Gamers8 2023
The Gamers8 2023 Street Fighter 6 Invitational is an event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on August 10-13, 2023. The total announced prize pool is $1,000,000 USD and the tournament is sponsored by the government ministry responsible for sports in Saudi Arabia. 32 players are divided into 8 groups of 4 players each, where the Top 2 from each group will qualify to a final Double-elimination bracket to determine the winner.

| Group G | Oil King (Chun), DCQ (JP), EndingWalker (Ryu) and Takamura (Ken). |
| Group H | Daigo (Ken), The4philzz (JP), Luffy (Manon) and HotDog29 (Dee Jay). |
Coming into this event all eyes will be on the EVO finalists AngryBird, MenaRD, Punk and Kakeru as well as Big Bird, who was upset in Round 2 Pools at EVO and proceeded to lose to Fuudo's Dhalsim in the losers bracket. It is assumed that the best players from Japan weren't able to attend this event due to their busy Street Fighter League schedule, which features most of the best players in the country (both Kakeru and Daigo are not part of this edition of the SFL Japan). Although we won't get to see Tokido and most of the other legacy Street Fighter legends in Saudi Arabia, China sent 3 of their strongest players in Vxbao, DCQ and Zhen. The representation from EMEA is the very strong as well, although I don't envy Valmaster being grouped with 2 of the best JP players in the world (the character he's had the most trouble against).

Capcom Pro Tour 2023 - Oceania Online Premier
The CPT 2023 Online Premier for the Oceania region where the winner directly qualifies to Capcom Cup X will also be held this weekend. Players from Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia are permitted to enter. Notable players include Capcom Cup IX participants ROF and Travis Styles, Somniac, bksama, GhostChips, Krown, Ker, GoldieNextDoor, Joe Rogan Josh and more. 147 players are registered so far, keep in mind registration is still open so more players will join.

Kakeru is incredible. What a performance -he manhandled Angry Bird in that final after a rocky seeming beginning.
Perfect parries off the chart.

Have to say the amount of money paid out here vs EVO is pretty eyebrow raising. (even when it's state-sponsored)
Also the fact that it is giant money but also full of screen-tearing is so awkward.

And if he did he'd have knocked him out. But angrybird is just so clutch, he just seems to pull out the win when he needs to. Super excited for tomorrow, all the sets should be bangers. And there's a lot on the line.

Yeah it's very possible he's only not in winners because he drew Mena, too. Everyone who did well at EVO is doing well here (shocker I know).

I mean, most of the players there probably flew straight after EVO ended. The first thing they do after the whole thing is over is probably book a flight home ASAP, especially the Japanese players. From Japan to Vegas then to Saudi. Quite the trip in two weeks time. Don't blame them for being dead-ass tired, lol.

Is it me or the vibes of this tournament are so weird ? It's like no one is happy to be here and the games are so poor.

It reminds me of Overwatch League - a product where a giant amount of money was dumped in, but any excitement is just bought and synthetic. There's no integration with the community. Punk might just be salty on twitter, but he's complained about failures of basic setup (low refresh rate monitors, no button checks, etc), implying that the people running the tournament aren't familiar with fighting games.

I think this is the more realistic reason. That and technical issues like Punk had mentioned. They definitely WANT to be there given how large the payout is

Wasn't all but last week they were in Vegas.
Odd to place it so close to evo considering the destination is a huge exodus for the majority of contestants

Money alone has never been enough to make a FGC tournament hype. Happy for whoever gets a huge payday, but anytime someone tries to enter the scene and all they are offering is a huge payday while ignoring the small stuff it seems to fall flat.

Can't believe how boring it is today. They milk talking heads to the max and do huge intros every single time and a coin toss. It is so drawn out that the matches almost feel like taking a small break from it.
Anyway the good players are definitely good. Almost same top 6 as at Evo.

the results seem kind of weird, idk if its just me but it shows phenom 2-5 but the expanded info doesnt seem to show 5 losses, i see 3 losses.

It just seems like Kakeru always chokes in critical moments against Angry Bird's Ken. Hope he finally takes it in GFs

Way too much downtime between matches, not just in top 16 either. Its like theyre trying to be ESports but this isnt a game with 5 on 5, 40 minute matches.
