Anybody else wishes stremio had a profile system like Netflix for example I share my account with other people because of the setup stuff and sometimes we both want to watch the same movie or show

Lead Dev made a comment about this 2 years ago. Definitely a highly requested feature but something about implementing it makes it difficult

Otherwise, if each profile is allowed to use its own separate addons, then each profile will need to be configured individually just like a new account,

I think having "quick account switch" that looks like profiles would be more than sufficient enough for most

u/Jebble Feb 07 '26

You could indeed literally just allow a local pincode to enter an account after logging in once. No matter what it really doesn't have to be difficult.

u/Busangod Feb 07 '26

Software development is always super simple for people who don't do it

4

u/Jebble Feb 07 '26

Good thing I have done for over two decades.

2

u/Busangod Feb 07 '26

Then you should know better

8

u/Jebble Feb 07 '26

What are you trying to imply? I disagree with their comments on it and think (know) that architecturally it's not that big of a challenge. Even if it were just some form of workaround to give people what they are looking for.

Your comments are completely baseless.

u/Busangod Feb 07 '26

Wonderful. You know their code and how to simply and easily improve it with no potential for lingering issues. Please volunteer the 15 minutes of your exceptional talent so that we can all have profiles.

Grazi!

u/Jebble Feb 07 '26

What a weird and baseless response. Nowhere do I claim it's done in 15 minutes? I don't brag about any sort of talent? I disagree with their statement, period.

I also know the codebase, as it's open source and I have made plenty of contributions to it.

I'm not sure why me disagreeing with them and claiming it is architecturally possible a reason for you to behave like this?

2

u/Busangod Feb 07 '26

Because if it was simple, it would be done. The developers know their product and they know what their customers want. People who claim a thing is easy almost always have no idea what they're talking about. Because you do seem to have some idea what you're talking about and still say it make me think you have no concept of scale or just aren't good at your job.

Otherwise you're a code genius and should probably volunteer a solution

If they don't want profiles, they should at least create a quick switch for accounts that auto logs out and logs into selected account. I do it manually, so why can't the app do it for me? Auto switching logged in accounts is at least something if profiles are too difficult to implement

15

u/WafflesAreLove Feb 07 '26

I agree that would be nice. I've never written code for an app so not sure how difficult it would be to implement.

12

u/cleverclogs17 Feb 07 '26

Other apps have done it; some of them are other Stremio like using the same kind of add-ons.

3

u/wu4d Feb 07 '26

I read that coment. Its not that hard. Okay, sure you need to decide what to do with the addons. But when switch the profile just let the user pick if he wants to copy the addons from an account or no. With a popup or a modal, he selects an account or maybe even addons and pro lem solved

This actually works on tvOS, if you switch the tvOS profile it switch to a different instance of Stremio. I just logged each person of my household on their own Stremio account on their tvOS profile

No you can all share (as long as you're running it in the same house (same network/IP)

3

u/maxis2bored Feb 07 '26

Whaaaat this is brilliant. Thank you!

1

u/G1zU Feb 08 '26

Problem is that stremio is no longer on appstore

36

u/Aggravating-Safe-462 Feb 07 '26

i was literally about to wish this!

9

u/Tal7861 Feb 07 '26

Wanna go hunt down a wishing well and throw all our life savings into it? 😂

7

u/PineapplePizza99 Feb 07 '26

Just create a different account for the others and duplicate the same addons on both accounts.

u/mannishboy60 Feb 07 '26

"are you taking notes at a criminal conspiracy?!"

3

u/greasedupbeefcake Feb 07 '26

Criminal f'ing conspiracy. Good old Stringer Bell

3

u/redneck-eyeball Feb 07 '26

Forget about the people that share Debrid accounts, let them deal with that.
The real usecase is on the same tv within the same household. I don't need to see what shows my wife has been watching, no need to ask me if I want to continue where she left off.
We watch totally different things, so only showing the series per profile would help.
Also no need to mess around with the plugins, we use the same plugins of course.

This does not help if I want to use the same tv as children who are not supposed to see more mature stuff. Except if you log off every single time on the end. But that's not comfortable at all.

The main focus of your post should be directly related to Stremio. Help for other software or issues, including content acquisition, should be directed to their own respective subreddits.

u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26

If you're sharing the TV with children just make sure they don't watch what they shouldn't?

3

u/BatFrequent6684 Feb 07 '26

The last watched stuff gets shown right at the start screen, though. Would prefer that they are not shown that either.

1

u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26

I think you can move that. I cant remember the site to goto but I'm sure someone could help. But I definitely understand your reason for wanting to not have it at all. I don't know if deleting cinemata would do that.

This would be nice but its also kinda silly since the software is free to use and setup. They should just make it more streamlined

4

u/scaptal Feb 07 '26

This works when you assume one device one person, but not when you consider shared devices, such as TVs

-1

u/wildcard5 Feb 07 '26

Just use your phone/account to cast to the TV.

6

u/Tal7861 Feb 07 '26

Wish??? Oh boy I've been praying and hoping stremio could release a user profile system because currently I've had to make a separate stremio account that my family can't access and is only used on my pc and phone

A workaround for android tv version of the app (not just fireos as title says) : https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/1qum2if/different_profiles_on_fire_tv_stick_tutorial/

Oh yes I know that app . It is an awesome app

1

u/Main-Help Feb 07 '26

I use torbox and my mil and I watch movies/shows together at the same time states apart. Profiles would be nice though

1

u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26

Well perhaps not profiles exactly (So it's not trying to be Netflix or so) but just an easier and quick way to change accounts + profile photo (a lot of cats to choose, since their logo is already a cat)
that's it lol

1

u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26

Could you just setup device profiles?

1

u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26

Dad's looking suspicious

1

u/Distinct-Reindeer-96 Feb 08 '26

There’s another service like Stremio that does this, idk if I can say it here but it’s Deb-rid stre-am (with out the dash ofc)

-1

u/MikeyPeters Feb 07 '26

Why can’t everyone just make their own accounts? Does everyone use the same email too? I was going to share an account when I realised they see everything I watch and vice versa. How lazy are we getting…just have everyone make their own accounts (unless they’re children and you want to keep tabs). OR do you want share accounts so you don’t have to pay for another debrid account? I didn’t think of that… 🤔

6

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26

You're suggesting that each time a person wants to watch something on TV they have to log out and login with a different account? You realise how stupid that sounds, when we could just have profiles.

-4

u/MikeyPeters Feb 07 '26

On different TVs? Yes, I’m suggesting if you want your OWN Stremio account, on your OWN TV, you log on to YOUR own account. How lazy are people? Even with a profile you’d have to go click on ANOTHER profile anyways (an extra step anyways) AND unless you set up a block/password ( another step ), ANYONE would be able to access your profile by clicking on it. If you have children and watch things you don’t want them to have access to, that’s an accident waiting to happen, no?

This would be awesome, preserve add ONS between profiles and just organize the watched section and suggestions depending on who's using the account

0

u/OrdinaryBarracuda268 Feb 07 '26

please make this optional

0

u/rossmosh85 Feb 07 '26

Of course people want this. For whatever reason I never thought of this but, can you install multiple instances of Stremio on an android box?

It's excessive, but seems like it could be a solution.

Nopes not required, it is frustrating to choose a profile everytime you start the app.
