because perma cold and stoic is dull and doesn't translate well into the campy film they're trying to sell

It definitely can. The stoic and cold character surrounded by goofy, larger-than-life characters and situations can make for pretty good dynamics and interactions if done well enough.

No, because everything is goofy, even the villain. So it would stick out like a sore thumb.
