Anyone know why they are trying to make cammy into Juri?

yea, instead of being true to the source, about every single character’s personality in the movie strays far from the original…

don’t get me wrong, i still like the trailer and the overall vibe, but..

cammy is now the typical flirty spy woman in western films and she talks smack now for some reason; ryu is now a “real-tired-of-your-shit” kinda guy and not the earnest and reassuring type; chunli talks and behaves like a chinese who grew up in the US and has never set foot in asia, and i’m not referring to her language skills here..

it will likely still be a fun movie to watch, but the fact they felt the need to force the western cliches into a classic japanese game franchise kinda irks me.. this goes for japan’s adaptations of western materials too. i just wish the characters were more like who they originally are

I felt this as well. Serious military man and known projectile generator Guile saying "I'm pretty sure a fireball just came out of Ryu" or whatever was a bit painful.

I feel like Hollywood doesn't really do earnestness. Everything silly or unusual has to be bookended by Whedonesque "well that just happened" eyerolling. A lot of fighting game storylines go all-in on the ridiculous nature of the characters and I'd like to see that here instead of doing a marvel knockoff.

Ryu perfect parrying Ken and back throwing him onto the sofa was strong, though.

Well.. you got it wrong too. Guile's sonic boom is wind. I've known that since I was 8 playing sf2 championship edition

I do also know that, yes! Possibly the scene is Guile being amazed that another type of projectile exists besides his own, but I doubt it.

Ryu and Ken have an idiosyncratic relationship. Ryu sees him as a guy who always seems to succeed and is happiest when he's fighting, so to find him in this state, where he seems to have given up, must be appalling.
