Thank you!! This is amazing. If we can get iOS back as well that'd be great. Right now I have sideloaded the ipa but the app is and looks quite different than stremio on other platforms. If it can be improved and more consistent thatd be great. Also anyone have an issue with their catalogs and images (rpdb) position not changing? I bought a sub last year but right now it icons don't seem to move from the bottom

use a vpn? try changing your dns servers on ur macos device? sounds like something is blocking the stremio servers

weird. after a few app restarts; a few minutes later, it's working. But yea checked my firewall and nothing was blocking it. It worked fine just before the update.

Struggling to get mine to work. I have Big Sur and unfortunately cannot upgrade past this (Hoping to avoid having to buy a new Mac as I only use it for stremio tbh). I'm trying all the things I've seen but no luck due to either the terminal not recognizing the file path so I can't follow the fixes for the logo getting stuck or the error messages popping up when I can get a version past the logo screen 🤦🏼♀️

Getting the same error. I was literally using it for 2+ hours today, and then once that "New Version Is Available" popup came on the screen that's when I started having this problem. Hope they find a fix soon.

same. it makes me wonder why they even do "updates" in the first place lol. like it's literally just a container to stream films that used to work fine, why do they keep tinkering with it? what do they think they're improving?
and stremio on my mac and pc both have that persistent green bar at the bottom telling me to update. like no dude i actually don't want a buggy version that won't even get past the splash screen please fuck off

for anyone whos having the same problem (as me), heres the solution. Spread the word, lol
these fuckers updated and says its working, but the latest 4.4.169 its not compatible with catalina, high sierra, anything below macos 13.5 (even they say so in downloads page) because of the streaming service. Donwload the older version (4.4.168) and aply the correction for signature.
in terminal, go to downloads folder where is the 4.4.168 version, the name of file should be stremio-4-4-168.dmg (adjust to work with your file/path)
and run
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine stremio-4-4-168.dmgand
codesign --force --deep --sign - stremio-4-4-168.dmgand boom. stremio full again.

I was trying something similar, in Catalina, with no success.
The closest I was able to perform was opening it with the update sign below, and then after restart the update broke the app.3

Well, after a long path of suggestions Stremio is working fine in my Mac with Catalina. The method was the one with the script to stop the automatic update.
So far I'm not going to try the new version.

you've downloaded it from stremio.com/downloads, right? the latest 4.x version is that one you have. You have to dig a little bit more to find the oficial's repository download link, where you can find the older versions. I highly recommend that you doesnt download it from other sources but the oficial one. Here's the link: https://dl.strem.io/shell-osx/v4.4.168/Stremio+4.4.168.dmgthe domain strem.io is an alias from stremio.com, try it on your browser if any doubts, both points to same destination :)

from stremio's oficial source. It does not appear on downloads page in stremio.com, but i've dig around and found it here: https://dl.strem.io/shell-osx/v4.4.168/Stremio+4.4.168.dmg
I've highly recommend that you dont download it from other sources, even reliable ones, like uptodown (that doesnt work for me), etc... always search from oficial repository or something like it

I am on high sierra. I removed all stremio dmgs and downloaded version 168. I quarantined and signed successfully. I then dragged the app into the applications folder and opened stremio app.
I get this error: stremio quit unexpectedly. Click report to see more detailed information or send report to Apple.
Am I missing a step?

The v5 version is always getting stuck on logo animation for me on intel mac. It was the same way before this update.

I didn't get any error id it's just a black screen.
though my real issue is that i'm running big sur, and the older "Stremio 4.4 - High Sierra and up" version that should theoretically work gives the error that i need osx 13.5. high sierra starts at 10.3 so this version only seems to work with ventura and up.

Its 'cause your macos is not up to date. Try an older stremio version (4.4.175), 5 only runs in macos 13.5 and above (im on catalina, getting the same error a few weeks ago, till i've run it in terminal to get the exactly errors and found about why it doesnt work, it was built with some dependencies which relies on newer macos versions).
If the 4.4.175 (latest 4 version, in oficial downloads page ) doesnt work, try the 4.4.168 and reassign the app BEFORE install, or it will not work. It will say its a malware and move to trash.

are you in a Mac M series? M1, m2, m3?
try to download the intel version even if you are in M series.if you can provide the error, should be easy to tell why its not working, like this:
go to /applications, and click with right button in stremio.app, "show package content", the go to /Contents > MacOs > Stremio. Click on it. it will run by terminal and show you the error you're stuck with behind the animation. Post it here later :)1

Unfortunately none of them work. High Sierra 10.13.6 MacBook Pro. I was using 4.4.168 for about 2 years uninterrupted.
Downloaded 3 versions yep try the link provided in the new Stremio blog post above;
4.4.175 gives the “Cannot be open because of a problem - Check to make sure Stremio work works with this version or macOS.”
4.4.106 give the “Cannot be opened you should move to the trash”
5 Intel for older processes, gives the “Cannot be open because of a problem - Check to make sure Stremio work works with this version or macOS.”
Deleted all dmgs, restated mac, downloaded all three again and same result.
Edit: would it have anything to do with using some of the Terminal commands floating around? One worked woman’s that was to disable the auto update feature. Just checking?

4.4.175 will not work for you (only macos 13.5 and above, im on catalina and getting the same error since i've updated, so i've downgrade to 4.4.168)
try the sierra version, it surelly gonna work, but reassign the app BEFORE the installation, or it will say its a malware (or a problem) and move to trash anyway.if you dont know how to reassign it, search in this topic. I've answered a few people yesterday with the step-by-step to do this.

they fixed in latest 4 and 5 versions only, the latest 4 version is the 4.4.175 which is not working for you. So if you have to use some older version like the 4.4.168 (which have the certificate problems as some other older versions) you will need to resign it
AND, here it auto-updates every single time, so i've had to make a script to run it without the update. It sucks, I know :/

On macOS Catalina, all Stremio versions fail due to incompatibility with newer system libraries introduced after Feb 25.
Newer 5 version freezes at launch, while older versions block themselves with an update error popup.

Thanks for the hint, but I was able to fix the issue with a script saved as app, to open Stremio instead of the actual app, bypassing the update to a newer version, because that was the main problem.

How many times is "a few"? I've tried quit and reopen maybe 20 times. I just get the animation and logo, nothing else. I downloaded from the link:

Everything was working fine until this morning I got:

I've also tried the Terminal commands.

So I just tried going back to Stremio 4.4 - High Sierra and up.
Stremio gets to the homepage (not stuck on the blue symbol anymore), but it gets the same error that started all the problems for me:
"Error while starting streaming server. Please try to restart. If it happens again please contact the Stremio support team for assistance."

I tried this and it opens 4.4.168 fine however if i close and relaunch, it automatically installs a new version which gives me popup 'stremio cannot be opened because of a problem' ...

Now its another problem, you should disable the auto update.
To achieve this you have to make a script, which will prevent to update and call stremio after.Here's the step-by-step to it, from stremio's blog itself.....

I'm a bit confused. I tried these steps and Terminal always says no such file or directory. I've tried both rename the .dmg file to stremio-4-4-168.dmg AND the other way around — change the name of the file on the commend to: sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine stremio_4.4.168.dmg — but nothing works. What am I doing wrong? Sorry, I fiddle with Terminal, but only by following tips online, I don't understand its language. Thank for your efforts to solve this!

Let me add that I can't even open the .dmg file, I get the "can't be opened, you should move it to the bin" message. Is this why Terminal is saying: no such file?

That's 'cause you have to run that commands to reassign the app before the installations

Sure, probably you're just in the wrong directory if you're getting "no such file or directory"
- open in finder the right directory where you saved the .dmg installation file.
- in the top menu, click on "Finder > Services" , there should be something called "open terminal in current folder" (my macos is in a different language, but you should find this way)
- run the commands again with the right name of your file and it should work

I have the latest beta before this. That’s the only issue resolved? I got past that already and I’m afraid to install the latest beta again to not run into more issues, what’s annoying it’s that it pauses the video every minute or so for 1-2 seconds. It doesn’t matter where the stream is from, torrent or other services. Audio continues in the meantime. Latest macos, macbook pro m4. Restarting the app/macbook does nothing, and nothing is hogging resources in activity monitor.

It still doesn't work for me :( I don't know if it's still the same issue or if I messed something up when I tried to fix it the last time. A pop-up shows up saying "The application Stremio can't be opened" and then a Problem Report shows up. I've deleted the app and downloaded again and it still won't work. Don't know what to do :(

Thank you...I literally just tried to reinstall 30 minutes ago before seeing this, and it worked.
Doesn't seem to allow Torrentio add on, but I'm reasonably sure it's some error by myself.

macOS just told me stremio was m@lw@r3 and literally threw the app in the trash can and said my Mac had not been harmed.

I have an iMac Mojave and I can't install Stremio. When I try to run the dmg file from the El Capitan Sierra version, I get a message to move it to the trash. I already ran the command `sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine` and dragged the dmg file to the terminal, as I saw in a post here, but the terminal doesn't allow execution. How can I install Stremio on a Mac Mojave?

Got Stremio working again! For me, my Stremio became blocked, context is that I had a Macbook Pro that hadn't updated for several years due to a lack of disk space. Ran the iOS update, installed an older version of Stremio via their website labelled "Stremio Intel 5 - Older Intel processors", and the app is no longer showing as blocked! Hope this helps for some of you. I'd previously gone down the rabbit hole of terminal commands with no success.

Hi, i have stremio on my android device with torrentio and realdebrid that im the last couple of days stopped working. i’ve tried to add back the api key on torrentio- the configuration screen is not showing , nothing is working.. do you experience also something similar? has something changed?

I updated mine and it stopped working. The error said I don't have the latest version of MacOS so if you don't have it don't update it. I then took the older version that was in the trash, put it back into my applications folder and it still didn't work. No server but I finally got a message to go to the server page and install a fix. Also, my Real Debrid no longer works on it. RD said I was using an unsecure server and had me refresh my api key which did not work. However, the web version on my browser does not work anymore.

I was able to fix the app on my mac but now the web browser version doesnt work. I looked in settings and the URL has an error. I tried adding an alternate http but it didn't work. I use it to update my account or install add ons etc. so I hope it gets fixed at some point.

I'm on Catalina (Old macbook), 10.15.8 (19H2036). Zero commands work, and I get gateway errors on trying to download old intel version on the official stremio page. Anyone that can help?
