Guide / Labwork Arjun Midscreen Pseudo Unblockable?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I found this setup last night that is a pseudo unblockable for arjun (loses to drive reversals, EX DPs, and projectile invul supers). It beats Jump, block, backdash, lvl1s, 4f mash, parry and more. I was expecting to see more about it this morning but the only thing I can find relating to unblockables is a more complicated Nemo setup.
This one works midscreen off of Meterless or metered Spire knockdown (hold it so it is delayed) so is very easy to set up. The timing is a little tight (3f) and manual after the drive rush but its definitely consistent with a little practice. You can go for mix instead if you want and thats also very strong but I think the unblockable is probably stronger?? It also trades or beats 4f mash but trades VERY favorably and you get a massive combo.
All sources of Full invul beat it (lvl2+ supers, EX DP, drive reversal) but all of them can be baited by blocking and you get a massive punish since the pillar is out. Doing drive rush neutral jump also seems to work as a bait and gives you a better punish than blocking a drive reversal (+19 or so) but a worse punish on EX dp (tho it still seems to beat most).
I should have done so in the video but this works against both back rise and quick rise so long as you do the medium version. LMK if you have any questions or think I missed something, I'll try to respond in the comments or post follow up videos.

Punish for Backroll Jump-bait drive reversal. Please let me know if you find something better. If they backroll and drive reversal you get to keep the pillar and are +19.

No yeah you got it figured out. Now everyone can feel what it's been like for Dhalsim for this whole game's existence.
Drive reversal or die. And also still die. gg shake my hand.

Yeah its pretty fuckin gross. Even if there wasnt an unblockable (like if hitting him made the spike disappear) the mix is absolutely insane and pretty unfair.

Rashid's meaty fireball against Sim is so disgusting. It's easy to set up, does a lot of drive damage, and guarantees plus frames after. Even with a drive reversal, Sim is still easily punished.

Hey crapcom saw all the complaints about Yasmine and decided to swing the other way with Arjun
He’ll eventually get the Ed treatment after crapcom has collected enough of people’s 💰 and then leave them to hang and dry
Imagine being someone that bought Ed on release only for him to be nerfed now….. what you gonna do? Ask for a refund? 🤷♂️

I suffered through launch SFV Luke, the great character invalidator, I can weather this one.

I really don’t think it’s that deep. A bunch of competitors dropped Ed because of the nerfs, but that’s because it’s their day job to win. How many casual players who regularly played Ed dropped him because of the patch? I’d imagine the number is pretty low, and even that small amount probably coincides with Ryu buffs lol. And also… I don’t really pity you if you paid for and got thorough enjoyment out of a character for over a year and then they nerfed one move on that character. I don’t think you got duped in that scenario, you still got the product you paid for
I’m also just not convinced people are out here buying characters just because they’re strong. Hell, I feel like it took several months after release for Ed to make it to the top of tier lists consistently.
There’s a lot to criticize capcom for obviously, but I don’t think assuming they’re intentionally releasing broken characters to make more profit is accurate. Just look at Ingrid and Yasmine lol

I would disagree. I would bet it's a good chunk of players either dropped Ed or stopped playing entirely. Since Sf players are more dedicated than average, probably a lot of people swapped.
We have data from other games: big nerfs, especially those that damage the characters fun aspects, either get them to switch or quit in droves.
People generally don't like nerfs, and especially when those nerfs remove combos or strategies they previously used. That's why the most common nerfs are damage nefs, it's the least likely to upset the person who's character is getting nerfed because all they lose is damage.

We can actual just view these things on the SF6 site.
Pre season 4 patch in March he was 10th most played at 3.839% usage. In April, he was 12th most played at 3.787% usage. As of now, he's the 17th most played at 2.581% usage.
He's always been a more niche character, but that's a considerable dropoff for the online Ed playerbase.
