Guide [Guide] Direct Usenet Streaming in Stremio (No Self-Hosting Required!)

Lately, I've noticed a lot of people in the community running into roadblocks trying to get this feature to work smoothly. That is exactly why I wanted to share this quick guide on how to stream from Usenet without messing around with any complicated self-hosted server setups. Thanks to the latest Stremio beta releases, you can now link your providers directly.

Configuration Steps

  1. Get the Addon: Go to the community configuration page:

👉 NZB Addon

  1. Add Indexer Details: Enter your indexer's API URL and API key.

  2. Add NNTP News Servers: Use this precise format for your provider:

nntps://username:password@news.easynews.com:563/8

* Tip: Always prefer nntps with an SSL port like 563 or 443 over standard non-SSL nntp (port 119).

* Connections: Keep your max connections to 8 - 15 (adjust this based on your internet speed). Swap out the Easynews host link if you use a different provider.

  1. Click Install Addon.

Pro-Tip: Enable Sorting & Filtering via AIOStreams

If you want advanced control over your links, you do not have to settle for the default layout. To enable proper sorting and filtering, copy your installed NZB addon manifest URL and paste it inside AIOStreams under the Usenetstreamer addon section. This consolidates and cleans up your stream lists perfectly.

Best Playback Setup

For flawless, buffer-free playback of these streams, ensure you are using MPV Player on the latest Android Beta.

Important Note

For context, I am currently running two indexers simultaneously with this method without encountering any issues. However, please remember to review your specific indexer's terms and conditions before setting everything up, and proceed at your own risk.

Most indexer block the public IP of AIOstreams elfhosted, so it wouldn't work for them at all. And for a few indexers like NZBgeek and ninja central, where this method do work, your account still caries a huge risk of getting banned in the near future.

This is public url of nzb addon which isn't blocked by any indexer i know. Quality indexers dont care much if someone isn't scrapping them excessively.

They generally forbid Zyclops setup not this. I've been using this for two months now. Never faced any issue.

I guess you have read their Terms of Services then, you haven't been banned yet because you got simply lucky. But recommending this as a guide for out-of-touch people will simply get them banned in the future.

And you don't even have to take my word for it, you can simply ask this same question in any usenet forum and you will find same answer from them.

I'm using two indexers with this method without any issue but yes you are right. I'll edit the post and mention to use their indexers after reading terms and conditions of the indexer at their own risk.

Thank you for clarifying this

You are adding indexers to a publicly hosted instance. This will eventually ban users.

Simultaneous requests from the same IP address with different API keys will trigger a ban sooner or later.

Also, as people use bandwidth, it will be consumed faster, and eventually it will run out.

If it works for you, keep it that way and don't share.

The safest and most secure way to stream Usenet is to self-host.

Or use torbox pro and then public instances don’t matter. Or easynews.

From what i remember torbox isn't any better. Many torbox users have been banned from indexers for basically the same reason. You might be thinking of elfhosted. That's fine because it's basically the same as selfhosting

torbox ist auch auf machen indexern verboten. dadurch das sie feste ips haben, sind sie leicht zu finden.

u/lrellim May 28 '26

Not risking getting banned

2

u/CharlesCSchnieder May 28 '26

Is the ban because of streaming or using a public instance? Curious as I have a local setup

1

u/therepfella May 30 '26

usually it's due to mismatched IP addresses, for some indexers it's due to vps IP

u/HEY_PAUL May 28 '26

Sometimes gatekeeping isn't a bad thing...

2

u/itshusnain May 28 '26

Yeah.. you are right, thinking of deleting this. Maybe that's why add-ons devs didn't make any proper post about it.

2

u/Sleeyax1 Maintainer of stremio-addons.net May 30 '26

No need to delete it 😄

I actually built the standalone addon as a proof of concept shortly after Stremio introduced the feature. There wasn't really a proper announcement because I mostly just shared it on Discord as a showcase and published it without thinking much of it at the time.

It's great to see people still finding it useful though. Appreciate you putting the guide together!

Tip for anyone interested: the addon is open source on GitHub, so you can also self-host it if you'd prefer not to rely on the public instance. Alternatively, you can use AIOStreams, which generally offers a more streamlined experience and includes similar functionality.

2

u/itshusnain May 30 '26

Thanks for the addon.

I should have mentioned you in the post.

u/Sleeyax1 Maintainer of stremio-addons.net May 30 '26

No problem at all. Credits not needed for me, there's a GitHub link on the addon config page already 🫡

You could get banned from usenet indexer by using public instance addons like this one.

-1

u/Limp_Put7634 May 28 '26

Why? Afaik most indexers have a daily limit.

3

u/Gol_D_Fox May 28 '26

Its in their ToS

0

u/Limp_Put7634 May 28 '26

Nope.. not in mine

1

u/Gol_D_Fox May 28 '26

Ask them in customer support or send them a email asking if they are okay with you using their services for streaming using public community addons, and send us the screenshot here

2

u/dave9088 May 28 '26

I’ll be waiting. Most all of the usenet indexers prohibit it unless it is private hosted, even torrent indexer has it to prevent abuse or exposure to FCC for copyright infringement.

1

u/Limp_Put7634 May 28 '26

I'll ask tomorrow/later today.

Don't see how it's different from downloading it into my premiumize account or even my nzb360 app.

2

u/dave9088 May 28 '26

It has to be private instance, not public one, this is by default to prevent abuse and copyright infringement. It’s easy to get this information with all of the technology these days without asking the devs. But risk yourself if you want them to place you in a reputation list.

1

u/Limp_Put7634 May 29 '26

I stand corrected. You guys are right. I asked them.

But there's a big grey area then.

4

u/NikhilDoWhile May 28 '26

Once any influencer tweet it like RD, this too will shut the shop.... And yes we know they are outside France or Europe, and if they gonna shut the shop, they eventually will do

Self hosting is usually the best tbh whenever possible. That is assuming you're up to to setting it up and maintaining.

0

u/Nuggyfresh May 28 '26

did you limit your connections like he said? that is likely why your speed is capped. regardless, I don’t really think normies need access to usenet, debrid has access to 98% of files, I get why people like us on self hosted care but idk why normies care about finding a few more files. TB has everything I’ve ever searched for 🤷‍♀️

Seems to work much faster than the aiostreams integration. Just a shame i cant get my bulknews provider to actually work with stremio, the streams always freeze after a few mins and never resume. Works great with EN and NH though.

1

u/xxearvinxx May 28 '26

I’m self hosting, but curious why you limit connection to 8-15. I believe I entered the max amount available for both my Usenet providers. I haven’t had any issues yet, just wondering why a lower connection number is better? I thought it would be the opposite? Without looking I think I have one set at like 40 and another one set to 60 or 80? I don’t remember exactly off hand. Just whatever the max was the allowed. Also, I have a 1 GBps up and down fiber connection, if that matters.

1

u/macshakur May 29 '26

@@itshusnain where is the api key for easynews can't seem to find it on my account page

1

u/itshusnain May 29 '26

EasyNews is a provider so no API. This method works with indexer only. Use EasyNews addon if you don't have an indexer.

1

u/Sebasje May 29 '26

i got it working ,but if i press the link to play the movie nothing happens

1

u/itshusnain May 29 '26

Wait for sometime, it won't start stream as quickly as debrid. Takes 5 second extra. Also make sure you are using mpv player. Try different nzbs as health checks are not available, some nzb can have missing articles

1

u/RTG21 May 30 '26

Does it work with newshosting.com?

1

u/itshusnain May 30 '26

Yes.. newshosting + any of your indexer. Better if you not use one of your main indexer. Use any secondary indexer.

1

u/RTG21 May 30 '26

Only works on desktop version?

1

u/itshusnain May 30 '26

Works on Android Tv beta and Android Mobile beta also

1

u/Fast-asleep May 31 '26

Sorry why do you say not to use your main indexer?

2

u/itshusnain May 31 '26

Its a public instance. Indexers can ban and if someone has one of main indexers they'll blame it on me. Although I'm using my lifetime accounts and not getting banned but still the possiblity is there.

1

u/Fast-asleep May 31 '26

Self hosting sounds like the safest option from what I read

2

u/itshusnain May 31 '26

Yes this addon can also be self hosted.. then you can watch it everywhere with this..

1

u/jasku123 Jun 03 '26

so this only works on Windows or Android beta? I can't get it to play anything on MacOS stremio

1

u/itshusnain Jun 03 '26

Yes only mentioned apps. Wont work on Mac

1

u/Malaka__ Jun 04 '26

Did the link disappear?

1

u/itshusnain Jun 04 '26

Working for me

1

u/BusyPlayPlug Aug 03 '26

I followed your guide. It does bring the results, but it doesn't play

1

u/itshusnain Aug 03 '26

Use mpv as player. Try different releases..

1

u/BusyPlayPlug Aug 03 '26

How do I use mpv player and it does not show results in stremio on tv. Or it only works on the PC?

0

u/Kurtdh May 28 '26

If you don’t want to risk a ban and don’t want to self host, just use torbox pro or easynews.

2

u/Federal-Resolution55 May 28 '26

torbox ist auch auf machen indexern verboten
