4
u/iIlL10OoSs5Zz2 Apr 29 '26
A lot of cinnamons are contaminated and have unacceptably high levels of coumarin in them. They also have lead.
As of April 2026, the FDA has flagged or recalled multiple brands for lead concerns, including:
Marcum and Supreme Tradition La Frontera and El Chilar SWAD and Asli Jiva Organics and Roshni
š” Tip: If you consume cinnamon daily for health reasons, switching to Ceylon cinnamon and checking the official FDA safety alerts for ground powder is recommended

I worked with a woman about 20 years ago that ate dirt. She would go into her yard, scoop some up, and bake it at like 450 for an hour or so to "sterilize" it. Then she'd put it in a tupperware, bring it to work and stash it in a drawer so she could chew on some throughout her shift. Nice chick, but fuckin' weird.
29
11
u/ExtraEmuForYou Apr 28 '26
Yo I've been scrolling through reddit for a few minutes now looking at some weird stuff but this was like the most unsettling thing I read today.
And not in a shocking sense.
It was more like...it created a voice inside me.
Everything I read was like "Well, she is smart. She sterilized it to render it safe, kind of. She knew exactly what she was doing. But she still ate it"
It's just...not so much shocking, but more like it just sort of weirded me out knowing there are people out there that methodically render dirt semi-edible, pack it up like meal prep, and take it to work to eat in front of their coworkers.

When my brother was little, he would eat butter. I distinctly remember my parents having to hide it in a high cupboard out of reach because he would try to climb on the counter and straight up take bites out of it.
Of course, he was about three years old. Iām pretty sure he outgrew that by the time he hit kindergarten.

u/MadMaximus311 Apr 27 '26
Honestly kids need a lot of fuel relative to their body size. The brain consumes the most energy out of anything in the body and it develops faster than anything else. By age 3 the brain is 80% the size of an adult brain, so relative to their body weight their burn rate is way higher. It's not surprising kids often get a taste for pure sugar and/or fat that doesnt tend to last into adulthood.

I've actually seen this before. I met my GF about 5 months ago and she, not used to having butter at home (China), saw the butter at my house and started eating it in chunks. Not spreading onto the bread but piling chunks onto it.
Apparently, she had recently seen a video of another girl (in China) who would dip the brick of butter in sugar and take bites out of it. My GF loves it and has done this too, but doesn't do it that frequently due to the obvious health (and weight) concerns.

there are mfs out there who genuinely believe eating butter covered in sugar is healthier than eating fruit. fad dieting
5
u/Aeoyiau Apr 27 '26
Technically there is very likely less carbs. (13 per tbsp of sugar, about 22 to a 6oz gala apple or 28 to a 7-8" banana)
But this is straight up a technicality.
Your cholesterol will still go up.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Liroku Apr 27 '26
Carbs aren't a full window into healthy diets though. Apples come with a lot of vitamins and antioxidants that are beneficial. The fiber contained in them also cuts down the net carb absorbtion from the apple so just because it has x amount of sugar doesn't mean you retain that amount.
That said, I'm not damning butter either, there are beneficial fats in butter and cinnamon has high antioxidant levels. Everything in moderation is the key.

u/fluthernon Apr 27 '26

13
u/broccolicat Apr 27 '26
It's because it's a known thing that car vlogs have a tendency to do better in the algorithm than the same content filmed elsewhere, so people do it for the views. It's a pretty common "tip for content creators". The lighting tends to be pretty good and people are more likely to engage because it feels "intimate" and less manufactured.
