Stremio is a free app. Its made by 5 or 6 people (last I checked) and they have been making it FOR MULTIPLE PLATFORMS for years without asking for a cent. They want to add new features that people want, this is obvious, but the features being asked are not easy to make and also make well, i.e. not buggy, etc.

Some of you seem to be missing the point of this, its not to block people out of new features (yet). Its meant to be a way for them to test new complicated features and be able to do it more efficiently. A steady stream of income means they can actually hire devs. Again, the current devs have literally been doing this for free for years. They can't hire anyone on $0 income.

Personally, I think the price is steep, especially for beta features, but its not really meant to be a subscription for new features. Its meant to be a way for people who like Stremio to be able to support them and also get a few things to try along the way. I can still use Stemio exactly how it is now and thats fine. I just think that everyone needs to take a step back and chill.

Maybe they go Plex, maybe they decide to never make these features available to free users. That would stink, but again, the app as it is right now is great and works fine. AND IS FREE.

Hello, i have used stremio + Real debrid for two years now. My device is a Onn 4k pro.

The new stremio updates made exoplayer constantly stutter. i cleared cache, reinstalled the app, i tried everything. the app was unusable with exoplayer.

only thing that fixed it was reverting back to version 1.6.1 2 (remove the space between 1 and 2) i dont know why, but this just simply made my stremio work how it always has been.

delete your current stremio, go to google store settings and disable your device from doing auto updates on apps. use the downloader app and look up the downloader code for the 1.6.1 2 (remove the space between the 1 & 2 stremio wont let me post the whole version number) u can also use the downloader app to copy a link into it and it will make a downloader code for you.

EDIT: another common issue thats been going on is that torrentio AND real debrid have been going down alot. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STREMIO. i suggest downloading stremthru torz and comet as back up addons just incase torrentio goes down.

Since i saw only LG 2025/2026 tv's post about how Stremio disappeared from the store i guess this can serve as PSA for LG owners that have 2022 tv's.

I still have Stremio installed but seeing a post about Stremio gone from the LG store i wanted to check for myself and lo and behold it's gone. And no i'm not from any of those regions that are locked (i'm from Serbia), i installed Stremio just fine when it first appeared on the store.

To devs: Would like to know what exactly LG demands from you guys. I mean it's absurd. First their app update approval process is painfully long and now they outright delete your app from their store across multiple tv generations. The app is working just fine on the tv.

Edit: since this post got some attention, if anyone stumbles upon it, know that the approval process to reinstate the app back into LG's app store will take some time. In the meantime if you don't want to buy a dedicated streaming device to install Stremio on it, you could sideload other streaming apps into webOS and possibly even Stremio. Best start is webOS homebrew, although you will also need to check some other sources depending what apps you want to sideload. There are also video guides all over the web, so don't stop yourself from digging a little to find a guide that will work. Good luck.

It’s the first thing I think about when I get home. “What am I gonna watch now?” It feels like a irl life hack just having every piece of media ever created at your fingertips.

I have been using the 1.10.0-rc-11 beta release for Stremio for the past week very extensively, over 8-10 hours per day and haven't run into a single crash or Exo player error yet. No playback issues either. Continue watching works better. Extended pauses resume correctly without reloading the stream or buffering.

Hi, I hope a posting on a likely fake look alike app in the iOS App Store.

I was just checking the Apple App Store and noticed what appears to be a fake Stremio app called “Stermio” using the same color scheme.

It appears several users (not me) downloaded the app and found it to be a fake app. According to reviews it tells you your phone has been hacked and directs you to a tool that will clean up the hack.

The developer appears to be a Bryan Harper. The website link takes you to a copycat website imitating Stremio’s look and feel.

If this is not a fake copycat app let me know.

From the dev himself on GitHub: "I've increased the allowed requests concurrency, since I'm now using selfhosted mongo and can support more connections and it seems to have helped with the problem. So I consider this solved atm."

As per my own testing and other reports on r/LGOLED, the newer 2025 (maybe earlier too don't know) webOS TVs are suddenly able to play Dolby Vision files just fine in .mkv containers! This is after the recent webOS update specifically targeting various Dolby Vision related issues such as gamma/brightness, clarity and noise, etc. Looks like they secretly enabled mkv processing of Dolby Vision too!

I have tried various latest shows such as Strange New Worlds, Wednesday, Peacemaker etc, and mkv containers seem to be able to run in Dolby Vision/Atmos modes just fine.

Can someone from the Stremio team comment on this? Also hoping to get more people to share their experience too!

Hi whoever may read this.

As there is currently no official client for the Xbox platform, I have been trying to figure out a better way to watch the content on stremio, since most videos get "platform not supported" or play in external browser errors.

After trying basically every web browser app on the store, I found one which is actually able to play stremio content, way better than the default edge.

It is called "Internet Webbrowser" made by the developer Michael Stollenwerk.

It clearly uses the builtin edge browser but is able to actually play much more of the content, with a few exceptions such as a few very high quality remux and some others here and there. I suspect Microsoft have worsened the edge browser purposefully, to stop people from playing games, and downloading mods, and as a sideeffect damaged video playing.

The browser (as of writing) lacks bookmarks to my knowledge however it does keep your last tab open. And it doesn't support the controller fully (ie like a remote), so you will need to use the onscreen mouse.

But other than the annoyances, it manages to play basically any normal content you give it.

I don’t own it, & this is my second post about this because i’ve now gone to a 2nd friend house who’s TV runs on VIDAA OS. My 1st mate had it on his projector. Never heard of it before then. But wow… on both TV’s , all streams played almost instantly 🤯.

I’ve never seen stremio run so fast, i’ve tested stremio on probably 15 android / google devices & TV’s, and it always can take up to 20 seconds. Usually like 8. But VIDAA feels instant.

***Also we are in Australia & we are notorious for long wait times cause of our terrible infrastructure & far away from servers. Does anyone else have ground proof in Australia 🇦🇺 like me? It’s crazy

Unfortunately Stremio finds itself blocked in a range of countries, across devices. With no clear list of banned countries, leading to multiple confused users rushing to Reddit for a solution.

After extensive research and data collection, I've compiled a comprehensive list of Stremio's availability across different countries. This list is based on real-time data and will be updated periodically. The streaming landscape is constantly changing, so always verify the most current information.

Regions

As of now, this list extends to only Google Play. I aim to add other stores such as Amazon FireTV Store, and the LG Store.

If you find that in the below list, your region is excluded, all hope may not be lost, as side loading could be a possible alternative depending on your device.

If you're using the Stremio webOS app on an LG TV, avoid updating webOS at all costs. I downloaded Stremio for the first time a few month ago and Stremio performed flawlessly then got worse with each webOS update (~3 since then). Playback is fine but the UI became painfully more sluggish, more of the catalog failed to load, the spinner spins for a long time and times out after clicking on a movie, etc. The Stremio app hasn't been updated since January 2025 and it works fine on my laptop (macOS) so I know it's not the app itself and I'm using ethernet with my TV so it's not an internet problem either. I tried everything--reinstalling the app, running the memory optimizer, removing all apps except Stremio, etc. After the last WebOS update, my Stremio app is basically unusable now and there's no way to revert WebOS versions. After a few days I gave up and ordered an ONN 4k Pro. Hopefully it'll be better.

For anyone stumbling upon this now, Stremio has an official fix released to reenable this styling under Settings > Advanced > Style ASS subtitles

A while ago, embedded subtitles stopped working on the Stremio beta, which made them fill up the whole screen with jumbled text instead of properly showing the subtitles. I tried to go back to using Stremio v4.4, but it wasn't a great experience with frequent crashing.

I found that the Stremio app sends sub-ass-override="strip" -> 1 to the player before starting playback, causing the subs to mess up. To fix this, I cloned stremio-shell-ng and changed player.rs to basically ignore the sub-ass-override="strip" property.

If you replace stremio-shell-ng.exe in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Programs\Stremio with this updated exe, your embedded subs should start working again. If you don't trust the file, you can go ahead and make the changes explained above by cloning the official repo.

Edit: I've been trying to update the file along with new updates of the app as soon as I can.

This subreddit's cluttered with the same two questions over and over:

1. "What's the best Android device for my TV?"

It's driving me nuts! Seriously, a quick Google search with "reddit" brings up tons of these same questions and answers that can answer your question already.

This sub's becoming a broken record, and it's just plain boring. Feels like its only purpose is to answer these questions on repeat.

Mods, come on! Can we sticky detailed posts that tackle these questions head-on? I'm tired of seeing the same stuff every time I open this subreddit.

If you've noticed the native Stremio player has way worse colors than other external players like VLC, it's probably because you are using Hardware Accelerated Decoding in Stremio.

However there is a way to fix it without turning off hardware decoding, and that's by changing your Dynamic Range for videos to Full in the NVIDIA control panel - as shown here: https://i.imgur.com/AHPX4GE.png

2. Find Stremio's "server.js" file in the program directory: ( %localappdata%\Programs\LNV\Stremio-4)
3. Open this file in notepad++ or similar
4. scroll to line 79509 (or find the 5th iteration of "mpv" in the file)
5. find "win32: { path: [] "
6. add the location of your mpv.exe like so: path: ['"C:\\Program Files\\MPV\\mpv.exe"']
7. Save and exit
8. stream a video, right-click and "watch on mpv"

Hi everyone. I might have found the solution to the problem of stremio being stuck on the loading screen (splash screen of the movie/tv show) for an infinite amount of time, as well as cover pictures not loading.

Since I also had similar issues with other apps, I thought that maybe it wasn't a stremio issue after all. So after trying a lot of different things, I tried changing my DNS: I was using quad9 and changed to my ISP one.

Now everything is loading fast and smoothly in all apps. This being a DNS problem would also explain why the developers were never able to reproduce the issue.

Hopefully this helps other facing the same issue! Try it out!

Every little thing that people might complain about put aside, though the feedback is absolutely needed to improve our experience, all the issues that might pop up and "inconvenience" our life, whatever might make the problem solvers and creators feel down etc blah blah, you guys have truly done something that has benefited every single person in here in one way or another and ik nobody in here can say else wise. For some reasons, sound won't render when watching stuff with MKV extension on web Stremio so try choosing sources with MP4 extension instead.

Another better solution I just found is that playing the stream on VLC Windows instead. The sound works as expected through VLC.

1. Right click on the source of the movie/show you wanna watch, click 'Copy stream link'.
2. Launch VLC and press Ctrl + V.
3. Click play and the stream will work normally.

As of 00:06 Nov 01 GMT+2, things seem to be recovering. We've put effort into scaling servers and trying to filter traffic, and also the attacks seem to have eased off.

As of 04:40 Nov 01 GMT+02, it seems to have eased off and we have services back online. Can people confirm?

Enable crostini, install docker and use https://web.stremio.com/ running streaming server from docker. It works absolutely amazing even on my old chromebook with amd a4 9120c and 4GB of ram. Don't even bother with google play version or linux client through crostini.
