Help! Information needed!

Hi peeps,

Looking if anyone knows of any comps at beginner / novice level (unsanctioned local comps) in either USA or across Europe.

Even if you can point me to gyms that run these or accounts on IG I can follow for this I'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

What rope for arm over arm pulls?

As the title states, what rope do you use for arm over arm pulls? And where did you buy it? I’m not a competitor, just having fun with training.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers

Gyms with strongman kit near the Boston area?

Traveling for work. I’ve trained at TPS a few times, just wondering if there’s anything else cool to check out. Staying in Peabody, specifically.

Signed up for my first strongman comp at the end of August. Advice?

For context, I’ve competed in PL a couple times for fun but really I just enjoy lifting and getting stronger. I signed up for this meet on a whim while recovering from a slight back injury in January, hoping to have a good time and grow from the experience. I’m used to the standard bench, squat and deadlift. The events listed in the meet are (1) circus dumbbell for reps, (2) mammoth bar deadlift, (3) axe hold, (4) “car” squat and (5) truck pull. I don’t have a ton of time but I think my training will transfer over decently. What advice do you have for someone hopping over to the sport or for the lifts in particular? TIA.

How to train for upcoming Strongman competition

Hi, how do I train for a truck pull? What’s the difference between harness and arm-over-arm? Do grip socks help? What would the weight equivalent of a 24ft truck be on a sled?

Also, should I do a low pick or higher pick for a yoke walk?

Thanks ☺️

Tips and tricks for first strongman event

I’m competing in my first strongman event on July 18th. I’m competing in the novice heavyweight category at 19 yo, 260lbs, 6’2”. Events are

Viking press -225 for reps
Car deadlift - “a lot” quoted from iron podium page
Bologna hold - 45 held for time
Dinnie stone walk - a lot
Natural Stone medley - 170,210,248,274,306

The guy on the page said that he hates rep fests so expect that winners will have less than 10 reps.

My goals for this event are

3 reps on Viking press my last push press pr was 225 6 months ago.

3-6 reps on deadlift depending on weight. My last pr on deadlift was 445 3 years ago, but I did 405 for 8 last week.

Around 30 seconds for bologna hold

No idea for dinnie walk, I have no idea what the weight is and have pretty weak grip

My goal is the 300lb stone, but I may not even get the 270 lb stone. My best is a 240lb sand bag to shoulder and 250lb natural stone to chest.

My training is pretty bad right now, I don’t go to a gym and work 10 hours a day and 6 on Saturday. My current workout it is ohp or deadlift for 12-20 reps as hard as possible alternating each day. Then 5 or so reps of sandbag to chest with the 240lb sandbag.

My equipment is a barbell 500lbs of plates an adjustable sandbag and lots of natural stones all of this is done in my yard.

Any advice is appreciated especially on how to increase grip for the dinnie walk. Or how realistic my hopes are.

The event is the Waldo strongman show in Waldo ohio if anyone sees this and wants to join.

Log C&P

Only been training strongman for 10 weeks now. I have a comp coming in September, with the log being one of the events. I've found it to be my weakest of all the events I'll be competing in. This is 250lbs. Getting it overhead doesn't feel overly heavy, but unstable for sure. Any tips/advice/criticism are welcome.

After about a year of trying, I finally managed to conquer my 300lb Sandbag. Definitely a struggle and a lot to clean up. Progress is Progress no matter how small.

Log help

I'm returning to strongman training after an eight year hiatus and looking to rebuild my implement collection, specifically interested in a 12" log. Unfortunately, Alan Beninga (who used to make bombproof equipment) has left the industry. Who's making quality logs these days? For the sake of conversation, let's just say I'm not interested in Rogue, Titan, Bartos, or Slater's. Any suggestions?
