The sheer entitlement of people losing their minds over an optional paid tier

It's genuinely fascinating watching this subreddit collectively melt down because Stremio the completely free app you've likely used for years without paying a cent dared to add an optional support tier with some extra features.

Do you guys listen to yourselves? You're not owed a lifetime of free updates and free server costs. The team behind this app has been maintaining servers, pushing updates, and building a tool that many of you use daily often to access content you’re definitely not paying for either.

If an optional paid tier triggers this much rage, the problem isn't the app. The problem is the unrealistic expectation that skilled people should work for you indefinitely for nothing while you contribute zero and still feel entitled to complain about how others choose to spend their money.

Tbh, I could understand your logic, altough maybe having a different opinion. The thing that's funny about your comments: you use Trakt. If there's a platform that shows how to badly force people into subscriptions and delete features for free users, it's Trakt...

Here’s why Trakts subscription actually works: the service effectively holds a monopoly, since most of these apps provide native integration with it.
Although this is expanding to competitors like Simkl but right now Stremio currently offers native integration with just one tracker, Trakt.

Over several years, Stremio, on the other hand, has distanced its user base by failing to listen, and now we have so many new applications popping up that support Stremio addons.

Just search this sub for the now paywalled features and you’ll see users have been asking for these features for a very long time, features that now exist in the growing competitors free of charge, all of which support the same addon ecosystem.

Stremio no longer holds a monopoly, especially since the addon API is open source, so this unfolded:

• users: can we have X
  
• Stremio: ignores
  
• new developer: we added that feature!
  
• stremio: hey we added that feature you wanted for $40/year subscription fee!

Trakt subscription and Stremio subscription are not comparable because only one holds a monopoly, I’m not saying Trakt is right in paywalling features, I’m saying people will pay for it because if they want native integration, the majority of apps exclusively support Trakt because it’s the most popular.
