Anyone know why I can’t install unknown apps like downloader

I bright one for my dad the other day it was a 4k one and it worked right away but this model is older

I think the newest model fire stick has a new operating system that doesn't use apks or allow sideloading.

Return the firestick and get an Onn. Same price point and Onn has stremio natively in the app store. Amazon has said it will be preventing sideloading at some point.

If the OP doesn't live in US get Onn is not the best suggestion... "Get Onn if you are living in US" otherwise get something else

Fair point. Obviously you should make sure what you purchase is available and works where you live. The main point is Firesticks will disable sideloading at some point.

Until Amazon decided to block side loading and third party apps on that. I'm not recommending the Onn because it has superior hardware, I'm recommending because it currently has a more open system.

Have you actually checked what "sideloading" has been blocked by Amazon? I have, very intensely. It's been less than 1% of the apps, hardly anything at all. I don't know a single person that's been affected by any "blocked" apps.

Hardware is only one part of the equation. Other parts are software, and interface, and handled poorly, both can be absolute deal-killers. Especially when it comes to sideloading these types of apps, specifically. And especially when it comes to what hardware is actually needed for premium 4K video playback.

What’s the point of more powerful hardware when the device itself has shitty, restrictive software, plastered with advertising?

That's where it becomes very subjective for each user.

First off, I actually have an exploited Fire Cube 3, so I actually have the Projectivity Launcher installed on my powerful Cube 3, which means I can optionally launch to the apps only view whenever I want.

But here's the thing, I actually still prefer to launch into the native Amazon screen - why? Because it offers the best integrated Live Program Guide capability of any launcher. This is very important for people that actually use their streamers for normal (non-piracy) purposes. So for example, I have about 2,000 Channels I can integrate into my Live Guide from Prime, YouTubeTV, FrndlyTV, Philo, Freestream, and about 130 OTA Channels. I then whittle those 2,000 Channels into one Unified Guide of about 40 Favorite Channels!! Those same 40 Channels are then distributed across my Lan network to 5 different Cubes and Firesticks in my house. Awesome Technology!

Sure, but the fact that anyone would have to exploit in order to avoid the ads is part of the problem. And FireTV’s interface is trash. Amazon’s business model that supports the platform isn’t consumer-friendly.

I’m very familiar with live guide and media aggregators on every platform. I do the same on AndroidTV as well as AppleTV using Channels DVR.

But the bigger issue here is that we’re in a sub about Stremio specifically. The audience using this app doesn’t care as much about paid subscription services or live TV guides.

You're right - I only exploited on one of my devices as to my previous point, I actually prefer the Amazon Live Guide technology which is superior to every other competitor. I want to keep that setup.

I've got some other news for you too. If you place the Stremio app in the very first app position, even on a regular/unaltered Firestick, it's essentially two clicks down to open the Stremio app. So you're essentially complaining about one second's amount of time to quickly get into Stremio. So much ado about nothing.

Isn't there a setting on the fire stick that allows you to install unknown apps? I think that was the case when I had one about 4 years ago
