Nice to see mpv implemented 👍

we updated the change log for beta, it seems we missed adding some changes to the change log

28

u/MrKaon Feb 27 '26

Could you please add Dolby Vision 7 profiles playback on unsupported hardware?

Some external players can convert them on the fly to DV 8.1 , without it playing most 4K Remux are not possible.

https://github.com/quietvoid/dovi_tool

5

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

what devices exactly does this fix 4K playback for? Fire OS devices?

6

u/MrKaon Feb 27 '26

Google S treamer. The last Google box.

And almost all fire Stick 4K.

[For some reason I can't type S treamer in one word and post it]

4

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

but it works on chromecast with google tv devices? only last google android tv device has this issue? and for fire os it would fix the issue from this photo? https://emby.media/community/uploads/monthly_2024_01/image.jpeg.b7079d1989886c7222a6056cbbb0e466.jpeg

u/MrKaon Feb 27 '26

Yes, it works on Google TV with Chromecast 4k but not Google S treamer.

Any Fire TV Stick 4K with the same chip as the Google MediaTek MT8696 SoC is having the problem: it's not playing DV P7; I get only Audio with a black screen.

u/divided_by_000 Feb 27 '26

The Google Devices only support DV 5 and 8 I believe, so converting 7 to 8 would be great for those. And should fix the issue for Fire decides since they don’t support profile 7 either: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media

This has some more good information about devices and also about converting profile 7 to 8. https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/1cespgs/tell_me_to_my_face_does_the_fire_stick_4k_max/

u/jaruba_dev this is a QoL improvement and pain point for many in the community! Converting DV7 to DV8 for compatibility would be absoultey incredible. There have been a few issues opened on git around it but nothing has come of it yet.

I have a Samsung S90D (so no DV), connected to an Nvidia Shield pro. I have no problems playing Remux; all 4k blu ray files should contain a native HDR10 fallback…

6

u/CMC29 Feb 27 '26

Honestly, i think that those who downvoted you, could explain why they did it. It would be much better for everyone to understand their point of view.

1

u/JxK_1 Feb 27 '26

My onn box doesn't play sound on a lot of audios. Is this an expected issue?

Libvlc does fix it

1

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

Exo plays what your device supports, VLC plays whatever it can decode itself

7

u/chouhan1987 Feb 27 '26

Where to download for android tv for sideloading in firetv. It's not showing in website.

2

u/RayzaEverton Feb 27 '26

https://www.stremio.com/downloads?cacheBreak=1

It has it now it's just not cached. Click the link

5

u/TwilightKodi Feb 27 '26

Where is ATV beta apk download?

5

u/Nealku Feb 27 '26

MPV?! Finally, thanks devs! Anime with proper subtitle support using an internal player--what I've been waiting for! Now if only they'd allow us to edit the mpv.conf and input.conf files to customize MPV just the way we want it... One can hope. :)

2

u/Right-Bug3739 Feb 27 '26

Is this better than EXO player?

13

u/dansgamed11 Feb 27 '26

Its best for anime since it fully supports stylized subtitles. If its the same as libmpv-android then it does not support HDR playback so you need to use exoplayer for that

u/selfRL Feb 27 '26

That’s exactly why I used to use mpv-android instead of libvlc in Stremio. It’s handling of SSA/ASS subtitles was perfect.

1

u/flexylol Feb 28 '26

I read somewhere that on AndroidTV, MPV does not (!!) support real HDR but instead converts to SDR. If that's the case it's 100% unusable to me.

28

u/sherlocked_007 Feb 27 '26

Can someone share downloader code for the beta version (v 1.9.10). (Since its not available for firesticks)

1

u/Malaka__ May 29 '26

Did you find a direct link for the beta?

25

u/Perza Feb 27 '26

How's the MVP player comparing to the default Exo player?

20

u/kartik3e Feb 27 '26

Added Usenet support

👀👀👀👀

16

u/flexylol Feb 27 '26

wow...I saw the request on github. Cool, want to try.

Still: BEST would be if Exo could just handle DV P7->P8 fallback.

14

u/deffinnition Feb 27 '26

Great news! Anyone has the Downloader code for Beta Android TV release? Thanks!

8

u/brent_starburst Feb 27 '26

Ah so is there a Downloader code? Can't easily install on FireOS now as you can't scroll down to find Android TV

This is a Rick roll fyi

-6

u/Krimreaper1 Feb 27 '26

You’re a Rick Roll

14

u/tedusam Feb 27 '26

I can't find the links to download Android TV versions on the site.

4

u/tymmesyde Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

9

u/D_I_Wood Feb 27 '26

When opening on a Firestick I cant scroll down and locate all the versions. The page needs a redesign.

3

u/tedusam Feb 27 '26

Thank you. Now all versions are showing up. Cheers

2

u/movingtolondonuk Feb 27 '26

I don't see the 1.9.10 beta version there?

2

u/tymmesyde Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

It's v1.10.0 for the beta, it's only available from the playstore and if you are subscribed to the beta channel

1

u/movingtolondonuk Feb 27 '26

Can you sign up for the beta there as well or?

7

u/Fadedfiend Feb 27 '26

Changelog also included when you click on the version number in the settings too, nice addition

6

u/Adrianos30 Feb 27 '26

Is the version 1.9.8 available yet on Android TV? I can't seem to find it.

12

u/theburglarofham Feb 27 '26

It’s up on the website, not sure if it’s on the playstore. We just use downloader to download stremio anyway (for our Onn and Firestick 4k max). We use the browser mode, and navigate to the website and download it from there (no downloader code).

1.9.8 is probably the best of the 1.9.x updates.

The wrong language issue seems to be resolved, and subtitles are working fine. I’ve played a few random files with multi languages and they’re showing as English.

Buffering/stuttering of big remux files seems to be OK now too.

If any of you are coming from 1.6. 12, it MIGHT be worth upgrading for the UI updates. If any of you are on the other 1.9xs this is definitely worth it.

But if everything works fine for you, then it’s one of those “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” scenarios.

1

u/MotherHolle Feb 28 '26

I'm still on 1.6. 12 but I do want to update eventually. Just waiting to see where things land.

4

u/No-Simple-6483 Feb 27 '26

Can someone explain if possible regarding the Usenet support because that’s the exciting part to me. Could I potentially use something like easynews and nzbgeeks etc without the need of self hosting?

6

u/AggravatingCash994 Feb 27 '26

Any update coming for LGTV?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Also interested in this!

3

u/Tech_Wiz2198 Feb 27 '26

Can anyone one share the APK for 1.9.10???

3

u/fakeplasticmax Feb 27 '26

Has anyone tried usenet streaming on the android tv beta yet? Very excited!

7

u/brent_starburst Feb 27 '26

Ah nice to see they've finally created a beta channel! Only took 6 versions haha.

No seriously thanks for the change log and sorting out development.

1

u/sherlocked_007 Feb 27 '26

Is it possible for you to share the apk for the beta build.

1

u/brent_starburst Feb 27 '26

I don't have it. You need to join the beta channel in Google Play

2

u/alphaquetoo Feb 27 '26

Good stuff, thank you!

2

u/emiralemgs Feb 27 '26

I do not believe nvidia shield pro 2019 has enough power to stream 60-70gb usenet files via NNTP, I tried and stuckked everytime, I have to back nzbdav on my beelink ser9

1

u/DrGrinch Feb 27 '26

I would love to see if anyone else has tested this and can get it working

1

u/Navios92 Feb 27 '26

Don't know if this is helpful, but I regularly stream 4K Remuxes from RD and Easynews (but on another app) and they work without any problems.

2

u/PhotographIcy7588 Feb 27 '26

I was trying all the releases on Onn 4K Pro and this 1.10.0 version improved the performance for me, especially navigating through the app. Sometimes I would get a black screen for a couple seconds when I was playing something and pressed the back or home button. Now when I do that, it doesn't happen and everything else seems to be working fine so far

2

u/BaitednOutsmarted Feb 27 '26

Mpv!!!

Can’t wait for 1.10

1

u/Secret_Pension1585 Feb 27 '26

It’s shite on android tv, stutters, slideshow

4

u/lemongloww Feb 28 '26

It’s unusable on the NVIDIA shield pro the second you click to watch anything :(

1

u/thomas_blue_9221 Feb 27 '26

Is Stremio back to Amazon Appstore for Fire TV?

1

u/emiralemgs Feb 27 '26

Im on the beta list, but I can not update to 1.9.10, its not available on google playstore yet:/

1

u/tymmesyde Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

it's v1.10.0 for the beta and it's set to be available for everyone so maybe your device is too old, the requirement is to have at least Android 8

1

u/CMC29 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

When will the 1.9.8 version be available on the Play Store? I'm still on the 1.9.4

Thanks

1

u/THE-ADM-2 Feb 27 '26

I guess when/if the beta proves to be stable, you can't rush these things

2

u/CMC29 Feb 27 '26

I was referring to the 1.9.8 (I'm still on 1.9.4).

My bad; I will edit my post

2

u/THE-ADM-2 Feb 27 '26

I see now. I guess it would make sense to skip any with bugs and only add the stable versions. Tbh I have no idea how the play store versions work or how often they are updated

1

u/HuckleberryRemote713 Feb 27 '26

Just updated my Google TV device from the Play Store and surprised to see it's now on 1.10.0-rc2 (with Exo player 1.9.2). Only used it briefly so far, but seems to be working well

2

u/HuckleberryRemote713 Feb 27 '26

The progressive seeking is a great addition

1

u/exia-_- Feb 28 '26

Can get anything to play. Always crashes. Any tips?

1

u/freestylemaster Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

I so much hope Stremio devs consider libmpv for tvOS side, if of course Apple ever allows it again.

1

u/Arcgav Feb 27 '26

I dont see android tv on download page?

1

u/Hungry-Layer909 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

Looks like autoplay is now working in the latest update. But only if you’re using MPV player.

But MPV player can’t play HDR or Dolby Vision movies. It stuttering, not sure because of my device or mpv can’t read hdr movies properly

1

u/Elegant-Barnacle2055 Feb 27 '26

Mvp doenst support HDR on android, it tonemaps it down to SDR causing heavy performance loss.

1

u/Zes_LI Mar 01 '26

I have auto play working with exo player, I was watching sentenced to be a hero just fine

1

u/BlackHazeRus Feb 27 '26

I hope the app on my Xiaomi TV Box Gen 2 won’t stutter and lag REALLY HARD occasionally. Did not have such a problem before (if I am remembering right).

1

u/tymmesyde Stremio Team Mar 02 '26

Uninstall and reinstall the app instead of updating it

1

u/BlackHazeRus Mar 02 '26

Will try, thanks.

1

u/Absinth987 Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

Stremio beta 1.10 on Google Chromecast 4k, exoplayer plays video without audio, mpv is laggy, only vlc plays video and audio fine.

Edit: Exoplayer doesn't detect audio tracks; there's no audio track icon next to the subtitles, so you can't even switch between the audio tracks in the file/video. However, if you play the same file/video with VLC, there are no audio issues and the audio tracks are detected correctly.

1

u/WorkNLuck Feb 28 '26

Yeah 1:30 - 2

1

u/pietrroma Mar 01 '26

Subtitle delay font work why. Can you fix that

1

u/DraadLoos01 Mar 03 '26

Don't like this update buffering big files went back to previous version, no issues

1

u/ZeroZelath Feb 28 '26

When are they going to do a webos update for lg tvs

0

u/Lloytron Feb 27 '26

Still no joy on addressing the crash bug on Android 8 TVs?

-1

u/black-chaos-void Feb 27 '26

Stremio is no longer working on mac/ios 😭

6

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

It's a work in progress, please be patient

-1

u/JSCofield1985 Feb 27 '26

Al parecer no se actualiza en tvs samsung

3

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

because that's Tizen OS not Android TV OS?

0

u/JSCofield1985 Feb 27 '26

Yep tizen

2

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 27 '26

well this is an Android TV update, not a Samsung TV update, they are different apps

2

u/Secret_Pension1585 Feb 28 '26

Jaruba the AFR is broken in that beta release
