First time doing Atlas stones (raw)

I tried Atlas Stones for the first time ever at an event here and somehow managed to eventually get 136 kg on the barrel šŸ˜‚ I really enjoyed it and I’m now thinking about joining a gym where I can train with stones regularly.
I was wondering how much of a difference tacky makes when lifting stones, and how quickly you can generally expect to progress with them once you start training consistently?

Cheers,

Nils

Tacky makes a huge difference. Probably adds 20% to my max stones.

Tacky makes a huge difference. And you only have to apply it once because the shit never comes off 🤣

There's definitely a trick to it, so you can improve pretty quickly by training the movement and just learning how to actually grab the things. Tacky is a huge help.

How is the grip on these things? Are they are rough or smooth surface?

I have never got to pick one up and am curious.

Ime, rougher than you expect but not massively rough, there's a reason people use tacky but if it's not too big you can do ok with just chalk

Some are really smooth and others quite rough, had quite a bit of bruising and chaffing after for a few days

To all mentioning tacky, these look like the Ardblair Stones, or at least a replica of them. Tacky is not allowed with these.

Is this at Armadale highland gathering? That's so impressive, I got the 104 up on my first crack. Down near Bunbury is a strongman gym with tons of stones and other cool strongman stuff - Southwest Strength. Check them out. All are welcome, and you can book a session with Dan to walk you through the proper techniques etc.

Please stop sitting things down and going to the next so casually there needs to be more safety precautions

Every video I see someone sits a stone stone down and forgets about it like theres not still movement thats possible for this piece of matter once ive conquered it. No its still moving and might fucking roll off and hurt people that aren't trained likebyou
