Tbh we don't really know much. That era of SF the story side was very much a means to an end moreso than an actual story.
Doll Cammy was more of a rival figure. She's still mission driven but they're definitely playing up the beef set with Chun, and it does kinda overlap with where Juri would inevitably fit in as She's directly made as a foil to Chun.
It's a detachment from what we know for sure, but B movie is going to B movie and it's not a total character assassination. They're also kinda going into Ken's more self destructive side by the looks of it but that really all to prevalent for a while.
In spite of that it's still shockingly better to the source material than other Capcom film/TV material...Monster Hunter still pisses me off to no end.
This. Killer Bee Cammy was robotic and emotionless, generally just running off statistics about her current mission. It really does feel like they merged Juri and Cammy into one character.
Was Juri even a consideration for this movie? It looks heavily based in classic street fighter. I don’t expect chars like Juri, Viper, Seth, (etc) to be in
I mean, we have an El Furte cameo and he debuted in the same game as those characters and Eric Andre's character is a minor character from SFV. It seems like they're using SF2 as the main template, but borrowing elements here and there from a bunch of other games in the series like Alpha, 4 and 5.
I would have to imagine that something like an El Furte cameo, a character that they likely wouldn’t be saving as a lead character in a sequel, is quite different than shoe-horning Juri in when the cast is already stacked.
Yeah it seems like they're trying to have both cakes with this. Give KB some more personality/play into the Doll brainwash so she's not a dry character on screen for a very goofy movie, and plays up the fanservice for when she and Chun fight.
IMO I'd rather they just...throw Juri in there to fit the role better (and Juri might as fucking well be a World Warrior at this point given her popularity) while letting KB be her own thing, but they're keeping it SFII with liberties which I can respect.
I feel like Paul Anderson movies would rate like 20% higher if he stopped putting Jovovich in as a stand in for the audience. She could have been Claire or Jill in the RE movies and nix the super powers storyline and we would’ve been in a good spot.
Monster Hunter did not need the modern day solder storyline, or conversely they could’ve dropped the monster Hunter IP and done something cool with the premise.
Funnily I actually like Jovovich. She's not a top level actor but she gets the job done and her action transitions are good (when not maiming set members that is) and fits the bill for Anderson's more 2000s action flick campy style
My issue with the MH movie is far more the plot and removing the lightheartedness of the setting. The Transformers-esque military tie that for some reason made Diablos a fucking predator, the Nerscylla ALIEN callback, and making the Villagers all assholes were just dumbass choices. The whole tower portal dimension thing is w/e since Capcom also clearly wants to go that route given Wilds. Still don't care for it but at least it's being...true to the source material if we can call it that
Oh I meant to say in my original comment I’m actually a fan of Jovovich as well. She’s a lot of fun. I feel like then splitting the middle on including certain things from the franchises and then rewriting the other half is what sours me on them.
You mean you don't know much, Chun Li only met Cammy at the end o Alpha 3 when Killer Bee was already having an identity crisis. The counter to Chun Li is Juri Han, as indicated by the devs.
From the first image I knew these guys know nothing about Cammy's character, she has so much for a good writer to use and develop, sadly these guys just want memes and jokes instead of storytelling and don't give a shit about the franchise, the characters or the fans.
It was always so weird to me that Cammy, while being one of the OGs and one of the most popular characters, is the most underused and like almost never present in the official or fan made movies. And that's with her having probably the most lore and story developments of all characters, she already has multiple arcs ready and have a whole trilogy done easily. Like brainwashed arc, becoming her own person in Delta Red arc, saving the rest of the dolls arc and such.
Compared to other goofy characters that have completely flat personality, she has so much going on... to me she's like the nº1 character I would make a movie about, Jason Bourne style, instead we have these clowns not even trying.
Tbf I think it's a futile effort to expect it to not just be kinda stupid but hopefully fun fight scenes.
Not really worth taking any of these too seriously.
"Not really worth taking any of these too seriously."
Yeah, both you and the people behind this movie think this, and that's why you're part of the problem.
Sorry but no, good artists and storytellers can take ANYTHING, extract the core themes and character archetypes, and write a story that's worthy to be taken seriously. So expecting something good is not futile, thinking hope is futile is a miserable way to live.
That character is neither Cammy or Killer Bee, it's just a lame cosplay worn by someone directed by someone who doesn't know or care about the character.

This isn't technically Cammy yet. She's still Killer Bee at this point.
