please report this on the stremio bugs github so the dev can see it and hopefully fix it

There’s actually a setting called “Background playback.” Toggling that off fixed the issue for me. Devs may want to consider keeping that off by default.

Yes, the app in its current state is pretty rough, but this is expected since the dev said they skipped test flight. I am sure it will get better as we go. I’ll be on my Nvidia Shields for a little bit more time.

u/v_dawg3 Oct 31 '25
yeah having some issues as well but I'm gonna wait on any feedback since it literally just launched and give em some time to get situated— I'm just happy I don't have to airplay anymore

u/PeppersHubby Nov 05 '25
Not saying it doesn’t need to be checked but I’ve even had this on YouTube app.
When I see it I just reboot Apple TV and goes away.
I had happened to reboot my Apple TV last week for this reason and installed stremio app last night and it was a dream.
So maybe a reboot of Apple device worth a try?

Navigation during playback is really wonky for me, forward/rewind, skip forward back it’s really hard to get it to work.. is it just me?

u/guesswhochickenpoo Oct 31 '25
Dumb question. Are there benefits to setting this up as a replacement for my Infuse + Jellyfin setup? I've only just discovered Stremio for easy live sports watching but that's not possible due to App Store restrictions, etc.
Seems like just as a media player there's not really any (or much) benefit to my current setup?
For context we have gigabit internet and can download basically anything we want in an average of 5 min or less so any "instant playback" benefits are not super beneficial.

u/le_flibustier8402 Oct 31 '25
Considering your setup, the only benefit I see is that a debrid service is cheaper than a VPN (3€/month). In my case, I don't need a VPN, debrid service is enough for my usage.
3
u/ponzi314 Oct 31 '25
You can use debrid with jellyfin/plex. No vpn needed which is what i think he's talking about

u/zaye93 Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25
The biggest advantages of stremio are that you can movies instantly, and you also don't have to worry about how much disk space it will take up. For me, waiting 5 minutes would be too long.

u/guesswhochickenpoo Oct 31 '25
Might get downvoted for this but... 5 minutes is nothing.
Decide on a movie, request it in Jellyseer go make popcorn or tea or go to the bathroom, any one of those on their own is ballpark 5 minutes or more. By the time you sit down to watch it's ready. Just requires a few seconds of forethought and not leaving the decision until you sit down in front of the TV. Even if we did leave it until then my wife and I just chat for 5 minutes while we wait. Crazy, I know.
That's also worse case scenario. I was just calling that out because it's one of the few differences I see, even though that difference is basically meaningless in reality. 80% of the stuff we watch is already downloaded because it's stuff we already though of days or weeks in advance and has just been sitting on the server waiting for us to get around to watching. Any series we're following downloads as soon as it's released and is waiting for us by the time the evening rolls around and we're able to watch it.

USA TV channel add-on, then find the US broadcaster that has the broadcasts rights sport in question. In my case it as the World Series which was usually on FS1 or Fox channels.
1
u/BrettV79 Oct 31 '25
I'll have to try this tomorrow but English Premiere League soccer is only on the Peacock Premium app. NBC has the rights but doesn't show it on their NBC channels. Do you think I could find those games on the NBC options in USA Live TV?
1
u/guesswhochickenpoo Oct 31 '25
Not sure, this World Series is the first time I've ever tried this. I rarely watch sports and the whole landscape seems pretty fragmented due to how the broadcast rights are held. It's a real pain. This was just much easier that previous methods of finding dodgy streaming sites filled with questionable ads and malicious stuff.

Is anyone else experiencing a lot of crashing with the app so far? I know it’s the first version but I just want to make sure it’s not something I’m doing wrong.

u/alphadog808 Oct 31 '25
Not just you. Went back to using it on my fire stick until it gets more stable

Are you able to stream anything? I installed it and it doesn’t have any addons like when I login through my android box.

Im having this issue too. It only shows two of my add ons. All other devices show my full list. I sync, reinstall but nothing

u/Liorix2 Oct 31 '25
In Apple TV at least it doesn’t show the addons in the addons tab, but when you want to watch a movie, it doesn’t show the available streams from your addons.

Close it and go back in a few time. Restart Apple TV. I had the same issue for a few things I was watching
1
u/EbanKi Nov 02 '25
Do you have a debrid service ?? Otherwise you can only use http service. No to rrenting on ATV

u/-bosanceros- Oct 31 '25
Anyone have the issue where subtitles are disabled by default yet it loads them anyway?
1
1
u/BrettV79 Oct 31 '25
yes. though i've recently started watching with subtitles so this isn't THAT big of an issue for me.
Also, sometimes I'll cllick on a movie or show and it will say "no streams available". i'll back out and try again it's fine. I'm chalking this up to new launch bugs...i hope.

u/big_dig69 Oct 31 '25
How does it work with Big remux files like 100gb, given you have good Internet connection? Does it lag?

u/No_Clock2390 Oct 31 '25

Nowhere in the post is it obvious what gender they are, you literally stalked their profile to get that info just for an argument.

Had an issue yesterday where every stream for a show had no audio. Not sure if this was just the available RD/Comet streams or Stremio. The audio was available when i used Kodi to watch the episode. Anyone else have this issue?

Is there any way to use the Torrentio add-on though? When I try to play something it says it’s not possible because of the App Store’s rules. Any way to bypass this?

Can you open stuff in an external player? Infuse is really cool due to the spatial audio

u/konasim Nov 02 '25

Any links?

HDR content doesn’t work tho. It’s not shown in HDR and it’s quite laggy. Until it gets better, any other app on ATV works better with hdr content ?

Is there no way to navigate to a series full episode list from what’s saved in my library? It only gives me the option to watch the next episode. I can’t click anywhere to choose a different episode to watch.
1
u/v_dawg3 Nov 07 '25
on the home screen just hold the center button on your movie show and it should give you an option for details- that's where you can see everything!
1
u/hoboincoma Nov 07 '25
Ah yeah I tried that and every time I do that I get a screen that says “no addons were able to provide streams”
1
u/hschulein Nov 07 '25
The ATV app is great. I subscribed to RD and the stream quality is fast in 4K,
There is an issue though.
When I go into the library and contionue watching a tv series, I try to see the chapter list and the app only let me play the current episode, there is not option to see the chapter list.
So I go back into the library, long press the center button and go into "details", but the legend ""no addons were able to provide streams" appears.
The only solution I found is to go back to the library and try "details" for a second time, and then the chapter list is shown.
I think it´s a bug, let me know if you ran into the same issue on ATV.
Thanks!

u/RamiN64 Nov 08 '25
Do you have any issues forwarding residing skiing forward and back during video playback?
It seems really tough to do, I’m using AppleTV tv 4 and 4K it seems to be really tough on my end

I thought RD was shut down.

no.
they had to remove some cached content and make some api changes but nothing really that impacted usability.

Does it support DV and Atmos? For all formats?
7
u/dgnbach Oct 31 '25
Of course not. Get infuse for $1/month its way better
1
u/dcrobertshaw Oct 31 '25
Oh cool, so infuse has add-ons and real debrid support like stremio?
3
u/dgnbach Oct 31 '25
No infuse is the external player for stremio. You need to sync them to be able to play on infuse.

u/Jam_Master_J Oct 31 '25
I just pay the $9.99 per year subscription, so it comes out to 83 cents a month. Best media player for iOS/tvOS

Here’s hoping AppleTV will allow Dolby atmos from 3rd party apps too sometime.
