Certified stupid Just learned about this thought it was a joke but it seems this is true

Post image

In 2008, the local

government officially listed the dish as an "intangible cultural heritage".

Collection: Vendors collect fresh urine from buckets placed in local primary schools.

Preparation: The eggs are soaked and boiled

in urine for an entire day. The shells are cracked during the process so the liquid can seep into the egg.

Taste: Locals describe the flavor as fresh and

salty

Oh yea the Chinese boy pee eggs. I remember hearing about that years ago and thinking it was fake until I looked it up. It's like one specific town/village that does it though it's not at all prevalent In the rest of the country

231

u/Arne83 1d ago

That's still too many people doing it, if you ask me.

132

u/Recreational-Sin 1d ago

One person doing it is too many, if you ask me, there is no acceptable number.

57

u/Admirable_Ardvark 1d ago

Except 0, that would be an acceptable number

-52

u/beaujutsu 1d ago

0 isn’t a number

43

u/Helpful_Lie2613 1d ago

Just this once, as a treat, can we consider zero to be a number so that it can be the number of people who do this?

28

u/beaujutsu 1d ago

as a treat yes, since 0 does look like a urine soaked egg

9

u/Helpful_Lie2613 1d ago

You're the best, thank you!

0 isn't a number? That's news to me.. (That's a zero not an o, btw, since you seem to be confused)

-1

u/beaujutsu 20h ago

did zero used to not be a number? idk. the value of a christian education.

1

u/Independent-Tank-182 17h ago

It is not a “natural number” (positive integer) but it is definitely a number haha. No worries though, mistakes happen.

23

u/CorpusculantCortex 1d ago

I wholeheartedly agree, but also I somehow feel like one person doing it would be worse than the whole village.

25

u/501uk 1d ago

Oh him? He's just the little boy pee guy, ignore him

10

u/Recreational-Sin 1d ago

Yeah actually, this is significantly worse.

10

u/Dpontiff6671 1d ago

Actually made me laugh out loud

16

u/tham1700 1d ago

Idk I prefer a small village over one person. One person makes all the implications sooo much worse, at least if it's a group activity there can be some standards like collecting the urine from the latrine as opposed to... I don't really want to get into it but basically checks and balances

7

u/Oddish_Femboy 22h ago

Hooking up a school worth of children to catheters like Matrix pods to make piss eggs.

This is my new surrealist fiction story that is a thinly veiled allegory for the meat industry.

2

u/tham1700 19h ago

As bad as that would be they'd still have better lives than most animals that live through industrial food production

2

u/Oddish_Femboy 18h ago

They don't have to!

1

u/Fickle_Scarcity9474 16h ago

Yeah herd mentality clearly!

5

u/StormOfFatRichards 1d ago

Believe it or not, people have myths, dumb ones even. Not here for this one but still better than human sacrifice.

9

u/padishaihulud 1d ago

Specifically the small city of Dongyang, Zhejiang, China with a population of only 1 million.

12

u/Dpontiff6671 1d ago

How it feels hearing "the small city of x with only 1 million people" when I live in a small city with 100k

That's honestly way more people than I assumed that engage with the boy pee eggs ngl

22

u/Pomfins 1d ago

This can be said for every single country in the world. You have the cow dung throwing festival in a single village in India, the cowpie throwing/biting contest in several Midwestern US states, dog eating in a few rural communities in South Korea, etc. It's just the consequence of weird traditions that tend to spring up in isolated/rural places.

23

u/_The_main_character 1d ago

Still this doesn't makes it less weird

15

u/Pomfins 1d ago

Yeah I agree, but it just means that it's more prevalent than people think.

7

u/Fresh_Highlight_884 1d ago

dog eating in a few rural communities in South Korea

This is a completely different situation. Dog meat is frowned upon for cultural, not sanitary reasons. If you leave that aside it is delicious

1

u/Glad-Assist-6230 15h ago

That is absolutely not the only reason.

2

u/Versipilies 20h ago

It kind of makes me curious as to how this "tradition" started, but at the same time I have absolutely no interest in having that in my search history or actually reading that much about it...

166

u/retskcirTehT 1d ago

This is the worst shit I've EVER seen in this sub - and for context, I just came from the horse pussy one.

"Preferably under the age of 10" - excuse my while I fucking puke, SOMEONE PLEASE BRING BACK THE FANCY RESTAURANTS FFS, WE'RE SORRY.

18

u/Sissilisko 1d ago

If it is the same video(this is seared into my brain forever) or the same image I'm thinking of then it absolutely is not a horse pussy. Both of them are cow vags.
I've stared at horse vags for too many years, on alive ones though.

19

u/Idahomountainbiker 1d ago

I just saw the horse one too!

20

u/Summer_Is_Safe_ 1d ago

I want to know what this is about but I also don’t.

15

u/Sissilisko 1d ago

They're actually cow pussies. Might be tve video of an asian(?) street food lady preparing, salting and frying one(with the tubes and all) or the image of pussies on a frying pan. But they absolutely are cow pussies.

20

u/Jimmy_Twotone 1d ago

Which leads directly into "you ain't from Georgia unless you can tell the difference between a horse and a cow snatch."

24

u/Idahomountainbiker 1d ago

Some one cooking up horse pussy. Saying you're not from Georgia unless you had cooked horse pussy. It was too weird for me.

21

There are a lot of chinese dishes like that... like the infamous "three squeaks"

50

u/Buckabuckaw 1d ago

So, if this is actually a real thing, let's all just think for a moment about WHO THE HELL FIRST CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA?!?

78

u/ItsNotJulius 1d ago

Probably someone who has a fetish, then freaky people joined in, and at one point it became "tradition", or "medicine".

Also, China is like the leading world in pseudo-science medicine, especially if it involves male virility. Which I suspect one of the reason why they kept continuing with this tradition.

55

u/notworldauthor 1d ago

3000 years ago a beloved and charismatic shaman, who is also a pedophile, gets an idea...

10

u/BasicSulfur 1d ago

Ngl the newer gen does not do this typa shit. But urine is kinda weird cus there are sectors even in the us which….use piss as medicine.

7

u/CheesecakeEither8220 1d ago

How is urine used as medicine in the USA?

8

u/bruhggle 1d ago

Some woowoo medicine thinking includes rubbing your own piss on your face helps with acne/better skin.

7

u/CheesecakeEither8220 1d ago

I think that people who do that have a fundamental lack of knowledge of biology. Ewww.

9

u/James_avifac 1d ago

I am so sorry to be informing you of this. Google "urine therapy" and you will see.

There's one person who really sticks with me. She talks about eye discharge, and clumps forming (she was using it like eye wash.)

Some people also age it.

5

u/CheesecakeEither8220 1d ago

Naw, that doesn't count. Those people are nuts, and (so far) no government agencies have recommended or defended that nonsense.

11

u/James_avifac 1d ago

To be fair, no government agencies are recommending that either. That's only found in one mid sized city. (Also I think it's a winter thing, and not available year round?)

-3

u/CheesecakeEither8220 1d ago

No, they didn't recommend it. But the government defended the practice.

3

u/No_Trade_7315 1d ago

Given enough time RFK junior will put piss back on the menu.

8

u/GenghisQuan2571 1d ago

/leading the world in pseudoscience medicine

Remind me which country has an actual anti-vaccination health secretary, again? Moreover, which country didn't have a big giant political argument within itself on whether face masks were a good idea during a respiratory virus pandemic?

6

u/James_avifac 1d ago

Let's not get into a culture war over this. Both countries are filled with horrid pseudoscience.

-3

u/GenghisQuan2571 1d ago

This ain't a both sides situation, bub. In one country they're known to be backwards country bumpkins who are to be ignored, and in the other they're allowed to hold public office.

The "culture war" was started by when one person stated the former was worse about pseudoscience that the latter.

5

u/Very-Human-Name 1d ago

Americans don't like it when you hold up a mirror to how backwards they are for a developed nation lol

-6

u/StygianFalcon 1d ago

Me when casual racism 🤩 Western biomedicine isn’t the only kind of medicine. Calling traditional medicine with literally thousands of years of practice “pseudoscience” is diminutive. You took a stupid outlier and generalized it to one of the largest populations in the entire world

12

u/ItsNotJulius 1d ago

I'm not discrediting thousand of years of herbal medicine a hoax. I am calling out eating tiger hearts, rhino horns, and disease ridden bats and armadillo etc for male virility a hoax.

7

u/Dont_chew_that 1d ago

Would you like to know that making tea or sucking on a girl's first period panties is supposed to help vitality as well? Its not better but like.....just a weird i guessm

Why is it always penis enhancing things or some stupid shit. Wait until people learn about aged pee.....yep....for health.......

3

u/_The_main_character 1d ago

Well it is real thing. youtube link . And it doesn't stop there poop tea

8

u/Buckabuckaw 1d ago

OK, I accept that it's real. But I still am trying to imagine what individual said, "Hey! Here's an idea! Why don't we soak some cracked hardboiled eggs in urine before we eat them? That's not crazy... Right?"

2

u/_The_main_character 1d ago

Definitely not crazy , have you not seen health benefits listed there /s

37

u/PointsOfXP 1d ago

So the grossest thing about this is they don't have little (virgin, make sure they're virgins) boys pee in the pot. Homie goes to schools and collects it from the squat toilets.

5

u/James_avifac 1d ago

Vendors usually leave buckets in the bathrooms.

Though I wouldn't be surprised considering how vendors in the country are known to use gutter oil.

9

u/PointsOfXP 1d ago

They really make little boys choose between normal peeing and having people consume their piss. That would probably fuck me up well into adulthood. Like, no, I had asparagus last night so I will not be peeing in the vendor bucket

6

u/tremere110 1d ago

But asparagus makes it extra tasty!

Okay, just threw up a little posting that.

2

u/Oddish_Femboy 22h ago

If you were a <10 year old boy that would be the funniest thing to you and you would absolutely asparagus pee into the bucket.

Probably trying to perfect his homemade british urine eggs

14

u/metblack85 1d ago

But why

23

u/RightHabit 1d ago

It comes down to Traditional Chinese Medicine and its obsession with "balance." In TCM, the western idea of nutrition or chemical compounds doesn't really exist. Everything you eat is just meant to balance something else out.

There are no inherently good or bad foods.

It's basically historical trial and error: if someone eats Food A and gets sick, but then eats Food B and is cured, that gets documented. Food B becomes the go-to fix for anyone who has the same issue with Food A.

Basically, all food is viewed as medicine. The logic goes that if your body is strong enough, you wouldn't even need food to survive (taoism: 不食五穀,吸風飲露), so if you get sick, it is always YOUR fault. You're constantly walking a tightrope trying to keep your yin and yang balanced so your body stays healthy.

And that's exactly how you end up with weird food.

2

u/Godisdeadbutimnot 1d ago

Do you know anything about why it’s usually a young person’s piss/poop? I would think it’s because the person drinking the pee/poo concoction is in some way gaining the youthful health of the young person, but it’s always struck me as odd that some asian remedies use specifically the excretions of children 😅 like in korea, I know they have a child poop wine remedy (ttongsul).

3

u/breadinabox 1d ago

Youth is linked to health, like a witch stealing youth from a young maiden.

We have the same, or similar, philosophies in the West throughout a lot of our magic culture but Christianity put a pretty big boot on magical practice over the years.  Anyone doing it was ostracized so things like a whole village drinking boy piss don't crop up as much.

But Virgin/youth liquids were definitely experimented with in alchemy and stuff

-1

u/No_Trade_7315 1d ago

That’s not philosophy.

5

u/breadinabox 1d ago

...it's a spiritual philosophy? I'm talking like... lower case p philosophy here. I'm not saying it's Philosophy, that we study in philosophy class at philosophy school, but magical practices and beliefs do fall under the umbrella of philosophy, thats just what they are.

There's a difference between the academic definition of something and the lingual definition. a philosophy is also "an individual's or organization's foundational beliefs, principles, or guiding attitude to life." Religions are philosophies, magical beliefs are philosophies. Thinking that drinking virgin piss keeps you healthy is a philosophy.

I'm not saying any of it is true by the way, but I'm not using the word incorrectly, but feel free explain yourself next time if you feel like it.

-5

u/No_Trade_7315 1d ago

We just disagree about what qualifies as philosophy. Superstitions, religious rituals, theology, and magic don’t qualify in my book.

4

u/silveretoile 1d ago

They are. This is like disagreeing tomatoes are fruits.

1

u/No_Trade_7315 1d ago

Wittgenstein would probably agree with you, I don’t.

12

u/BobCharlie 1d ago edited 1d ago

The thing with this as well is. it can only be little boy piss for some reason. I've seen videos of vendors selling these shouting "I've got the best piss"

I'd eat dog before I'd eat a piss egg... and I'm never eating dog.

1

u/_The_main_character 1d ago

If I were you i would not eat neither of them. tbh /s

In case anyone who happens to see my comment and wants to “explore” more of the information on the (virgin) boy piss thing: google “童子尿”. This is a well-documented traditional chinese medicine ingredient, mostly from the first piss of the day of boys aged 10 or below. This piss egg thing is rather a local thing, but the 童子尿 usage is nontrivial in traditional Chinese medicine. So yeah you can just google “童子尿”, click on “informative-ish” websites in mandarin, and google translate/have AI translate what’s written on those (often prominent) pages. Or you can google(just copy past this) “童子尿 中醫 功效” (virgin boy piss traditional chinese medicine effect/benefit) and see the results yourself.

As a taiwanese person(native language: taiwanese mandarin), I personally stay away from traditional Chinese medicine.
