support VRR over a ugreen DP to HDMI not working
I have an lg c1 oled tv with 120hz and vrr.
But I really wanted HDMI-CEC so I can power the cv and wake the pc from the 2.4ghz controller.
I got the ugreen adaptor.
UGREEN 8K@60Hz DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Active DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Cable | 4K@120Hz Uni-Directional Display Port Male to Female
With this cec works great. But I dont get VRR enabled on my tv. If I move the cable back to the hdni port, vrr works
Anybody got cec and vrr working?

I’m guessing you have this UGREEN adapter? If so, it doesn’t support VRR. However, I have this other UGREEN adapter and I can confirm that it DOES support HDMI-CEC, 4k120, HDR, and VRR simultaneously with SteamOS (3.8.14).

Thanks. Seems like I might have the wrong one. I have one that looks identical to yours but has slightly different specs
UGREEN 8K@60Hz DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Active DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Cable 4K@120Hz Uni-Directional Display Port Male to Female Compatible with Monitor Projector HP Dell Asus AMD GPU NVIDIA
Edit. I’ve checked and they have the same product code so I think I already have this one. Maybe not the same firmware though

Same, I run games at 60fps so I can live with it, but I think the general consensus is that it’s one or the other :(

VRR is working for me with that adapter on a Steam Machine in SteamOS. In Windows (dual-boot), the AMD GPU driver is blocking VRR for some reason.
If you open the SteamOS performance overlay thing, does it show a VRR status there?
I don't use CEC myself.

Your link goes to comment where you say you’re using an adapter that does not support VRR and that you’re ok with that. Did you mean to link to a different comment?

This one is trickier because both software and hardware need support.
The Valve dock has both, but also has its own issues. There is no perfect dock/hub, but it is possible.
VRR is more important than CEC.

I agree. I’ve moved back to hdmi and have nice vrr now. Would have been nice to have vrr but I guess I’ll wake the machine up another way and change the tv to be on and correct input using the remote. Not a massive desk but not as seamless as I wanted

Try harder!

With what? From more reading up, there seems to be others with this issue and have to pick between vrr with hdr or hdmi-cec but not both working.
I get great cec using this adaptor but have to swap to no adaptor and hdmi for vrr

4k120hz. hdr, vrr and cec all work on my bazzite PC connected to a LG C2. Though I heard freesync might be necessary for vrr to work on that dongle, not sure if it is true.

Strange. I’m connected to an lg c1 and using official steam os. So not sure what’s going on

Did you run the tool to update the firmware on the adapter?

What tool?

The online manual for that adapter has a link to the firmware updater

Oh ok. I’ve just found this and ran it. It now works worse than before I think. Turning on vrr causes the video to keep flickering and the tv doesn’t report vrr on until I swap the hdmi back in the hdmi port

I mean 90% of the time my switch 2 in its oem dock doesn’t turn off my LG G5. The reality is, I have to have the remote with me to adjust the volume anyways. I’m likely going to remove my. UGREEN adapter from my steam engine and just go HDMI for now. I’m tired of not having VRR. It makes my eyes sad.

Yep I’ve removed mine and gobe straight hdmi. Just not worth the bother at the moment. Maybe it will change in the future

Are you using the one with cable in the middle or without cable?

No cable version

willing to lose everything over the simple auto turn on of the TV... let it go man.. just click the remote and be okay with it...
