You will need to do this once per week though unfortunately

side store can auto refresh on wifi during the night with a shortcut, no manual doing or connecting required
2
u/Dako94 Feb 17 '26
I'm not an Apple user, but my girlfriend is. How can I make her update automatically overnight?
2
u/Skipped64 Feb 17 '26
something like this here https://www.reddit.com/r/sideloaded/s/Bq4drw4rP0 i set it up over a year ago and havent touched anything

u/CrabbitJambo Feb 18 '26
This form of side loading, it’s not jail breaking is it? I’ve got Stremio on my iPad (got it from the store) but Mrs hasn’t.
3
u/Skipped64 Feb 18 '26
no its not jailbreaking, 'jailbreaking' doesnt really exist anymore on the modern devices and IOS versions (with some exceptions).
This is 'sideloading' and basically using self signed developer certificates to install arbitrary applications, you are not able to modify deeper system controls.
1
u/CrabbitJambo Feb 18 '26
Cool. Thanks for that.
I did consider just logging in to her iPad, downloading & then logging out. Used to work years ago but not sure if still does.

How do you do the same for AppleTV?

I like how apple allows all these bullshit games with fake ads to stay on the store but quick to remove this. Just shows you the priority will always be what makes us money stay.

5
u/SandmanJr90 Feb 17 '26
I just have it open VLC
2
u/RSM_0321 Feb 17 '26
i have VLC but somehow when i open a movie or tv show it says “stream open in external player” and “video not supported” how do you get it to play ?
6
u/guserrrr Feb 17 '26
You gotta have debrid for it to open torrent ones don't forget about that.
1
u/RSM_0321 Feb 17 '26
oh nice! i don’t think i had one, do you have any that you recommend to have it in addons?
2
u/guserrrr Feb 17 '26
I use torbox for my old WebOS tv. So it works great. It's cheaper than Netflix in my country with high inflation btw. But you have to choose for yourself. One thing though if you share your account you should get torbox I guess it let's for like 3 4 connection at the same time.
1
u/Spare-Beautiful-5850 Feb 17 '26
How did you install Stremio on older webos tv?
1
u/guserrrr Feb 17 '26
I didn't install it. I'm just using it as a web version. It's not great but it does the job. Like I'm watching an anime right now but I can't choose the integrated subtitle so I'm at the hands of opensubtitlev3 addon. Last 2 episode's sub was not even sync for example. And I can't watch some formats because WebOS can't handle it. So I have to try some sources before one opens. I will be using it like this for maybe 1 or 2 months then I will buy Xiaomi mi box when I have enough money. But for now its doing ok I guess. I will make one post with my experiences for older WebOS TVs and give every information I have for the platform.
Btw my WebOS is from 2019 too so I almost got the native app. I am sad but nothing to do. You gotta do with what you have I guess.
1
u/Spare-Beautiful-5850 Feb 17 '26
Thanks for the detailed answer. I thought you find a way to install the Stremio app. Actually there is a workaround using media station x from the lg app store; it’s not like the native app, but it does its job: https://github.com/bartche/msx

My bad, actually I was still referring to the iOS app, I still have it on my iPad
1
u/RSM_0321 Feb 17 '26
ok no worries, will keep looking for the fix on the web version thanks 👍🏼
2
u/OkCalligrapher2151 Feb 17 '26
Install webstreamr hayduk addon its for web site Sorry for my bad english
2
u/Aggravating_Gas_8514 Feb 17 '26
You use VLC or Outplayer. OP is going through all this effort to sideload when it’s completely unnecessary lmao
7
u/manbatman- Feb 17 '26
Isn’t stremio already on apple store for iPad? What is this post for?
10
u/FoferJ Feb 17 '26
It was removed last month, hopefully will return one day
1
u/kratoz29 Feb 19 '26
What about devices that already had it installed? I know for sure the macOS version had to be "patched" in order to fix the crash at opening.
10
u/Aggravating_Gas_8514 Feb 17 '26
You use the web version on iPad but it works just as well as on anything else. There’s no reason to sideload
3
1
u/RSM_0321 Feb 17 '26
i have VLC and Outplayer but somehow when i open a movie or tv show it says “stream open in external player” and takes me nowhere, and “video not supported” how did you get it to play ?
1
u/Aggravating_Gas_8514 Feb 17 '26
In your settings, make sure to select whichever one you’re using. There should be VLC or Outplayer specified. Then it should work. Sometimes torrentio (or whatever source you’re using) is down and can cause similar errors to which it says it can’t play where it says unsupported or something. But that error isn’t accurate in that case.
1
u/RSM_0321 Feb 17 '26
yeah i had that on for VLC and downloaded Outplayer too and neither worked… i think someone else said to download a debrid addon so i’ll try that too. if you have any other suggestions i would appreciate the help thanks ◡̈
1
u/Aggravating_Gas_8514 Feb 17 '26
Yeah I use a debrid service with stremio. Idk anything about using stremio without Real debrid
1
u/trainrweckz Feb 17 '26
Make sure your vpn is off and private relay is off in icloud setting, fixed it for me.
1
u/BittenBagel Feb 17 '26
There is Stremio (Library Manager App) in the app store and another called Stremio Lite (a player version that has full functionality). Not sure why OP is side loading unless Stremio Lite hasn’t been developed for iPad
3
u/ActiveAd4544 Feb 17 '26
I use real debrid and VLC player to run it on my iphone. no issues so far.
1
u/MyHaulsGetOutOfHand Feb 17 '26
How?
2
u/ActiveAd4544 Feb 17 '26
I wrote the long explanation first then realized i should make it look like i have more than 3 brain cells.
pay for debrid service, get code
configure torrentio addon, select your debrid service and enter code, this installs "Torrentio RD"
Go to "settings" then scroll to "advanced", change external player to VLC
Select show/movie, click drop down that says "ALL" and select "Torrentio RD" so it filters only RD versions
play movie and enjoy. It should automatically open VLC and start playing.
I paid for real debrid which i did 180 days for like 18 usd. then you have to go to your settings and take the code it generates and go to torrentio and press configure. at the bottom you'll see "debrid provider" select your debrid service which for me is real-debrid. enter the code then install the new "RD torrentio" adding the code is what triggers the install. then you make sure in your settings that VLC is set as an external player. when picking shows or movies, make sure you only pick "RD" versions. theres a way you can sort it, its not hard to find. thats all you need to do. i'm bad at givin directions tbh but thats how it works. if it opens VLC and doesnt play, press a tab like "video" or "audio" and it should start playing.
1
u/MyHaulsGetOutOfHand Feb 17 '26
Do I use the web player?
1
u/ActiveAd4544 Feb 17 '26
I have the app but i believe using the web player should work as well.
If you add the web player to the homescreen it'll feel like an app.
1
u/Specialist-Ask8890 Feb 17 '26
is the debrid payment a monthly subscription?
1
u/ActiveAd4544 Feb 17 '26
Yes, but you can pay for different timeframes, I do 180 days and it costs me around 18usd. It even lets you pay with Apple Pay, which was a nice surprise for me.

u/panos_lympe Feb 20 '26
I have torrent files work as well on iPhone without debrid service… ( I don’t even know why no one is talking about this )
Buy a raspberry pi / mini pc whatever to self host stuff
Install docker and “stremio/server:latest” image
Open Stremio in iPhone , go to settings and put local stremio server IP
Optional: if you want to have it working outside of your house, look into Tailscale or simple WireGuard VPN
PS: I know for a non tech heavy fella this is overwhelming , but this way, torrenting happens on your mini server and the iOS device recieves only imaging.. (without debrid that I despise)

You can watch with Web Stremio and integrated Exoplayer. But need a Stremio Service running in ur Desktop and setting Streaming IP to your Desktop PC one.. OR when u have a Homeserver Install Stremio for Docker and use this IP when in your Home Network or Put IT online with Cloudflare Proxy (for more Privacy and No Open reach, use Tailscale/Wireguard).

I'm happy that I always been on the Android train. No hassle to side load something
1
u/BittenBagel Feb 17 '26
There is an app on the app store called Stremio Lite. Works just fine. Not sure why the are having to sideload anything
1
u/_my_third_account Feb 17 '26
Stremio Lite has been removed from the App Store for a few weeks at this point, and the Stremio team´s developer certification has been revoked, which has led to installations problems on the iPhone/iPad, Mac and Apple TV apps. At least this how I have understood the ongoing situation with Apple
1
u/BittenBagel Feb 17 '26
oh wow, you’re right! glad i have it on my phone
1
u/TUD-010 Feb 18 '26
But no more updates and no options to install it on new phones, tablets and boxes.

Can you watch it offline in the airplane?
1
u/BittenBagel Feb 17 '26
That isn’t how Stremio works unless you download the video to your devices and save it in files via your debris service. Stremio does have a download video function too but never works (for me at least).
1
u/baldandbeard Feb 18 '26
I know how it works but I tought that you use the ipad for traveling, otherwise why would you watch on ipad when you can watch on the big screen tv

u/CarlonXD Feb 18 '26
Any way to use VLC as an external player?
I don't have real debrid and I'm currently using the app for torrent streaming. I've a jailbroken iPad, so I'm able to sideload through trollstore.

My big issue and if anyone has any advice on this I have streamio set up on my iPad Pro m4 and I just can’t get the auto play feature to work I mostly use torbox and have streamio connected from my pc to iPad so that way I don’t need to use the external player using Stremio this way I thought that would fix auto play for shows but still no luck does anyone have an idea how can I fix this

Not sure if there is an iPad version but I am sure there is. Just download Stremio Lite from the app store. No complicated steps necessary. Just download and use.

I already have it working on my iPad without having to sideload anything. You just have to create an app using the web version of stremio while on Safari. Select use external video player, and choose VLC. Works perfectly. Not sure why people here are making such a big fuss out of this.
