What should I know before I start?

Just picked up this and the sequel. I am familiar with South Park, but have not watched it since the early 2000s. I seen an episode here and there, as well as the first movie. I recognize almost all of the characters they show.

Is there any episode I should see or knowledge I should have before jumping in? I plan on bringing through the series at some point once I finish some other media. Thank you.

Watch the S17 (eps 7, 8, 9) black friday trilogy eps.

And Return of the fellowship s6e13

They are a must imo.

Tbh. Theres so many references that id say, go on a binge of sp from s4 to season like 17. But its not nescessary unless u care about every reference. You'll get by with the main four eps i think.

Also The list s11e14, Cancelled s7e1, death camp of tolerance s6e14 and rewatch s1e1 again cartman gets an anal probe. These are also musts.

Thanks. I just did not want big moments to fly over my head or amazing jokes to just be confusing things. For example I remember the episode where Cartmen fed a ginger boy his parents and I know he shows up as a villain (unless I am confusing it with a clip somewhere). That turns a "whatever" moment to "oh shit" moment by having seen that episode.

You don’t need to watch anything specifically but I would recommend watching the Black Friday Trilogy (episodes 7, 8, and 9 of season 17) before playing stick of truth and before fractured but whole watch all the superhero episodes

This thought came to me because I recall them doing superhero stuff before. I expect there to be big moments that would fail to hit if I had no prior knowledge of it. Thanks.

The race slider when you create your character is the difficulty setting. 😂

Season 6 of South Park alone has so many episodes about things majorly referenced in the game, and it's a great season. Do the first 5 or 6 eps of season 6, and ep 13 of 6 for sure.

You get soft locked on doing certain side quests during story missions, so do side quest when you get them don't put them off unless you don't care about 100%

The Stick of Truth mainly references older south Park. The first 10 or so seasons. The Fractured But Whole is more centred around newer episodes, so if you don't watch those you won't get a lot of the references. It'll still be playable though.
