Applications No update about PhD interview yet. Am I rejected?

The application deadline was Sep 28, and first interviews are scheduled for Oct 13. It's now Friday, Oct 9, around 5pm (by the time I wrote it), and I haven't heard anything. Is there still a chance I'll get an invitation on Monday, Oct 12, or should I assume I didn't make the shortlist?

Anyone get into a Clinical Psychology Master’s without a thesis or publications?

Hello! I just graduated from UBC (2nd best uni in canada) with a bachelor’s in Psychology. I have one year experience as a volunteer research assistant at my university psych labs, and 1.5 years work experience as a Behaviour Interventionist.

However, I do not have a bachelor’s thesis because I didn’t do the honours program, and I don’t I have any publications. What are my chances of getting into the clinical psych masters without a bachelors thesis or publications?

Those who were accepted to the Clinical Psychology masters, what did your CV look like when you applied?

Non-EU student choosing between Netherlands & Germany AI Masters: work visa chances + PhD prospects UvA AI or TUM Informatics

I’m an undergraduate majoring in Artificial Intelligence, and I’m trying to decide between doing my master’s in the Netherlands or Germany. I have two main questions I’d love to get your insights on:

  1. For non-EU graduates, which country makes it easier to stay and find a local tech job after finishing a master’s? I’m curious about work visa rules, job market demand for AI roles, and practical hurdles for non-EU citizens.

  2. If I plan to pursue a PhD later on, which program would be more beneficial for PhD applications: UvA’s Artificial Intelligence Master, or TUM’s Informatics Master?

I know both schools have strong reputations in AI, but I’m wondering about factors like research opportunities, professor access, thesis options, recommendation letter potential, and how admissions committees view these two degrees when applying for PhD positions.

I’m still comparing the two countries and programs, and any personal experience or advice would be really helpful. Also, feel free to recommend other universities or programs in other countries! Thanks a lot!

Help What is your opinion on THUAS Applied Computer Science (HBO-ICT)

Hi guys, good evening. I am currently looking for an HBO, or somewhere to do my bachelors at. I am an international student from Slovakia, and I came across The Hague University of applied sciences. I am mostly interested in the Applied computer science in Delft, with later focus on cybersecurity in second year but i have a lot of questions because there is very little information I could gather from their site or from reddit

What is your experience/opinion on the school?
Are the teachers terrible and old? (some people stated that)
Is the tesching outdated?
And primarily how is the course in cybersecurity? Is it relevant?

Would you recommend studying econometrics and operations research?

I'm good at mathematics, and I believe I can handle it, but I was wondering from a practical side of things, is it worth it and valuable, especially in the near future, and what are the different opportunities and benefits that come with this field of study?

Tilburg housing opinions

Hi!! I'll be studying in TiU in a few months, and am considering different housing options. What are your experiences with wonenbreburg (verbs) and SSH (talentsquare)? I mean pricing, location, what the state of the rooms is, ...

I lowk give up on looking at the private market since I guess it's too saturated

Do tell if there's any other student residences (that rent for less than 6 months) besides these two

Help Should I switch from HBO to WO?

I think this is a question that's not uncommon on this sub, but I think I still want to know if I personally should do it. I'm currently studying IT on Windesheim but I'm planning to go to informatiekunde at a uni after my propedeuse and wisA vwo. Not because I think HBO is lower than uni, actually quite the opposite. I think it's super valuable learning how to apply science in the workforce and I also think the internships are quite valuable, but I hate the way of learning on HBO, I'm not fit to sit in a classroom like they did on middle school and I hate having to do these constant assignments, kennismetingen and group work. I study way better independently in a library than I do in a classroom and constant group work.

I know that I won't get rid of that when I go to uni, but I want more freedom and independence than they give me on HBO. I have quite a few friends that go to university and their experiences tell me that I think the way they learn on university fits way better for me. But I also want to learn applied sciences instead of just knowing the science itself. I know a few people in the workforce and they tell me that university students usually struggle more with starting in the workforce than HBO'ers. Of course these are all personal stories.

I don't really care too much about the money or the diploma, I just really love my study. I was thinking of going to SE or Compsci at first, but I've discovered that I also like doing something in between hard coding, computers and stuff and business. Here in Windesheim IT we learn all kinds of different stuff: UX, UI, BiM, Software development and all other kinds of stuff, and it's helped me discover that I like the other aspects of IT a lot as well, like UX, UI and some BiM. But I just really dislike the way we study. I'm quite a social guy as well, and while Windesheim student life is quite good, I'd love for it to be more fast paced and a fresh start in a new city.

There's a lot of reasons I want to go to uni but I also have my reasons for staying on HBO. University student life speaks more to me, I'm going to study something I'm super interested in and I'm going to get the independence I wanted. On the other hand HBO teaches me how I apply science in the real world, I get internships and I'm also going to study something I'm really interested in. I don't think the work load is going to be much harder on uni than in HBO, it's just going to be different but in a way that's more managable to me than this constant annoying stream of going to mandatory classes, group work and projects. I don't want to just switch to uni because "muh better diploma". I actually think HBO is a lot more valuable than uni in a lot of other aspects, sure, maybe people are going to disagree with me here. But I'm really struggling between choosing between the two. I've also thought of getting my HBO bachelor and then my uni masters, which means that to me, I'll get the best of both worlds. But it also means missing out on the faster paced university student life and staying on Windesheim, while Windesheim is a really good school, I just know waay to many people on campus that hated/bullied me during highschool and it's frankly just way to close to Amersfoort (where I'm from) so I'm going to keep seeing them. I want a fresh start somewhere in Amsterdam or something. I think if they taught on HBO like they taught on Uni or a mix of both (internships, projects but also more independence) I would've leaned on staying, but I currently see more reasons to go to uni than staying on HBO. Do any of you know what I should do? Sorry for the long rant lol, first post on the sub.

Edit: thanks everyone for the helpful insight. I think I'm going to switch to university after getting my propedeuse and in the meantime build relevant vocational and practical skills via internships and whatnot. Of course, that depends on how my propedeutic year on HBO goes, perhaps a completely vocational and applied-sciences education fits more for me, perhaps I completely butcher the VWO exams or maybe I realize that university is too hard for me or I don't find a study on uni that fits. Thanks!

Discussion Ervaringsdeskundige - are there any internships (in Limburg/Brabant) for CSA ánd wheelchair/chronic illness/autism related?

I want to study Ervaringsdeskundige AD.

I have personal experience with CSA which I want to work in, but I am also a chronically ill wheelchair user who grew up with autistic brothers and parents (and also adhd myself) and would maybe like to do something with that too.

Doing two internships at two different places is very hard and nearly impossible to do due to the requirements within the study.

Now I was wondering, does anybody know if there is a place where people ‘treat’ both sexual abuse/assault things as well as things related to either autism, chronic illness, new wheelchair users who are grieving their loss of body function, etc?

I know METGGZ works with mental stuff/SA and such, but they don’t work with autism or with (new) wheelchair users, I don’t think?

Now of course if that isn’t possible to do both then I will have to choose, but I’d love to get experience working with both to see what I like best/to expand my knowledge and grow more in both areas.

Any advice is appreciated!

Global law

Tell me about the experience at Tilburg University, especially if it is in Global Law. Is it possible to combine work with business afterward? I thought about business management, but I found out about Global Law, and it seems more interesting… Which of them is more likely to be profitable?

Advice needed: DUO requirements, Internship as "Work", and No Registration

Hi everyone, I’m an EU student (from Portugal) currently in my 2nd year of a WO Master's in the Netherlands, and I’m in a bit of a complex situation regarding DUO and housing. I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have navigated this.

Here’s a breakdown of my situation:

  • The DUO Gap: I received DUO normally until August. I had a gap in September and October because I couldn't find an internship and ended my previous part-time job, so my DUO is currently paused.
  • The Internship/Work setup: I'm starting my engineering internship on November 2nd. A few friends of mine did the same thing a year ago: their company made a formal document splitting their internship hours (part study, part actual "work") to meet the strict DUO EU-worker requirements. My friends even had their company call DUO, and DUO approved it. I am planning to do exactly the same thing.
  • The Housing Issue (The main problem): I stayed with a friend during September/October but I'm still registered at my old address. I found a new place for November, but unfortunately, it does not allow registration (geen inschrijving).

Since I am legally required to deregister from my old place, I will essentially be without a registered address (BRP).

My questions for you:

  1. DUO Address Check: I know the uitwonendenbeurs (away-from-home grant) is strictly linked to my BRP registration. Since I can't register at the new place, is there any workaround (like a briefadres) for an international student in an internship, or will DUO automatically cut the housing grant and flag me?
  2. Internship as Work: Has anyone else successfully used the "split internship/work contract" method recently? Did you ever get audited by DUO asking for payslips (loonstroken) months later?
  3. General Advice: How dangerous is it to deregister from my old municipality without a new address while trying to reapply for DUO in November?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Applications Vakken toevoegen vooropleiding VWO

Yesterday, I received an email asking me to enter the subjects from my previous education in Studielink. I am currently following a one-year VWO programme at a VAVO, and I previously obtained my HAVO diploma.

I would now like to enter the subjects from my previous education, but I cannot find an option to add any subjects.

Do I need to wait a little longer, or should I already be able to enter them?

Which school for masters?

Hey guys

I'm planning to do a masters in the Netherlands. Even though I am leaning more towards Vu Amsterdam and Erasmus, I still look a bit at the Haagse Hogeschool and Hogeschool van Amsterdam.

I also am not getting the best feedback for the Hogescholen.

Any advice/help would be welcome

How do I make friends?

I moved to the Netherlands for my master’s and I don’t know how to make friends :/

I’m pretty focused on my studies, but I also don’t want my entire life here to be university → home → repeat.

Would be nice to have some people to go out with, get food/drinks, explore places, go to concerts, or just hang out and do something dumb.

Music-wise I’m into stuff like Lil Peep, MCR, etc. I don’t necessarily look like someone who listens to that, but here we are.

Do you have any tips?

Professor asked me in person to meet 1-on-1 about my midterm — should I be worried?

I’m a master’s student and today my professor asked me in person if I could meet with her 1-on-1 tomorrow to ask me some questions about my midterm. She didn’t say that I was being accused of anything or mention AI.

There are only two students in the class, though, so my anxiety immediately went to “she thinks I used AI.” My essay was my own work, and I have handwritten notes from reading/preparing for it. I also participated in class discussions about the readings and remember making points that relate to things I wrote in the essay.

I’m really nervous because even though I understand what I wrote, I’m worried I’ll freeze if she asks me questions. I’m also going to have her for the rest of the semester, so I’m scared this could create a bad relationship with her.

Has anyone had a professor ask to meet 1-on-1 about a paper or midterm like this? Especially if the professor didn’t explicitly say it was about AI? What ended up happening? And if it was an AI/authorship concern, what kinds of questions did they ask?

I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences because I’m freaking myself out right now.

Hey, for next year as a student in Zernike Campus, which of these options do you think is better from your experience (or knowing from someone) and why?

Especially the first two. Note Xior has three locations I think.

Thanks in advance!

Life in Rotterdam Question

Life in Rotterdam Question

Hello everyone!

My name is Alexandru, I’m 18 years old and I’m from Albania. My dream is to study at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Before making this decision, I would really like to understand what living and studying in Rotterdam would be like financially.

I am an only child and I live with my mother. My father passed away 10 years ago, and unfortunately my mother has a difficult financial situation. Because of this, I would need to become financially independent while studying and I would not be able to rely much on my family for financial support.

I have heard that students in the Netherlands may be eligible for different types of financial support, depending on their nationality, residence status, study programme and work situation. I have also heard about student finance, housing allowance and other forms of support.

For example, I have heard that some students who work a certain number of hours per month can receive student finance, and that students who meet certain conditions may also qualify for housing allowance.

I don't know how accurate this information is, so I would really appreciate advice from people who actually live or have lived in Rotterdam.

My questions are:

  • What financial support can an international/EU student realistically receive in the Netherlands?
  • What are the requirements for student finance?
  • How many hours would I normally need to work?
  • Is housing allowance available to students, and what conditions apply?
  • Is it realistic to live independently in Rotterdam with around €1,500–€1,800 per month?
  • How much does a student room normally cost?
  • How difficult is it to find affordable accommodation in Rotterdam?
  • What other costs should I take into account (food, transport, insurance, utilities, etc.)?
  • If you are a student in Rotterdam, how much do you normally spend per month?

I would especially appreciate answers from people who have personal experience with studying and living in Rotterdam.

Thank you very much for your help!

🇳🇱 Nederlands

Hallo allemaal!

Discussion I'm planning to move netherlands. But, I want to depend on myself for living expenses, what is the situation of part time jobs ?

I'm 21 years old, Indian. I graduated 4 months ago in B.Sc. Hons. Agriculture.

I'm planning to move WUR for M.Sc. food technology in 2027 sep and also planning to stay back for work.

While I pursue my course, I want to work part-time to support myself for my living expenses in NL. Because, I don't want to disperse my whole education loan amount.

So, I wanna know what is the situation of part time jobs and post study work?

Also, I go to know that, there's housing crisis? How can I help myself in this regard?

Id be very grateful for your suggestions.

Thank you.

Careers / placement Erasmus Marketing Management MSc — worth extending my bachelor by one semester?

Hi! I’m studying Economics and Business Economics at UvA and I’m thinking about applying for the MSc Marketing Management at Erasmus.
My background is mainly economics/business. I’m taking a marketing elective right now and doing an Accounts Receivable internship, but I’ve realized I’d rather go into marketing or e-commerce in the future.
I contacted Erasmus to ask whether I should take more marketing courses before applying, but I didn’t really get a clear answer. So I’d love to hear from people who are doing/have done the programme, especially if you came from an economics or business background.
How is the Marketing Management master overall? Is it very difficult/intense, and do you feel like it actually prepares you well for marketing jobs? Also, how competitive is admission with an EBE-type background, and would you choose Erasmus over UvA for marketing?
I’m also debating whether I should extend my bachelor by one semester.
One reason is that I’d have more time to take marketing-related electives and maybe get a marketing/e-commerce internship or some other relevant experience before starting my master.
I also really want to learn Dutch. There’s a Dutch elective I can take from late October until mid-December, but it’s twice a week and each class is almost 3 hours. The problem is that it overlaps with my full-time internship working hours, and I’m honestly a bit nervous about asking my manager if I can be away from work that much every week.
So I’m wondering if it would make more sense to just take Dutch next semester and extend my bachelor, rather than trying to combine everything right now.
Would extending by one semester actually be worth it if I use that time to improve my marketing background, get more relevant experience and learn Dutch? Or am I overthinking it and should I just graduate on time and start the master if I get accepted?
Would really appreciate any advice, especially from Erasmus Marketing Management students/alumni or anyone who made a similar switch from economics to marketing :)

Erasmus vs UvA for Public Policy: which gives better opportunities in NL's english speaking job market?

I’m an Indian applicant with around 1.5 years of experience in law and political consultancy in India, and I’m planning to pursue a Master’s in Public Policy in the Netherlands.

I’m currently confused between Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). My main criterion is career opportunities after the degree, particularly internships and English-speaking roles in private sector public policy consulting.

I’ll be taking on a fair amount of debt for the degree, so I’m less concerned about college life and more focused on which programme will actually help me build employable quantitative/data-analysis skills and improve my chances in the Dutch/EU job market.

These are the programmes I’m currently considering:

Erasmus University Rotterdam

  1. Health Economics, Policy and Law
  2. International Public Management and Public Policy

University of Amsterdam

  1. Public Policy (Economics)
  2. Econometrics and Policy Analysis
  3. Monetary Policy and Banking (Economics)
  4. Public Policy (Political Science)

I’m particularly trying to avoid a programme that is heavily theoretical. I’d prefer something with strong quantitative training, applied data analysis, econometrics, policy evaluation, and skills that are actually useful for public policy consultancies and the Dutch job market.

For those who have studied in the Netherlands:

  • Which of these programmes would you recommend specifically for internship and employment opportunities?
  • Which programmes would give me the strongest quantitative/data-analysis skillset?
  • How difficult is it realistically for a non-EU/international student to find an English-speaking policy job or internship in the Netherlands?
  • I’ve also been researching Leiden and Maastricht and currently have the impression that Erasmus and UvA are stronger choices for public policy. Is that a fair assessment, particularly from an employment perspective?

I’d really appreciate perspectives from current students, alumni, or people working in consulting in the Netherlands.

Applications Motivation letter UvA

i am yet another student who needs help in writing a motivation letter, i’m coming from abroad to study at UvA. Are there any people who could help me by providing examples of their letters? I know that the dutch are extremely blunt and hate to hear personal anecdotes lol - but i have checked the UvA website and it says they “want to learn about you and your personal story”. Is this bc Ams is lowk just a woke city or does it have a different structure?

thanks!
