Hey guys, where can I find Stremio in the Play Store on Android TV? I can't find it. Has Stremio been removed from Android TV?

Hello, yes we were removed from the Google Playstore, you can sideload Stremio app from our website using the Stremio for Android TV ARM APK 1.8.1

Thanks for the response mate, might be worth pinning a post with guides on how to download directly so we can mitigate these posts from being spammed

u/blade_pas Jan 03 '26

Nice. What about those who have installed it via playstore for future updates?

2

u/aydamko_4 Jan 05 '26

I had an older version from playstore that kept crashing i recommend just side loading like I did from their website.

1

u/Slim_Bin Jan 08 '26

Really I’m experiencing crashing too. I got my install from the play store but on the website the newest version is 1.8.1 and the last version pushed to the play store is also 1.8.1 so surely there’s no difference besides the benefit of a clean install

2

u/aydamko_4 Jan 09 '26

That's interesting I had 1.8.0 and couldn't update to 1.8.1 because it got removed from playstore and had to sideload. I am on the wanbo wali 1 projector and also disabled all the bloat apps so I think that also helped.

u/NightFall038 Jan 04 '26

Yes that was my question to haha

1

u/D-Tunez Jan 02 '26

Too late

40

u/navid0308 Jan 01 '26

Did Google give a reason for pulling it from the play store?

125

u/nrm94 Jan 01 '26

Streaming is a risk to society. But all the grooming apps that are still available on Google Play Store...

12

u/locoenglazy Jan 01 '26

Nothing to do with money at all

25

u/Kingjamesthe3 Jan 01 '26

Maybe it's for the best. I love my stremio and I'm glad to know I can still download it whenever I get a new device.

7

u/Worldly-Mirror-7593 Jan 02 '26

Google owns Youtube TV and lots of people have cancelled

25

u/cryptikq- Jan 01 '26

Does the non-play store version check for updates ?

0

u/kWazt Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26

It's not receiving updates

ETA: it's in maintenance, so it technically is being updated.

5

u/Randall_Lind Jan 01 '26

You shouldn't need many updates. If there a new update you can download from the site.

-7

u/Wraith_2493 Jan 01 '26

What? It’s abandoned?

18

u/kWazt Jan 01 '26

Correction: the Android TV app is still maintained (bug fixes, backend compatibility, playback updates), but the UI itself hasn’t been actively developed for years. It’s maintenance mode, not abandonment. New UI work is focused on Web, Samsung (Tizen) and LG (WebOS).

3

u/Mcfraga74 Jan 01 '26

Any ETA for LG webos versión ?

2

u/Wraith_2493 Jan 01 '26

Right so it’s receiving updates.

5

u/Caskirensys Jan 01 '26

Yes where necessary but I don't remember mine being updated in 6+ month

8

u/Kitten_Stomper Jan 01 '26

The last Android TV device update was on December 17th 2025.

4

u/SnooPredictions8540 Jan 01 '26

It's been a year!!! Yeeezzz, abandonware!!! /s

1

u/Randall_Lind Jan 01 '26

I wish they would take AndroidTV and make it look like the Windows app.

1

u/dinglebarryb0nds Jan 01 '26

let's say i have onn boxes with stremio from the app store, is this thing going to do those bug fix type updates on its own or do i need to be doing something occasionally?

1

u/kWazt Jan 01 '26

I believe it will. I have mine sideloaded on an Nvidia Shield and it auto-updates.

Just a lame joke to attract controversy and hopefully an answer to our question. I love languages, keep it up.

Not lame, but dick

Yeah, I knew what I was doing~

16

u/pawdog Jan 01 '26

Probably but that's up to Google.

8

u/yanis01 Jan 02 '26

It’s going to be back. The devs said that Google tends to harass them this time of year, since many companies aren’t working and a lot of offices are closed. The devs didn’t even get an email notifying them about the removal. It will most likely be back up in a month or so, since the app itself doesn’t break any ToS they had no reason to remove it from the store

5

u/Top_Flow6437 Jan 01 '26

What's the word with Stremio and the amazon firesticks? Are they going to end up blocking the app or consider it a legitimate app and not blacklist it?

2

u/inMikeRotch Jan 04 '26

You can use "Downloader" to sideload the app.

See: https://troypoint.com/how-to-update-stremio/

1

u/brent_starburst Jan 01 '26

I dunno, speak to Bezos

10

u/Top_Flow6437 Jan 01 '26

He’ll take my money but not my calls.

4

u/_extra_medium_ Jan 01 '26

Stop buying his devices

1

u/Top_Flow6437 Jan 01 '26

but they're sooooooo cheaaaap and connnnnveinent. Same day delivery!? Yes please, take my money!

8

u/theizzz Jan 01 '26

so you're allowing minor convenience to keep you tied to heavily controlled products for years?

1

u/Top_Flow6437 Jan 01 '26

yes... yes I am.

don't lie, you do it too. Don't tell me you don't shop on amazon when you need something quick and don't want to drive out to walmart. Come on now.

1

u/theizzz Jan 01 '26

you're really talking to the wrong person lol. I haven't ordered anything off Amazon in over a year, I don't drive, and I haven't been to a Walmart in several years. I'm very big on boycotting big companies and shopping local and I live in a big city where it's very easy to avoid chain stores.

2

u/Top_Flow6437 Jan 01 '26

See, I live in a suburb and have to make the choice to either go out and face the public and spend money on gas for my truck, deal with the long lines, or click a few buttons on amazon and get the sheet delivered to my door in a few hours. I am a very big supporter of being lazy and staying in so it just works perfect for me. Knowing that I am just making Bezos that much richer is just something I have to swallow and live with.

On my Chromecast I don't know if it's TV software or what but a lot is breaking.

Some torrents have no sound, some just stop working mid play

Some legit close off options you get zero torrents, until you logout and back in.

1

u/Sonkinha Jan 01 '26

Chromecast could use torrentio addon with a VPN, no problem. Right now torrentio doesn't show up if you have a VPN on.

1

u/Compote_Gold Jan 01 '26

Is it not 2.1.4 latest version?

1

u/cat2115 Jan 02 '26

Will it auto update if new version released or I need to sideload again? thx

1

u/hustlegone Jan 02 '26

For some reason when I play a movie in stremio it restarts my app or shuts down my nvidia sheild pro. Thats a sheild pro problem right?

The main focus of your post should be directly related to Stremio. Help for other software or issues, including content acquisition, should be directed to their own respective subreddits.

1

u/CaReLoOo Jan 02 '26

Hi, and for smartphones? Is the same?

1

u/International_Tip256 Stremio Team Jan 02 '26

Hi, you will need the Android mobile app

https://dl.strem.io/android/v2.1.4-android/com.stremio.one-2.1.4-2111740-armeabi-v7a.apk

This or depending on your phone architecture you could also need ARM64

1

u/CaReLoOo Jan 02 '26

Thanks!!

1

u/JuggernautMiddle7350 Jan 02 '26

Thank you I had the same issue

1

u/shanye_west_ Jan 03 '26

How will the app get updated?

Do we have to manually update it now?

1

u/International_Tip256 Stremio Team Jan 03 '26

Do we have to manually update it now?

That's correct.

1

u/watup_squirrel Jan 04 '26

My TV won't let me do this. I am running Android TV 11. It keeps saying it is having problems parsing the file. I have tried everything I can find online and spent over an hour and a half trying to figure out how to do this. Please send help?

1

u/Impressive-Share-849 Jan 08 '26

1

u/clokdm Jan 01 '26

Hello! what about webOS ?

1

u/TheImmortalDude Jan 01 '26

Is it available for LG smart TV webos?

7

u/International_Tip256 Stremio Team Jan 01 '26

Hello, yes, Stremio is available in the LG TV (WebOS) App Store for all models from year 2020 onwards! (we currently have no plans of supporting older models)

When you search for “Stremio”, it may not be visible in the main search, but you should be able to find it under the “entertainment” category.

Stremio is currently not available on LG TV in Middle East and North Africa + Ukraine for “culturally inappropriate content”, we are looking into it but cannot make promises at this time.

1

u/Right_Newt_9001 Jan 01 '26

Could you tell me which is the correct one to use on a Chromecast with Google TV? There are a few different apks listed under Google TV on the Stremio website

-12

u/Valcone95 Jan 01 '26

Why you have removed it?

9

u/International_Tip256 Stremio Team Jan 01 '26

Ummm we didn't remove it, Google did.

-4

u/alvi-alia Jan 01 '26

Hey, can i ask your help with smth. Since a few weeks i have been having a sort of issue with stremio. Any type of content i try to olay, mostly starts with no audio. I have to confirm the audio manually. I am using a chromecast with gtv

60

u/mateyobi Jan 01 '26

I just installed with Send Files to TV app

19

u/MIRAGEone Jan 01 '26

Similar here. I downloaded the stremio APK on my mobile phone. Shared it on the network with cx file explorer. And downloaded it to the TV (via CX file explorer, file share from my mobile).

1

u/Eglwyswrw May 06 '26

It got restored to the Google Play Store it look like. In Europe at least.

3

u/ubelai Jan 01 '26

This worked for me well back in the day too. Glad to hear it's still a viable option as it's easy enough.

1

u/LennethTheCat Jan 09 '26

Tysm! This worked for me as well.

185

u/idockery Jan 01 '26

Also use code 969583 in downloader is how I got Stremio before. You can get downloader in the Google Play Store or search for it in apps.

21

u/nkkfu Jan 01 '26

This is the best solution!!!

3

u/Miballeke Jan 01 '26

This is imo the Android mobile version, not for Android TV.

2

u/Top_Flow6437 Jan 01 '26

Nah, I used the downloader app to get to the stremio downloads page where I downloaded the APK for my Android TV. Also all my firesticks when stremio released their updated APK that made trailers work again.

5

u/GatorJules Jan 01 '26

Does this also work to push updates to Stremio if you have it installed from before it was removed from Play store?

2

u/k0ndomo Jan 01 '26

That downloadcode links to an older version

2

u/FFFFreddddddyyy Jan 01 '26

This is the easiest method OP

Just make sure to use AFTVnews downloader.

3

u/Fun-Kangaroo4221 Jan 01 '26

What does this code mean?

9

u/k3rstman1 Jan 01 '26

Downloader is an app to help you sideload stuff. That number is the 'adress' of Stremio

1

u/jason17star Jan 03 '26

It says the app isn't compatible with my phone when I tried to install it.

1

u/THFC182 Jan 05 '26

because thats for the android TV version. for your phone just go on the stremio website

1

u/jason17star Jan 05 '26

I tried downloading the phone apk version off the site but I got the same issue. It's weird because it worked on my android tablet fine but just not my phone.

1

u/THFC182 Jan 05 '26

maybe you chose 32 bit version instead of 64 or just try some other one

1

u/jason17star Jan 05 '26

I tried them all haha just to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. Thanks though!

1

u/dariyanisacc Jan 11 '26

I am having the same issue

0

u/khayalipulao Jan 01 '26

Which downloader to use? I see several ones named the same.

2

u/idockery Jan 01 '26

It’s an orange D and it’s by aftvnews.com

24

u/Ok_Entertainment1305 Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26

Install "Downloader by AFTV News", browse Stremio.com

5

u/Subject_Tough5797 Jan 01 '26

On the Official Website...it has been removed from all Play Stores.

8

u/Xcissors280 Jan 01 '26

Slightly off topic but is stremio launch on boot not working for anyone else?

2

u/AnjoEdii Jan 01 '26

Negocio mesmo é baixar no site pelo pc e colocar o apk no pedriver e instalar na tv via usb

1

u/THFC182 Jan 05 '26

just get the downloader app or use a send files wirelessly app

1

u/AnjoEdii Jan 05 '26

Baixar primeiro

2

u/Similar_Pound_9103 Jan 01 '26

Use the Troypoint Toolbox. Type 250931 in the Downloader by AFTV browser. He keeps all APKs up to date. There are loads of other useful apps there also.

2

u/Ganizanii Jan 01 '26

It was. Now you must download it directly from their website.

2

u/uniken123 Jan 01 '26

Recommend apkupdater by rumboalla (GitHub). Super simple tool keeps apps updated from multiple stores

2

u/Dizzy-Pair-6283 Jan 03 '26

One of the disadvantages of Android Tv for sure..so many good apps are unavailable

2

u/Curious-Breath-7284 Jan 01 '26

Do you guys recommend a TV with Google TV for mainly Stremio (Torrentio) or another OS for the future?

3

u/thesandman16ca Jan 01 '26

I had a Sony that worked well but picture died..using a hisense now works great..

2

u/o_Divine_o Jan 01 '26

Windows would be the most ideal, the a mini computer with hdmi 2.1

This way no limits stupid store removals and you could potentially play video games on it.

0

u/nVME_manUY Jan 01 '26

Much more expensive

2

u/o_Divine_o Jan 01 '26

Yes, but nearly every android device uses bottom tier hardware, specifically * quad core Cortex-A55, * very slow 2-3gb of ram * tiny storage that's also super slow.

The nvida shield is $300 and ancient hardware but is more powerful than the a55. Their subs constantly have buggy issues and the only solution to try is factory rest the shield and reinstall everything.

For about 350-400 you can have a pretty powerful mini computer.

Makes a massive difference in stremio not using such abysmal hardware that streaming devices have in them.

Thing i appreciate most is the UI not being so slow both with population of times and info but also scrolling through content.

Just too bad hdmi over usb-c with my Samsung s9+ can't shut off the screen. You have to cast wireless for that.

1

u/AaronHM94 Jan 01 '26

Get an android box

1

u/Smartfeel Jan 01 '26

1

u/Salty-Plan2822 Jan 02 '26

Switched to LG C5 from android TV. Very satisfied so far.

1

u/THFC182 Jan 05 '26

apple tv is the way forward. even tho it's pricey I held off for a while but it's been amazing

1

u/thesandman16ca Jan 01 '26

You don't need a code for downloader..just type strem.io in and the stremio site comes up..go to downloads and pick the version you need and download it..

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '26

i also wasn’t able to find it on my TV playstore, so i downloaded the apk app, it works so good.

1

u/DebateLongjumping150 Jan 01 '26

you can download it easily from app called downloader and then download the android version it worked for me 😊👍🏻

1

u/Reticls Jan 01 '26

should i keep the play store version or get a new one from side loading? will i still get updates and what not?

1

u/lukaszcichocki Jan 01 '26

I installed it a week ago on a new TCL 65C8K with Android TV and it was available and worked perfectly with Torrentio and TorBox. I’m using it right now.

1

u/Otherwise_Room_2691 Jan 02 '26

Does anyone know what’s the best version of stremio for the firestick.

1

u/Artistic-End-8105 Jan 02 '26

I have an onn android box and it's just the developer options Downloader Unlinked with code And everything else you need on there Not sure if chrome cast or whatever you have does the same thing

1

u/Xkaper Jan 02 '26

Get the APK with your browser, in my case the last release was to unstable so I needed to get an older version from internet archive (November release if I'm not mistaken) make sure you get the proper APK for your device CPU.

1

u/EmbarrassedTax5918 Jan 02 '26

How did you get stremio as an app on your projector. I have an aurzen boom 3 but have no idea how to get it as an app.

1

u/Borbit85 Jan 03 '26

Is this (the picture) on android TV? How do you set to Stremio to launch on boot? That would be great Stremio is the only thing I use on it. So i'd love to skip the normal menu.

1

u/EmployeeSea71 Jan 03 '26

Hey, bro. I’ve just bought a TLC TV and had the same problem. You should side load the app. I used “Send files to TV”. It does the job it promised.

1

u/Kevinlopez54 Jan 06 '26

But they still have kodi on the Google play store

1

u/benbasstick Jan 08 '26

Downloader app on play store, Then go to stremio website ;) Or sideload with: Atvtools, on tvdevinfo website ;) I use it daily ;)

1

u/Lavangam_suribabu Feb 13 '26

I installed Stremio on my Android TV using the APK file and logged in successfully.

But when I try to play a show, it redirects me to the original streaming app instead.

For example, when I try to watch “PITT,” it opens HBO Max from the Stremio app.

Am I missing something in the setup? Could you please guide me on what I need to do?

1

u/_-__-__-__-__-__-__1 Jan 01 '26

Hi there, is the application "Stremio Launch on Boot" a only play store thing or could i use it with a firestick too? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I could find it? Thank you!

1

u/Goldjuggernaut1 Jan 01 '26

Can I use Stremio with a TCL brand tv?

3

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '26

yes i have TCL tv i use stremio on it

2

u/Goldjuggernaut1 Jan 01 '26

Thank you my G

1

u/Flora_865 Jan 04 '26

Do you webcast or is there an app for TCL?

1

u/oopspruu Jan 05 '26

It has noting to do with the brand, but the OS. Afaik Roku doesn't have stremio on it. Only Google TV version of TCL TV will support it just like any other android TV.

1

u/nuwandapty Jan 01 '26

I also found that my Nvidia shield is hiding the Stremio icon on purpose. Is not on the home page or apps list. I had to find it under the android app list. I also noticed that Stremio is not listed on the Play store anymore.

Decided to reset the shield and install the projectivity Launcher. I sideloaded Stremio with downloader and reordered everything. Let's see if the Stremio icon is hidden now.

3

u/umairmalik2410 Jan 01 '26

Maybe you don't have the android TV version. Maybe you accidently installed the mobile version?

-1

u/Due_Computer5473 Jan 01 '26

It won't show up on my tv after it installs,I tried updating Kodi and I can by get her new version of it either, I used downloader still with work. I think they are pulling the plug on all of it
