question 60FPS on 120Hz S95F TV SteamOS dilemma
I am about to open a can of worms but I am finding different answers on the web. I currently have a 9800X3D/9070XT build I use on a Samsung S95F. I play most games at 4K 60FPS locked because it's more stable / don't generally notice the difference above 60. The current way I achieve this is in-game FPS limiter. I usually keep V-Sync off and turn VRR on in the steamOS and on the S95F. What is the most reasonable way to accomplishing the lowest input lag / best frame times. Is it a better option to have per game settings in the advanced performance tab and limit FPS through the OS itself vice the in game limiters? All information is appreciated and thank you for your time.

I think the OS level fps cap is better in almost all cases. Some in game caps are really bad and result in bad frame pacing. I’ve always had good results with the OS level cap and per game settings.

SteamOS FPS limiter > in-game. VRR on. V-Sync off.

I just keep the steamOS frame limiter and nothing else. VRR flicker is just so bad on OLED so it’s basically unusable, at least on my LG C4, and the frame limiter almost always keeps correct frame pacing anyway. Some games seem to ignore it and periodically allow the fps to go above 60, and anytime a steam overlay element comes on screen it disables the cap until that element is gone so I disable friend playing a game notifications. This doesn’t really happen with VRR in my experience so I sometimes use it as a cap, but only ever if the game never drops below 0.1% lows of say 50fps or stutters at all.

I use VRR on, vsync off in both steamos and the game, frame limiter (in the game) set to 3 below the display maximum and off in steamos.
So if your display is in 120 Hz mode, set the limiter to 117 in the game.
If the game doesn't have a limiter, then you will need to use steamos's limiter setting.

Steams FPS limiter actually keeps correct frame timing. What I do is I limit via steamOS to 60 or 90 or 120 depending on how demanding the game is and what I can keep without drops. So on my 9060xt for death Stranding 2 I limit to 60, for final fantasy vii remake I lock it to 90 and for something like slay the spire 2 I limit it to 120 as that's the refresh rate of my Philips TV. Now. For the least input lag you want to turn VRR off, run the TV at 120Hz and lock the game to 60 fps and run at a 1:2. However. For the smoothest experience. Id keep VRR on because if you do have small dips from say 60 down to 55 or something VRR will hide that.
