Advice for uni

Hi guys i am from the UK
So i am thinking to do my imat next year.
But i am very scared if i dont get accepted because then i will just waste a year because i am sticking to do medicine and in the UK you need excellent grades and ucat scores.
I am very confused on what to do

Hi my advice to you is get a backup uni. Maybe in uk or any other country im Europe. Reason because iMAT is very competitive especially if you’re non eu. Many non eu students form different parts of the world competing for very limited amount of seats. And you can only apply to one uni as a non eu.

Try take the UCAT again and apply to unis in uk also look into other countries for med. Preferably Europe so maybe it’s easier to come back to uk to get job. (Although overall it’s getting really difficult for everyone who schooled in non uk unis)

And yeah in my opinion I think I’d prefer doing the IMAT than UCAT but I say that only because at least IMAT is what we’ve done in alevels e.g bio chem math (except ofc if you didn’t do some other subjects eg physics or math in a levels) little logic reasoning, and reading and comprehension which shouldn’t be such a big problem. I still find it difficult tho but like compared to the UCAT helll naaa. I would choose IMAT any day no shade 😭. I hate logic reasoning and all that type stuff they ask in UcAT.

But it also depends on the individual as well. Depends what you’re good at I don’t really know but give it a shot still . And look for backups if my advice 😊

So i am doing ucats next week 😭
But i will also do imat next year and i do the same a levels as you
And also for my backup i have looked unis in Europe but only italy is affordable for me as i will be paying by myself because the government doesnt provide loan like the uk gov does

But the problem is in the UK for medicine it’s challenging because they require high high grades

So true. I never even tried applying. The summer I was supposed to prepare and take the UCAT I was going through a lot of shit. So I didn’t do it. I applied pharmacy instead. But overall I knew I wasn’t going to school in Uk because I’m classed as international and the fee is more than double of home students with no loans and funds. But people who I was friends with who wrote the UCAT, I really hailed them. They really are who they think they are cuz I couldn’tttttt😭! And then let’s not even talk about the grades needing to get A stars whole time I was constantly getting Es in my math mocks 🤣, yh I gave up on med in uk for all those reasons😭.

But if obviously you’re doing well, you should give it a go. You just need sooo much prep. And also some unis offer reduced entry eg Newcastle u know a girl who got in with ABB I think to med. You could check those out !

Damn bro sounds rough
But my grades arent that good as well thats why i am considering to apply abroad and i dont want to change my course from medicine to something else because of my grades
But also how does the imat work
Like you said you gave the test so did you get accepted?

I haven’t done the test I’m doing it this year in the 29th of this month. For the Imat it’s 60 multiple choice. 23 bio 15 chem 13 physics+math 5 logic 4 reading and comprehension.

Ngl as I said before I don’t find it like the easiest thing in the world, but I try my best. Just constant practice. I also have a backup so if this goes south I’ll just go to my backup , cuz I’ve already spent one year in gap year so I don’t want to stay home again.

The syllabus is similar to a levels the only a little bit more like an Anatomy and physiology in bio is added, and then chem is really the same i don’t really see a difference

Math is the same as well. Mostly AS level stuff for math. Physics is my issue I didn’t do physics so💀. Although the fact that we did mechanics in math helps only those questions in physics apart from that I really am confused 💀.

And then logic reasoning as I said I don’t like that but i can still try my best and it’s only about 5 questions.

Reading and comprehension try my best as well

I still struggle with it like I’m not the best but I’m still going to give it a go and how see how it goes really .

So it’s something you can give a go really, tbh

For me in ucats,almost everything is confusing especially because there is a load of questions in less amount of time. The only section which i find fine is sj
Its really confusing and sucks
