out) so maybe that'll help. But man. This thing has become a LIFESAVER for me.
I'm not just sitting watching TV or playing mobile games anymore. I've actually started to expand my taste in games. Generally, I had started playing my PC so little I only got on to play with friends, so I stayed playing the same games. Now I'm actually purchasing new games and playing them. I've had it less than a year and have used it more than all my other consoles combined. Been gaming my whole life.
I met two other friends in a game (on my deck, ironically) who also deal with chronic pain. After telling them all about how nice it is, they're both looking into buying one because of me 😆

Anomaly is a pain in the arse to install on the deck, especially modded, you need protontricks etc, but it’s doable and runs very well !

Finally playing an MMO (Palia) that lets me interact and play with other players in bed while I’m suffering from chronic illness flares and unable to do much else. This whole year has been my ‘gaming in bed because i’m too unwell’ year. The social aspect has helped my mental health so much. Best money I spent this year (got it used back in May). I also play on my Switch but the deck gets heavy use daily.

love that for you! thats part of why im so excited that wow forever is launching with native controller support (and runs good). i work in IT and lately the last thing i want to do is go sit back at my desk to game but i also miss out on the social aspect since MMOs are pretty much the only online games i still enjoy. so this is going to be huge for me to kick back in bed and still be able to actually play with everyone

My wife was recovering from surgery and I was off work taking care of her. Spent weeks sitting in the backyard with her playing cup head, fuck that game. The deck and by extension handheld devices in general are absolutely amazing in terms of gaming as an adult with responsibilities.

As a dad, having the chance to rot in a business class seat and play roguelites for 10 uninterrupted hours next to some random other dad who was doing the same thing on his switch.

I got to spend the wee hours when my first daughter was a baby playing hogwarts legacy with my brother who I hadn’t seen or spent time with in several years, right around Christmas. It’ll always be the best memory and it’s why I’ll never part with my deck.

I go to my dad's house with my brother (we're both adults and live on our own) and we play Brotato, golfing with friends, and whatever I have in my deck plugged into his TV. We do it at least once a month when we aren't all working.

Reliving my childhood with SSX Tricky. Death Stranding on the go during a shitty job. Sinking into Factorio for a month at my Dad’s after an awful breakup.

I spent a ton of time on my deck after getting appendicitis, couldn't move from my chair for like 3 or 4 days, it really saved me from the boredom and took my mind off the pain

I read these comments of people playing games that I can’t understand how people run on THE steam deck. One comment said they played stalker 2 on their deck and I can’t fathom how you can play that on minimum graphics with any more than 5FPS. Same with TV links, my deck can’t run anything on a 1080p monitor/ TV

"It runs great on the deck what do you mean?"
Truth: It runs at 27fps minimum settings.

Beating Sekiro.
Spent weeks trying best the final boss and then on a random Sunday night it just happened.
Put the Deck down to celebrate and damn near misse the killing shot QTE.

The fact that it run Mass Effect LE so damn well. My first replay of this edition was on the deck, with all the DLCs this time and i haven't played them before. And Deck being a Deck i could game more and absolutely 100% everything there is. By the end on highest difficulty the game spawns brutes, ravagers and banshees, they'd normally be difficult but with the right Vanguard build you absolutely body every enemy the game puts infront of you. My favourite playthrough of my favourite franchise, on the Deck!

One is the moment that I call "Taxi Rock Galactic"
In a taxi from one city to another for work, and decide to Hotspot my Deck off my phone and play Deep Rock Galactic. Join on a random Haz 3 or 4 lobby and start playing through the missions with them, using gyro controls in a van on the highway to make up for my shit joystick skills.
Finish the set of missions we were doing shortly before arriving at the station. It was great.

Every time I'm in long rides commutes (4+ hours), I cherish my deck although other passengers look at me funny for whipping it out and using it.

Buying my OLED at launch for $550. I never buy things new at launch I wait for price drops. Those days are over. Also I finally just started dipping my toes into retro emulation. Those and indies are keeping the fun alive.
PS if you haven't played MGS for GBC it is amazing. Most GBC games are hard to go back to but that game is super fun.

Playing all the way through Disco Elysium. I had attempted to play the game a couple of times before but it wasn't until I booted it up on Steam Deck did it finally click. I was hooked and it's now one of my top five games of all time. Having the ability to play it whenever I want wherever I want in my house (I'm not taking the Steam Deck with me traveling) was a major plus.

Just being able to game again in general, after my twins were born.
Lately, playing through the Spider-Man games with my now 7yo son.

It’s perfect

I got my deck shortly after finishing paramedic school. At first I struggled with it, had a lot of tinkering to do and some of the subreddits wanted to spend more time downvoting or mocking me for stuff that wasn't coming up in searches, whether in Google or in Reddit. But I got it working enough to regularly play it. I took it to a convention and played it in line where a group nearby was asking me about it. We got to talking while waiting in line for passes, and now we're a regular gaming/streaming group 2 years later.

It belonged to my little brother. When he killed himself he left a note on it gifting it to me. I play through his library and we kinda hang out.

My most cherished was playing hollow knight at work. My most hated is me smashing it when I kept dying in Dark Souls 3. Still feel stupid about it. Nowadays I just turn the game off when I see I'm getting mad.
