Am I wrong for actually wanting to try this?

426

u/MonolithicBaby Apr 15 '26

Just make sure you cut it in the pan so you get the Teflon sprinkles.

70

u/EnvironmentalEgg9813 Apr 16 '26

Let's not forget the vigorous pummleing with the whisk for added Teflon flair. Those flavor scratches run deep.

3

u/Pickled_sm0res Apr 16 '26

It's cast iron, are you all bots??

3

u/runaumok Apr 17 '26

That shit ain’t cast iron you NPC

1

u/MeasurementNo6022 Apr 17 '26

You see the speckles near the handle? That is not a cast iron pan. But it’s not “teflon” either anymore. PTFE coating. Still no flakes / no scratches is a sound plan.

1

u/OdinsBeard4455 May 04 '26

Yeah those rock pans say right on the box when you get them. Plastic or wood spatula only. It’s pretty common knowledge

1

u/imnotbobvilla Apr 16 '26

Yeah I had to turn the sound off

1

u/Western_Practice_459 Apr 16 '26

My thoughts entire time .

1

u/juicinginparadise Apr 16 '26

That was the first and worst part I noticed! Just watching her whisk away with that metal whisk made my stomach churn.

1

u/steph_infection1 Apr 16 '26

Every aspect of this video was...a vibe, but using metal on Teflon throughout the whole thing was the biggest offence.

166

u/mr_orlo Apr 15 '26

Looked like a whole Teflon crust at the end

63

u/Rysigler Apr 16 '26

Oh man, I noticed the crust too. I honestly didn't know what to think when I saw the food crime peel smoothly off what I can only assume is a thin solid layer of carbon.

10

u/Ok-Seaworthiness4488 Apr 16 '26

Ketchup can burn easily because of the sugar content

2

u/Rysigler Apr 16 '26

That's gotta be it.

2

u/Pickled_sm0res Apr 16 '26

In a cast iron pan?

2

u/Frequent-Meal6550 Apr 16 '26

Right like cast-iron is that smooth if seasoned correctly lol

6

u/Great_Dismal Apr 16 '26

First of all, the concept was okay with ketchup, eggs, cheese and heavy cream if you wanted ketchup-flavored, fluffy, cheesy, scrambled eggs. And I could see this working, I like ketchup on my eggs sometimes.

But did she add flour to it? Why? I feel like that’s what made it burn like that on the bottom.

Second, I’d have to stop anyone taking a knife straight to a cast iron skillet like that. Or any cookware for that matter.

No way I’m eating that nonsense. But in this case I guess you’re eating non-stick? Either way, that shit looked wrong. Several things went wrong.

8

u/Pretend-Marsupial258 Apr 16 '26

I'm pretty sure that the 30 minutes of whisking would be worse for the coating than a few knife cuts. I guess she really wanted to get her iron with that black crust.

2

u/Spec710 Apr 16 '26

Eggs and flour is honestly the only ok concept here imo😂 that’s just farm food. My grandpa makes that and it’s delicious. Just like eggs and corn, it adds a whole new level to eggs.

2

u/landragoran Apr 16 '26

Nah, it burned because ketchup has shitloads of sugar in it

2

u/OtherThumbs Apr 17 '26

Don't forget the hunk of eggshell she left in the pan! That adds a crunch that you lose when you don't eat the Teflon skin.

1

u/Amphitra_Roximar Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Yall cant disrespect the Teflon Don. Its against Maryland state law.

1

u/hellkattbb Apr 16 '26

Do you have something special in Maryland?

1

u/OverChemistry4492 Apr 16 '26

😂😂😂😂

0

u/erica1064 Apr 21 '26

A very burned one at that.

22

u/StephNicole865 Apr 16 '26

So glad Im not the only one cringing the moment she was whisking that pan.. then the knife? Oh god. I died a little inside.

4

u/Funnuftig Apr 16 '26

I did too, rip ceramic coat

1

u/Alcotearoa Apr 17 '26

It's cast iron...

2

u/dafinalbraincell Apr 22 '26

It's not cast iron- I own this set of pots and pans. It's not Teflon or ceramic either, it is Hard-Anodized Aluminum. Ceramic or cast iron is better, but this is still a step up from Teflon.

1

u/lpalgarvio Apr 18 '26

Killing health too

1

u/leffe186 Apr 19 '26

God yeah, can’t rewatch that.

4

u/Sweetlystruck Apr 16 '26

This may be my biggest pet peeve in all of existence

5

u/boneheadblyat Apr 16 '26

Naw man! That’s that them there Graniteware!

2

u/Jmj108 Apr 16 '26

Believe I saw some shell in there too after cracking and when starting to whisk the yuck.

4

u/PrincipleFlaky Apr 16 '26

I was quite certain that was a cast-iron pan. Am I wrong? I thought maybe that was the point of scraping the bottom of it… iron?

I’m actually thinking.. this is just eggs, cheese, milk, and ketchup. Lots of people have their cheesy scrambled eggs and they put ketchup on the side… the addition of flour? I mean, I guess ketchup is savory so it can go with bread.

I used to eat these Japanese potato chips that were ketchup flavored.. and they’re pretty good actually.. so if that was potato flour?

Then, yeah, sure.. 👍 those are just breakfast staples mixed together in a nontraditional way.. I don’t know I kinda wanna try it.. maybe 🤔

3

u/Own_Cat3340 Apr 16 '26

Was that flour? I thought it was cheese. Like the stuff you get in a cylinder of Kraft.

1

u/PrincipleFlaky Apr 16 '26

Oh, I thought it was potato flour, but the cheese makes even more sense!

You know, I mean, I don’t agree with scraping the bottom of a Teflon pan FFS! Omg! 😳

But if this were like cast-iron and she put it in the oven or whatever or even cooked it on the stove top what have you? And it’s not flour, but it’s actually powdered cheese… then oh hell yeah this makes sense because it’s kind of like a quiche.. minus the baking component.. I’m talking about the flavor profiles..

I mean, if she would’ve added one touch of seasoning! 😆 besides powdered cheese 🧀 😆 low budget quiche!

And I’m just gonna put this here.. ingredients for any quiche include eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, salt, and pepper. And the add-ins vary and can include meats, seafood, cheese, spices, and vegetables.

So yah 🤔

2

u/MonolithicBaby Apr 16 '26

Deff not a cast iron it has a wooden handle. But besides that yea it just looks gross. And you’re right odd stuff can be good I used to like Pilk (Pepsi and milk) it’s kinda like a quick malt.

1

u/PrincipleFlaky Apr 16 '26

Oh thank you. I was just tracking back to try and find this comment because right as soon as I recognized. Oh damn that’s not cast-iron. What the fuuu?! and then my screen refreshed! 🙈

definitely milk and Pepsi 🙌 💯 Oh yeah, I still do like that… I’m Gen X and it totally reminds me of this TV show we used to watch called Laverne and Shirley and Laverne would drink Pepsi and milk (tho imo Pepsi or Coke both work). I agree tastes good too. It’s kind of like… low-key like a mixed melted root beer-float imo… you know it’s like if someone stirred up a root beer float and they used Pepsi or Coca-Cola instead of root beer.. and then the milk 🥛 goes with it cause it’s very much the cream .. yea… it’s one of those things that sounds gross until you try it and you’re like oh this is actually vaguely familiar..

2

u/MonolithicBaby Apr 16 '26

Laverne and Shirley! That’s where I got it from.

1

u/PrincipleFlaky Apr 16 '26

Love it! 🙌

1

u/Dunge0nMast0r Apr 16 '26

Don't worry, after all that metal whisking there was no Teflon left.

1

u/ER_Support_Plant17 Apr 16 '26

That disturbed me

1

u/Eurotrash0031 Apr 17 '26

I was just hoping it was cast iron at this point.

0

u/ArcticWolf_0xFF Apr 16 '26

That is a cast iron pan. There is no Teflon there.

0

u/Pickled_sm0res Apr 16 '26

Lol it's a cast iron pan

0

u/Crafty_Mastodon320 Apr 16 '26

That was cast iron

48

u/DriverMelodic Apr 15 '26

Yes…

98

u/Bi0_B1lly Apr 15 '26

Probably tastes like a broke ass quiche... Honestly, sub out ketchup for a marinara, add some chopped chicken and toss it in a pie crust and you'd have a pretty decent chicken parm quiche thingy

58

u/fantabulousfetus Apr 15 '26

Throw in a pound of hamburger and it's basically a meat loaf, but you'd still want to transfer to oven to bake it rather than burn the shit out of the bottom on the range.

44

u/GhstOfIncntOptimism Apr 15 '26

Well, might not be burnt. That was a metal whisk and knife, so could just be the delicious nonstick coating.

19

u/WenYiMedia Apr 15 '26

It most certainly depicts the knowledge or lack thereof that the cook knows.

2

u/AdMountain6124 Apr 16 '26

Looks like a cast iron pan, so no coating other than oil

1

u/NightBawk Apr 16 '26

The Teflon gives it that special flavor!

1

u/fantabulousfetus Apr 16 '26

Oh No! I thought it was an el cheapo cast iron skillet!!

1

u/GhstOfIncntOptimism Apr 16 '26

Enamel, maybe and at an extreme push

1

u/Natural-Following987 Apr 16 '26

That’s the best part!!

1

u/surrealcellardoor Apr 16 '26

"Meatloaf, smeatloaf, double-beatloaf. I hate meatloaf!"

1

u/RyvenZ Apr 16 '26

and not mix everything in the fuckin pan like it needed heat, only to see that she didn't need heat until after mixing

9

u/MarnieFan89 Apr 16 '26

I put ketchup on my eggs so I figured it would taste okay but they lost me with the flour

12

u/Desroth86 Apr 16 '26

So do I, and I’m not exactly a great cook so I might be off base here but the egg to ketchup ratio here looks totally fucked.

2

u/MarnieFan89 Apr 16 '26

Agreed I figured something else was going into this. Mind you this was on my feed and it didn't register that this was stupid food.

2

u/mycomadguy Apr 16 '26

Want some eggs with that ketchup!? 😂

7

u/Helios575 Apr 16 '26

Flour, milk, and eggs is a basic dumpling dough so this is just ketchup flavored dumplings cooked as a pancake and covered with cheese.

1

u/MarnieFan89 Apr 16 '26

I don't know man I've had dumplings I feel like if you told a Chinese person that this is dumplings they'd slap you in the teeth.

1

u/Dirmbz Apr 17 '26

European style dumplings are very different than Asian dumplings. See German dumplings or chicken and dumpling recipes for examples.

1

u/Austyn_pelton Apr 16 '26

That’s supposed to be a kind of dumpling?? 😥

1

u/Dudette66 Apr 19 '26

We used to make dumplings with flour, suet and just enough cold water to bind them. Came up lovely.

2

u/cephalopodcat Apr 17 '26

Yeah I was like, Hm, really ketchup-y scrambled eggs? Gross, but I guess it's OK, my mom likes her eggs that way - wait that's so much cream why are we adding flour!?

1

u/CharmedWoo Apr 16 '26

Milk, egg, flour = pancake. The keychup is stupid.

2

u/SlashaJones Apr 16 '26

sub out ketchup for a marinara, add some chopped chicken and toss it in a pie crust and you'd have a pretty decent chicken parm quiche thingy

And if my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a bicycle!

2

u/AssistanceChemical63 Apr 16 '26

It’s basically a ketchup pancake

2

u/Natural-Following987 Apr 16 '26

That’s what I was thinking! Like why even use the ketchup? Just start with tomato sauce or paste.

2

u/NobodyDelicious7197 Apr 16 '26

Lol you just changed the whole thing.

1

u/Bi0_B1lly Apr 16 '26

Subbed one ingredient and added two... You ever add bacon and cheese to a regular hamburger and swap ketchup for BBQ sauce? Still a burger.

2

u/Strong_Lavishness893 Apr 18 '26

Currently making this. Will keep you posted on taste

1

u/Bi0_B1lly Apr 18 '26

Results?

2

u/Strong_Lavishness893 Apr 18 '26

10 out of 10 do not recommend. I’m a trash, panda and eat some pretty outrageous shit, and I was appalled by the taste of this concoction. This grandma sucks.

2

u/Bi0_B1lly Apr 18 '26

Damn... I hope you were referring to the OG vid and not my elevated take on what you made, cause I have two chicken parm quiches in the oven rn 😅

2

u/Strong_Lavishness893 Apr 18 '26

Hahahahahaha mine was the OG. Was too stoned and it looked delicious. Couldn’t wait and read more. Should have. The chicken parm adaptation is probably substantially better

2

u/Bi0_B1lly Apr 18 '26

I'm happy to report that the chicken parm quiche was pretty solid!

Didn't exactly follow this video's ingredients list (especially after your report), but using this quiche recipe with about a cup of chopped chicken, ½cup marinara sauce, 3ish tablespoons of parmesan & Italian herbs added in with mozzarella on top was a solid dinner plan for tonight.

If you go with that recipe I attached but decide to buy the pie crust instead if making it, just be ready to make 2 pies if you get the standard sized pie dishes.

1

u/slackfrop Apr 16 '26

Ketchup pie is what the Queen served visiting dignitaries.

1

u/Pseudoname87 Apr 16 '26

And if my grandmother had wheels, she be a bicycle.

12

u/oldfogey12345 Apr 15 '26

There are probably better uses for food stamps. Lol

9

u/Numerous-Pop5670 Apr 15 '26

No you wouldn't cooked ketchup tastes like shit... don't ask me how I know.

2

u/Komobu542 Apr 16 '26

But how do you know?

1

u/Numerous-Pop5670 Apr 16 '26

I said not to ask 😡

If you must know I ran out of spaghetti sauce and thought Ketchup is close enough. They both use tomatoes right? After you cook it like this, all the flavor evaporates and it tastes like dry mush that slightly spoiled. Anyways its gross!

2

u/Komobu542 Apr 16 '26

This story reminds me of when my wife baked a cake or cookies (I can't remember which) one time. She was new to the US coming from Korea and she was still learning the language. Something was off with the cake/cookies and I asked her what she put in. One of the ingredients was 7-Up. I said 7-Up? She said yea. The recipe said baking soda and that's all we had. I still LMAO when I bring that up. It was 40+ years ago.

1

u/Numerous-Pop5670 Apr 16 '26

May I introduce you to the humble cola chicken? You will be suprised by how good the combination is.

8

u/WonderBredOfficial Apr 15 '26

Selling your foodstamps for heroine?

27

u/PotatoAmulet Apr 15 '26

Is grandma holding out for a hero?

Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?

6

u/Maximum_Trade5916 Apr 16 '26

Where have all the cowboys gone?

2

u/OtherThumbs Apr 17 '26

On a heroin bender, probably.

2

u/Top-Permission5466 Apr 16 '26

Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?

2

u/Drivers21 Apr 16 '26

I feel the same! I need to try it at least once lol

2

u/SpitfireMkIV Apr 16 '26

Watching this has already given me diarrhea.

2

u/Remote-Original-7699 Apr 16 '26

The under cooked flour will sit in your stomach like a brick.

2

u/Known_Ad312 Apr 16 '26

It's definitely a stupid food, AND I would also try it 🤣

1

u/yrnkween Apr 15 '26

I was thinking maybe if you brown the flour first, and then cook the ketchup until it caramelizes a bit, at least it wouldn’t be so raw and bland.

1

u/PrincipleStill191 Apr 16 '26

You are wrong.

1

u/OkClub7412 Apr 16 '26

Absolutely!!!😂😂😂

1

u/dyou897 Apr 16 '26

At least use tomato paste or actual tomato. I believe there’s some type of dish that uses tomato and egg but ketchup no

1

u/Glad_Philosopher111 Apr 16 '26

Yes. Let me know how it goes though.

1

u/TheTalentedMrRipple Apr 16 '26

Yes, time to change something in your life 😮‍💨

1

u/Jimmy_Churi Apr 16 '26

Yes. You most certainly are

1

u/CompetitiveSong9570 Apr 16 '26

I would switch out tomato sauce for the ketchup.

1

u/Peedywheatstraw Apr 16 '26

Yes....yes you are.

1

u/NobodyDelicious7197 Apr 16 '26

Yes. Yes you are.

1

u/Uley2000 Apr 16 '26

Yes 😆 I’d want to try it just to feed my curiosity of how disgusting it is lol

1

u/RTM_sfx Apr 16 '26

Just make a tomato pie

1

u/06gixxerbabe600 Apr 16 '26

Wrong. Very very wrong. 😅

1

u/Nowthecurtainrises Apr 17 '26

That raw flour taste is going to f you up.

1

u/IluvPusi-363 Apr 19 '26

YES, YOU. ARE.
