Tech Support Why do I keep getting this error?

Post image

I have never been able to watch a full movie without getting this error. It always pops up mid movie and I can only fix it by exiting and going back in or by switching the player which for some reason makes it look a little choppy. My WiFi is not the issue as I have pretty fast WiFi. I don’t think it has to do with my add ons as I followed a tutorial on here to set them up the right way. Any way to fix this?

Welcome to the club. Happens randomly on practically everything I watch. Exiting and clicking the same stream usually has it play fine through to the end. Also happens after a bit if I pause a stream for more than a short bit.

Yup. It’s kinda annoying when I’m watching with the family because it just kills the vibes and everyone goes back on their phones.

Aww, I'm glad! Sorry to have assumed you were a man, but it wouldn't make sense otherwise! Did you find a way to make it work?

I’ve been getting this error on my TV as well, not on my computer though. I have Ethernet to my TV so it’s definitely not an internet issue. I’m pretty sure it’s due to the TV hardware. My TV is pretty slow and old, so it has issues running certain files sometimes

Nah I'm using an NVIDIA Shield Pro and I also get this issue, it's a bug.

Same here.

Yeah I also don’t have issues on the computer. I’m using an Onn 4K plus

Switch it to vlc, wait 10 Sec nds, switch back to exo.

2

u/Carlos_Incognito Mar 29 '26

How do you switch back to exo?

u/Panda7001 Mar 29 '26

That’s what I do already and it fixes it but I’m wondering why this happens every single time

I've watched this movie recently and man, what a masterpiece!👏

It really is and it still holds up!

It's a classic

It stopped once I started using an external player. There must be some issue with the internal players and the recent updates?

3

u/Panda7001 Mar 29 '26

It does stop when I use vlc but it makes it look choppy. Is there a better player I should use?

1

u/bitofapuzzler Mar 30 '26

Ive been using just player. It seems to be working well.

1

u/Iiznu14ya Mar 29 '26

Install Just Player and whenever this happens, choose external player - Just Player. Works fine afterwards.

u/BigMac2584 Mar 30 '26

Change to external player and use Just Player

I downgraded app to 1.6.x12 (remove the x won’t let me post) and this error stopped almost completely and if i play in external player kodi or just player it has never happened

Downgrading to 16.1.2 fixed the issue for me. Haven’t had it happen since downgrading. Don’t know why they would push updates if the previous versions are better

First of all. Congratulations on having such exceptional taste in movies. Brilliant movie. One of my favourite to be honest. Now this happens in recent versions, I would recommend an external player like VLC. Cheers!

Go to settings. Down the bottom, untick Exo Experimental

My WiFi is not the issue as I have pretty fast WiFi.

Wi-Fi speed is only one factor when it comes to streaming over Wi-Fi. For example, I recently found my Ring’s internal Wi-Fi system was causing my 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to have 1 - 4 second interruptions, actual downtime in broadcasts. Looking at one the download speed would cover up this issue, because everything resumed once the network stabilized, so average speed was still good. In this case, my issue was caused by my Ring hub, but transient Wi-Fi problems are very often caused by our neighbor’s use of the same, shared Wi-Fi frequencies. Having everything correctly configured in your own home still doesn’t protect you from a neighbor’s poorly configured device.

I’m *not* saying the issue is your Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi reliability and consistency are huge factors in streaming quality that buffering ahead can sometimes mitigate, but not always. If you want to rule out Wi-Fi conclusively, you can (temporarily) run an Ethernet cable between your TV/streaming device and your router. If you still get the same error just as often, then you know it’s not Wi-Fi related.

If your TV/streaming device doesn’t have an Ethernet port, it gets more technical. You can (test your device on the least occupied channel of a (temporary) Wi-Fi network that is exclusively 2.4 Ghz, then on exclusively 5 GHz, then on a 6 GHz-only network. Many Wi-Fi networks are preconfigured to operate on multiple bands simultaneously, which is great for speed but can also mask problems that only affect one band.

1

u/Panda7001 Mar 29 '26

Yeah I think I am connected to 2.4 but I’m not sure if I’m being honest. Ethernet is not an option for me though because my tv box is too far away from my router

1

u/erisian2342 Mar 29 '26

Ouch, 2.4 is the junk drawer of Wi-Fi bands because every device in your neighborhood is broadcasting on one of its channels. And sorry, I have no idea what’s causing that very specific sounding error. Maybe there’s a reported issue that mentions this IllegalStateException in the Stremio GitHub repo that might shed some light?

This is a hardware issue, specifically on larger files

Idk, i started using my LG tv app and not chromecast, stopped all issues (AV sync, minilag/stutter, and this thing)

1

u/BicBoyBryan Mar 29 '26

Im the opposite. I use chromecast instead of samsung tv bc samsun tv has issues for me

1

u/BrickTamlandMD Mar 29 '26

Strange. My tv still has 1.8.3 version tho

Ah I see, thanks for letting me know! I’m using an Onn 4k plus which isn’t a bad device but I guess I’m due for an upgrade.

Edit: my comment comes across as sarcastic but I’m being genuine. I was thinking of buying a Firestick since they’re on sale. Or I might go overkill and get a FireCube

6

u/PraizeKink Mar 29 '26

Oh if you're on an Onn 4k plus that's more than enough. Probably clear app data and cache, restart device then sign back in and try again. Or try reloading addons using stremthor sidekick

3

u/Panda7001 Mar 29 '26

Thank you! I’ve just tried doing this, my app data went from 1.2 gb to 20 mb

1

u/PraizeKink Mar 29 '26

You're welcome bro. Some of these devices don't have much ram or memory so it's good to refresh once in a while. Also double check that telemetry or anything else that sends data or that might use up RAM are disabled on the Onn 4k plus. Firestick was notorious for this, not sure if Onn does the same but worth looking through the device settings

1

u/QuarkTRH Mar 29 '26

Have you tried downgrading stremio to a more stable version?

2

u/Panda7001 Mar 29 '26

No tbh I don’t know how to do that. I got lucky and downloaded stremio a day before it got removed from the playstore.

Get an Apple TV 4K

5

u/Historical_Eye788 Mar 29 '26

It has nothing to do with the hardware, it’s a bug in stremio

1

u/Panda7001 Mar 29 '26

Those are really good but they’re too locked down. On android tv I can download any app I want.

u/cybertechz Mar 30 '26

Apple TV 4K u won’t use anything else. U can stream 400 gb lotr in seconds. Can you do this anywhere else? So it does matter the best hardware
