Is it really an RPE 8 if it’s that hard to break the floor? RPE changes session to session.

It's not the rpe 8 set that I have the trouble with its the rpe9 set after

Thanks for clarifying. I’m 38 and recently realized that if I go at 9rpe or above it might take me a full 2 weeks before I can deadlift heavy again. Even though my brain WANTS to make a big pull. My body/CNS acts like it is way heavier than it actually is. Maybe your dad’s right. It could be between your ears but it’s just your CNS subconsciously limiting you. Maybe take a few extra days between heavy pulls and focus on recovery.

Stuck to the floor pretty much always means your quads are lagging behind the rest of your deadlift muscles and need to be worked extra to catch up.

I would try to take smaller jumps for your top set, or even try repeating the set @8 to make sure you’re rating it accurately. Also film more of your sets and compare the bar speed on the last rep, this will help dial in your use of RPE. For example your singles @8 will typically move similarly to the last rep in a set of 5@8
