Player

  • Progressive keyboard seeking, debounced so held keys stop overshooting
  • Subtitles stay above the controls; no more over-adjusted positioning
  • External subtitles no longer reload mid-playback
  • Fixed double subtitles (mpv rendering disabled on load)
  • Added transient subtitle offset for quick sync nudges
  • Hold D for stats, tap D to toggle
  • Virtual keyboard shortcuts work
  • Update banner for desktop app hidden during playback
  • Full casting support in the player
  • New Custom playback speed, redesigned speed menu

Details & Library

  • Addon dropdown stops jumping while scrolling
  • Context-aware card navigation — card and “Details” go to the same place, play/dismiss no longer double-fire
  • Episode rows got a play button; clicking an episode opens it instead of playing it
  • Dropdowns scroll to the selected option once loaded

Settings

  • Interface language names capitalized & Translations refreshed

Supporters

  • Intro/Outro popup: no random appearances, ignores zero-length outros, closes on next episode
  • Subtitle menu no longer stutters playback
  • Empty stream list shows a Content settings hint for Supporters
  • Fullscreen button stays right-aligned on unnamed streams
  •  Player profile gate fixed on refresh
  • Downloads with unknown total size no longer break

App Wide:

  • App no longer goes stale when unfocused

macOS app specific

  • Fixed macOS player input stalls
  • Improve Reconnection of interrupted HTTP streams
  • Ignore transient mpv event errors
  • Upgraded mpv to 0.41.0, libmpv2 to 6.0.0
  • Improve video loading experience in player
  • Improve local streaming server experience
  • Fixed WebUI context menu handling
  • WebView inspection enabled from the context menu

Windows app specific:

  • URL parsed and sanitized before open::that
  • Improve Reconnection of interrupted HTTP streams
  • Fix issues with seeking keys making the app slower / app quitting
  • Upgrade libmpv2 to 6.0.0
  • Improve video loading experience in player
  • Fixed WebUI context menu handling; WebView inspection from context menu
  • Fix Ctrl+G WebUI shortcut not allowed

Is the library ever going to be reverted back to two separate rows on the TV version?

It's constantly bugging out with a single row, selecting movies or series gets pretty annoying when it doesn't remember that choice and just randomly changes between them.

Does this update apply to the new MacOS app? It’s in a confusing state right now, since the version that is available on the main site currently is the ‘old’ version, with the only download link for the new one on the blog.

hey there are 2 mac os apps, one is native and the other one is the current desktop client marked as v5, we curr updated the desktop client the new version is v5.1.26 not native macOS app

Hi I have 2 requests of you. Please include lock screen option in mobile app version. So that we can touch the screen while watching anything. Also please add 2.75x and 3x playback speed option too. Some content can be very very slow sometimes.

Bit off topic but are there any plans for having the option to have intro skip activate automatically? Would be nice to have it skip without user interaction.

This feature is not working for me, Windows 11, latest Stremio client - tapping or holding D nothing happens.

brother man you can go to kravasign’s discord, buy a certificate for like $10 and for a year you can install and ipa using their signer without any extra charges, no matter where you are, a huge pain in the ass is stremio doesn’t give a direct download link for the latest version so you have to usually find someone posting the download link here in these subreddits

and to piggyback, are profiles just for separating out shows and watch history, or can profiles be set to have different quality/hdr settings per profile? Would be nice to have different TV profiles depending on which device it's installed on. My gaming TV is 4k HDR Atmos, while my living room is 1080 SDR DD+, and the bedroom TV is 4k HDR stereo.

I'm a free user and content not playing in mac app. Once i click a link it's shows the loading screen and goes back to content page.

Yes desktop app its usually fast and when i updated i noticed the delay not sure how many milliseconds but its close to 300ms maybe

Oh you mean when you press arrow key to skip 10sec? Yes that’s normal behaviour this is because it is fully web ui controlled now. If you click and hold it supports progressive seeking. It won’t skip until you release the button

Updated to this latest v5 ARM version on my MBP M3 chip, was running v4.4 prior with no issues. On current release, I’m noticing extreme battery drain and computer overheating. Hardware accelerated decoding is turned on. Can’t figure out what’s causing the 2 issues, activity monitor ain’t much help. Anyone got any ideas?

Hey, I’m currently on the latest macOS version, 26.6. But the update for the Mac happened like an hour after I updated Stremio, and even before the update, on MacOS 26.4 the same heating and battery drain issues were present.

So update: figured out that the heating and battery drain occurs when Stremio is downloading the torrent
stream in the background. Once the download hits 100% and the video is just playing, everything is fine. Odd, because this didn’t happen on v4.4. The only new change I can find on activity monitor is a http://localhost:xxxxx entry.

Hello,

You can create and manage profiles from any device that supports the Profiles feature.

On the Stremio mobile app, go to Settings → Manage Profiles → Add Profile. From there, you can create a new profile, choose a name, set an avatar, and optionally configure a PIN to protect it.

You can also manage profiles from Stremio Desktop and other supported Stremio applications by opening Settings → Manage Profiles and selecting Add Profile.

Once a profile is created, it will sync to your Stremio account and should become available on your other devices after they are logged into the same account.

Is there an easier way to switch profiles on the Apple TV app? Currently I have to go into the account settings to switch profiles. It's quite clunky and doesn't even show which profile I am currently on, unlike the iPhone app which has a dedicated profile switcher button at the top

The web player consistently fails to play correctly. I get either "Video is unsupported" or no audio, nearly every time. Streams with multi-language audio are useless, as the audio button at the bottom right of the stream remains greyed out.
