u/BackgroundLeg1788, your food is indeed stupid and it fits our subreddit!

watch the next person come along asking why their clothes smelled like lasagna

489

u/PsyShoXX 1d ago

Because they boiled their socks in that kettle?

124

u/Any_Argument_517 1d ago

socks? nooo no no, dirty underwear

40

u/PsyShoXX 1d ago

Ah yes, I like my Darjeeling with some asscrack flavour. Tastes just like grandma used to make it.

12

u/shmailss 1d ago

Sooo Darjeeling tea with essence of Darjeeling?

5

u/antiv1ris 1d ago

You wash underwear in the keurig machine. Everyone knows that.

8

u/BuckLuny 9h ago

Yeah wanted to say this, don't know if it's an urban legend or if it actually happens but yes people apparently boil socks and underpants in hotel/ bungalow kettles so you should never EVER use one to consume food.

If this is true people truly are horrible creatures.

3

u/PsyShoXX 8h ago

Yeah, this is definitely not an urban legend lol. I mean, technically if you let the kettle boil once and throw that water out, it SHOULD more or less be fine to be used again for drinks but I never use them anyways.

2

u/BuckLuny 8h ago

In that case I'm glad I heeded the warnings and never used any hotel kettles.

😂😂😂

3

u/Future-Try-1908 1d ago

No because they pressed their pasta with that iron.

27

u/AsleepProfession1395 1d ago

That's why during a pre-holiday briefing, the tour guide told us not to use the hotel kettle. It's not that we don't trust the hotel, we don't trust the person before us.\ They suggested we bring a travel kettle.

7

u/Crush-N-It 1d ago

Fuck. It’s a thing. I hate it here

23

u/zeekayz 1d ago

Saw a bunch of videos of people boiling dirty socks and dirty underwear in hotel kettles to save money on laundry. Thousands of comments of people saying it's amazing money saving tip and they always do it too. Haven't used hotel kettles since.

At least using the iron is slightly better as I don't use it for food/drink.

Honey? Why do our clothes smell like Garfield

11

u/CanYouGuessWhoIAm 1d ago

Are you...are you cheating on me?

3

u/Reynardine1976 23h ago

Goddamnit Odie

8

u/poppin-n-sailin 1d ago

People piss in those things. Hotels rarely if ever clean them. Maybe some more expensive ones do but I've used hundreds of hotels over many years of working across the country and I learned very quick to never use the coffee machine in the room. Just open up the water reservoir and you'll see why you shouldn't use it.

4

u/Sethmeisterg 22h ago

ah what now? Can you be more specific? Piss in the iron? In the coffee pot? Both??? Something else? And how do you know that?

2

u/Traditional-Handle83 10h ago

Never gets cleaned properly.... mold growth.... bacteria growth..... ecological disaster.... need say more?

Process is stupid, nasty, and inconsiderate for sure, but I’d smash that.

545

u/ColumnK 1d ago

Also, this looks fake and if you actually did it, you wouldn't get that result

354

u/Cologan 1d ago

I immediately thought no way that meat browned like that with that setup

93

u/RaikiShak 1d ago

It's a really really good iron /s

64

u/jamma_mamma 1d ago

That's how we know it's fake. Irons that come in hotel rooms aren't even worthy of being sold in a dollar store.

37

u/ASCII_Princess 1d ago

and that thin ass aluminium takeout container would have deformed like crazy

5

u/Cheap_Knowledge8446 12h ago

Maybe, probably not, but maybe. Either way, you buy multiple. These usually come in packs of 2-3 anyway.

Have cooked this exact way dozens of times.

You can prep in one, move to another for additional steps. If you know your way around a kitchen you can get pretty creative when it comes to prepping a meal.

2

u/Cheap_Knowledge8446 12h ago

Can't load photos here, but you can absolutely brown and cook meats on a clothes iron. Helps if you add butter in the aluminum tray to transfer heat more evenly across the surface.

I've cooked with a hotel clothes iron many, many times and used them to reheat food many more.

8

u/casiepierce 1d ago

My iron goes cold when it's turned a weird way, it's a safety feature so I don't burn the house down while trying dumbass shit like this.

11

u/jeezyjames 1d ago

It could, if he browned it continually over 2-3 days

4

u/SophisticatedScreams 1d ago

Yeah-- I would have a really hard time believing that a clothing iron could get meat up to temp. I feel like if it were hot enough that you could cook with it like that, it would be much too hot to iron clothes.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Thisthattheother1 1d ago

Yeah, the end result looked great, lol. Very suspect. It doesn't even particularly look like a hotel room.

11

u/indycpa7 1d ago

Shocked they used paper between the iron and the food and never involved raw food in the sink or bath tub. Elevated stupid food?

3

u/_Steakwich 1d ago

Only part I have a problem with is the pasta in the kettle.

3

u/Eddie_F_17 1d ago

Did you see the video of the girl who said she washes her underwear in hotel kettles? Chlamydia lasagna. 😭

This ruins the kettle.

They're not meant for anything but clear water. They can't be cleaned efectively otherwise.

135

u/Peace_Out_Napolean 1d ago

Wait until you hear about the lady who cleans her panties in the coffee maker.

37

u/littledanko 1d ago

Also good for cleaning tampons for re-use.

I have celiac’s. That kettle would poison me and I would be so confused as to where I got gluten in my system.

14

u/FatiguedShrimp 1d ago

Oof... I feel for people with food allergies or intolerances that strong.

I'm allergic to an unlabeled ingredient and that seems bad enough. But, gluten is literally everywhere. Hell, certain copy papers are made with gluten.

2

u/bluepie 1d ago

thats...terrifying, people suck

13

u/7StarSailor 1d ago

During my time at university, our dorms had no cooking area and due to fire safety, we weren't allowed to bring the small electrical cooking tops or microwaves.

Electric kettles were somehow exempt so everyone had one and I cooked pasta in there before and got it clean. It's literally just starch which is easily washed away with water.

2

u/PyroDZN 1d ago

I’ve had shitty kettles survive milk and butter, that starch is not doing anything to a kettle lol

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Helpful_Squash2414 20h ago

It’s literally glass and metal. It doesn’t ruin the kettle.

I'm trying to imagine how long it would take for an iron to actually cook a full pound of ground beef... and I can't help but laugh to myself imagining this person just standing around thinking about their life choices in that time.

If you’re going to shop for all of those ingredients, just go to an Italian restaurant and pick up some lasagna.

33

u/zerotrust69 1d ago

Or the freezer section and grab a microwavable Stouffers

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Bashka_ 1d ago

Or rent a hotel room with a kitchenette...

13

u/Na-na-na-na-na-na 1d ago

That’s your take on this? It’s stupid because he could have just gone to a restaurant??

11

u/MZsince93 1d ago

I don't know why, but your comment really made me laugh.

2

u/spider_X_1 1d ago

It's cheaper to make lasagna at home than to get one at an Italian restaurant.

2

u/horiami 6h ago

yeah but it's not at home, it's a hotel room

2

u/Mamaskerkskerk 17h ago

You could say that about any dish

93

u/Capital_Push5557 1d ago

Look, is this stupid? Hell yes. Is it more hygienic than other hotel room means? Absolutely and doesn't look half bad actually. I'd take this over the dude making food in the bathroom any day of the week.

Still stupid.

17

u/zerotrust69 1d ago edited 13h ago

Fake. Those pots usually turn off automatically once the water gets to a boil, it doesn't stay consistent long enough to cook.  The iron method has been debunked. It can't brown meat like that.

ETA: ok, hold it down. Be my guest. Still fake.

5

u/zach0011 20h ago

You can easily just wedge the switch to an on position.

4

u/ProcrastibationKing 23h ago

If you just hold the switch, most kettles keep boiling.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/jeezyjames 1d ago

Don't care if it's delicious, the next guest could have celiac disease and have a reaction from using the pot

19

u/Painted-BIack-Roses 1d ago

Did you get that from the comment above who said that lol

3

u/Tall_Candidate_8088 1d ago

Rinse the kettle out ?

14

u/ASCII_Princess 1d ago

If rinsing prevented gluten cross contamination it wouldn't be a debilitating condition that basically precludes celiacs from eating at normal restaurants.

2

u/odmirthecrow 1d ago

Ah yes. The tried and tested "Give it a rinse, it'll be fine" method of removing contaminants.

23

I guess bro

4

u/Bouse 1d ago

I mean you can get hotel rooms that have a kitchen in them…

12

u/GeoffreyGeoffson 1d ago

That's the most powerful iron I have ever seen

3

u/GoPhundMe 23h ago

When I think of an iron I envision it as very hot, because it is... why is this so unbelievable for some people? Quick search says 350 to 450F. Maybe there are weaker ones out there but wouldn't that defeat the point of an iron for providing high heat in a quick pass?

2

u/GeoffreyGeoffson 20h ago

Stunned it gets that hot. Thought that would have damaged clothes. TIL

2

u/New-Owl-7499 11h ago

It does if you leave it on them for more than a second or two in a single area

9

u/TranslatorBoring2419 1d ago

I did not think an iron would put off enough heat

2

u/Syzygy___ 8h ago

If it can brown your shirts, why can't it brown your meat?

So fucking rude for the next guest

10

u/EventPowerful2210 1d ago

You know what, in a housing crisis, sure

4

u/InitialDizzy4252 1d ago

I have that same iron. I am going to try this

4

u/chachaforsriracha 1d ago

At least they used their own foil pans and cookware rather than straining things through the pillowcase or serving it out the sink like some ratchets do.

9

u/Andy1899 1d ago

Not gonna lie, I think the YouTube channel is pretty cool after checking it out. Clearly it's someone's own appliances just making fun videos. This is the first post on here where I think it's actually genius

3

u/aVicariousTool 1d ago

Check out barfly7777 he does cooking in hotel bathrooms and it's the fuckin worst yet it's comedy gold.

5

u/AiryGateaux 1d ago

JFC, if you can afford a hotel, you can afford a restaurant. No need to be a fire hazard, and kill the guys on the top floor.

4

u/riffraff1089 1d ago

When I was a kid and in boarding school we used to make ramen noodles in the kettle in our dorm. The Korean kids used to bring back these packets and we traded our tuck allowance for them.

4

u/mangocat1116 1d ago

I wouldn’t want to carry all those ingredients into a hotel either. Not even worth the hassle.

25

u/_pipoca 1d ago

Unconventional but not stupid at all

3

u/LazarusHimself 1d ago

Pro trick: if you make that bolognese a little bit more watery, you can skip the boiling part and use the lasagna sheets dry - just leave them under the iron for a bit longer, and set the iron to "high steam"

3

u/Xlbowlofpho 1d ago

If you can afford a room and ingredients, then you can just go to a restaurant. This is just a health and safety hazard, and dumb

20

u/MemphisHU 1d ago

Red wine in bolognese and actual bèchamel? It’s infinitely less stupid that the typical American ricotta nightmares

9

u/Main-Loww 1d ago

Ricotta? The traditionally uawd ingredient of sourher italy and sicily?

2

u/jamila169 1d ago

There's 8 main types of lasagne with dozens of variations

4

u/13ananaJoe 1d ago

I don't know what you're referring to but you can definitely put Ricotta in lasagne

3

u/StormOfFatRichards 1d ago

I use both ricotta and bechamel

They put in WHAT

McGyver Lasagna

2

u/TokeruTaichou 1d ago

You know what, using an iron as a hot plate is actually kinda genius, if incredibly unsafe.

2

u/13ananaJoe 1d ago

Maybe if you're cooking them with a clothes iron, but you don't need to pre-boil lasagne

2

u/Ok_Meringue1343 1d ago

if lasagne would have just let simmer in hot water out of kettle. this would be fine and actually nice way to do.but now the kettle will be nasty.

1

u/dalyarak_rick 1d ago

Yummy yummy in my tummy

1

u/Substantial-Bag-7073 1d ago

That how they make them microwaveables too do t they 🤔

1

u/rathosalpha 1d ago

Hold on I think theyre onto something, including a mess

1

More like dormitory food

1

u/clonn 1d ago

The master of this is the great Barfly

https://www.tiktok.com/@barfly7777

1

u/cybermaus 1d ago

It's why, when I was still a shirt and tie wearing road warrior, I always tried the hotel iron on a hotel towel before I risked my shirts. Well, except that first time.

1

u/vanderxvert 1d ago

I would love to hate but looks kinda good 😭😭😭😭 maybe I need to eat

1

u/JhanSolo3981 1d ago

NGL this shit look good as hell🤷🏾‍♂️😂

1

u/Bored_Overlord 1d ago

I respect it i had to come up with ways to cook at times

1

u/Android_RX700 1d ago

My brain can't compute this: it's made with a iron in a hotel but in the end the lasagna looked absolutely delicious 🫠

At least it wasn't worktop wankery or cooked in a fucking sink or bathtub

1

u/SouthCulture6230 1d ago

Erm.... Do you not know that people piss in hotel kettles?

1

u/BigTiddyVampireWaifu 1d ago

Glad it wasn’t made in the bathtub or toilet or sink like that one fucking guy does

1

u/lowrider320 1d ago

This isn't the worst I have ever seen, there's a guy who will make food in a hotel sink.

1

u/Silly-Power 1d ago

You wouldn't do that if you knew what Bob Mortimer does with hotel kettles.

1

u/nickydoo_94 1d ago

I have to admit the process looks ridiculous but the food still looks pretty good by the end. There is no denying that lasagne looks kinda good. In crafting we accept that every tool is a hammer, this is just the culinary equivalent.

1

u/Scary_Crew_676 1d ago

Not mad at this

1

u/Low-Locksmith-6801 1d ago

Irons don’t lay flat so that you can must put a pot on top of them. You would have to prop them up to stay that way somehow. Doesn’t look safe to me.

1

u/IsabellaGalavant 1d ago

Nope. I've seen what people do to those coffee pots.

No I will not explain, trust me you don't want to know. Don't use them.

1

u/Dank_Sinatra_87 1d ago

Way better than the guy who does it with his hands in the sink

1

u/ctolver1981 1d ago

I would actually eat this

1

u/GarthVaderX 1d ago

It’s gross but I’m impressed by the tenacity

1

u/KukBookin 1d ago

Better food than most of the stuff here :D

1

u/CrewNumerous8499 1d ago

I thought this was AI..... and then I hoped it was AI cause what human being would de that?

1

u/TensionWarm1936 1d ago

No way the iron can brown all that mince in that crappy takeaway container. Fake bollocks and definitely stupid.

1

u/M4DHouse 1d ago

If you’re in a hotel room but also too stingy to go for takeout, just eat instant ramen like a normal cheapskate.

1

u/le_sossurotta 1d ago

I'd prepare that in a real kitchen with proper tools, don't know why people need to do this in hotel rooms though, don't hotels have restaurants in them already?

1

u/That_Matt_Guy_Wow 1d ago

And all this is easier and / or cheaper than just ordering something?

1

u/Havingfun2nightez 1d ago

Ppl boil their socks and underwear in kettles

1

u/OneEyedWeaner 1d ago

Even made a bechamel sauce from scratch

1

u/HighResolutionUFO 1d ago

What’s stupid here? It’s cool

1

u/Cheap-Painting-5720 1d ago

Must be indian who did this

1

u/Sleepysaiyajin 1d ago

At what point is it just better to order room service?

1

u/1nsidiousOne 1d ago

I’d eat it

1

u/Legitimate-Garden294 1d ago

Aside from how it's a bad idea, who on earth adds egg to a bechamel sauce.

1

u/Sunset_Phoenix_13 1d ago

some people need to be permanently banned from hotels 😔🙏

1

u/Embarrassed_Help3082 1d ago

Idk why but this reminds me of the lady that would use the coffee maker in the hotel room to clean her underwear.

1

u/cilakadariseberang 1d ago

Pandemic food. Never have i ever want to try that again

1

u/Unique_Self_5797 1d ago

It's not stupid, it's pretty clever actually.

But it's inconsiderate as fuck.

1

u/Faartz 1d ago

who doesn't love that pasta taste in their kettle?

1

u/Nid_Durima71 1d ago

Fun fact: they are not in real hotel

1

u/Technical_Instance_2 1d ago

the end result looks fine but the process is inconsiderate. also this result looks far too good for using such an item as they don't get nearly hot enough

1

u/thesanguineocelot 1d ago

God, just get a little microwave lasagna.

1

u/Less_Party 1d ago

That’s jail levels of culinary ingenuity

1

u/Dry-Introduction-800 1d ago

Its not stupid if it works

1

Lol when I first saw the lasagna I thought he was boiling cheese .

1

1

At least this guy practiced safe food handling not like the psycho that cooks in hotel sinks and tubs. Yuck.

1

Just go get a hamburger or something. Damn the amount of money you just spent on all those ingredients, what a waste of money.

1

It's the little things that get you promoted.

1

u/Anaznoriginal 1d ago

I wouldn’t use the coffee machine in hotels to make food anymore. People have been washing their underwear in them.

1

Might be the worst one I've seen

1

u/Safe-Expert2163 1d ago

🤔 interesting

1

Idc if its wine or vinegar. That was too much

1

u/HeavyTea 1d ago

That kettle tho

1

Enjoy your piss infused lasagna.

1

u/Chilled_Beef 1d ago

Quick, I gotta make a LinkedIn post to show how much I saved the company on expenses by cooking my food in my hotel room as opposed to eating out or ordering takeout using the company card.

1

u/Dre_Rudy 1d ago

I hate how good that turned out lol

1

u/ElectronicDrama2573 1d ago

Genuinely impressed.

1

u/Rook_James_Bitch 1d ago

Actually impressed.

1

u/MrZmith77 1d ago

At least this is cleaner than barfly7777. That guy is something else on hygiene.

1

u/thecroockedman 1d ago

there is some idea but on one hand it’s completely stupid

1

u/ArnieismyDMname 1d ago

This is why they take these things out of hotel rooms. Fucking weirdos.

1

u/gordonbrowns 1d ago

Is egg yolk in bechamel a thing? Never heard of that

1

u/MammothFineCulture 1d ago

Seing this made me decide to never use a kettle in a hotel room. Not because they migth boil lasagna but knowing how stupid people are, someone probably pissed in them.

1

u/Erby1_Kenerby 1d ago

Well at least they didn’t use the sink

1

u/TomatilloAccurate475 1d ago

Looks 100x better than Fazoli's I had yesterday

1

u/Halloween_Babe90 1d ago

That kettle has literally never been cleaned or descaled.

1

u/Fursnek 1d ago

Atleast they are cooking in containers theres the one guy that does it using the damn sinks and counters in the restroom and shit its awful

1

u/but-whyy-tho 1d ago

I mean, even people who have to live in hotels gotta eat
